Democrat Alvin Brown is emerging as a hot commodity, despite near-unanimity among observers and consultants that Jacksonville' next mayor will be a Republican.

Brown is the only Democrat in the race who's been competitive at raising money, tapping connections from his days in the Clinton administration to get out-of-town checks. His path cleared somewhat when City Councilwoman Glorious Johnson, another Democrat, dropped out of the race last month.

The field for the March election will be set this week when qualifying ends Friday. Brown emphatically proclaims he's in the race and denies receiving overtures from other campaigns, but Republican Audrey Moran said some of her supporters have been working behind the scenes to get Brown on her team.

Any chance of getting Alvin to join us for a conversation the same way that Jim and Audrey have?

I don't know anything more about him other than that Bill Clinton campaigned for him - which doesn't mean anything to me one way or the other.
