I read this same article in the New York Post today.  I picked up a copy at the Publix in Riverside and noticed the story when I was having a cocktail at Avondale's Blue Fish.
It seems strange that the dance troupe's executive director did not make better arrangements for their trip.  It's one thing if a guy fails to accurately time a trip across Jacksonville and gets caught in traffic.  It sounds like they attempted to time their trip according to MapQuest and barely accounted for any food, toilet or fueling breaks.  Even if they did manage to get to BET on time, they are crazy for expecting to perform their best act right after a long road trip.  Besides, what about make up and all that other prep stuff?
Next time, I predict that they will get a hotel room the night before their performance and then take the train into town to they could get to BET at least two hours before showtime.

So if I'm getting what I'm hearing people here say, you can't drive into NYC and just drop people in front of a building?  That's not normal?  It happens all the time here and most other cities and towns in the United States.  It's pretty much common sense you can drive and drop someone off in front of a building in a typical city in the United States - it's also a time saver.  Everyone in the country knows the best way to save time is to drive!  What are they going to do, take the slow bus that's usually late like our JTA?  Doesn't seem like an unreasonable assumption.

Isn't New Jersey in another state?  What's this thing called the train?  ;)

Though for this troupe in particular, I wonder why they left at the last minute from Jacksonville.  I'm guessing New Yorkers don't see people wearing camo much.  Though running in the middle of a crowded roadway is probably not the smartest thing in the world to do.

Shows how small town Jacksonville is.... I do hope they get another shot though.

MTV has a better dance show hosted by the Saved by the Bell guy..he spanish. Not sure his name, but if this story grows the kids might get called in for that competition.

Oh yeah, because what they did is a completely normal thing to do, much less in a damn tunnel dressed in camo running like hell. Yeah, big WTF is going on moment.

I have not seen pics of the crew,..were they muslim? Muslims are not allowed to wear camo fatigues? What are the laws on muslims wearing camo?

In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

This is right up there with the time that the Lite Brite pictures of the Mooninites shut down the entire city of Boston.

^^Hahaha. Classic.

This news story was brought to us by poor decision making all the way around - on the troupe's part for leaving late and running through the tunnel in highly accessorized camo and also on the part of the excessive response from the Terror Squad.  Lessons learned, right? Probably not.

Does the Lincoln Tunnel have a sidewalk?

all tunnels have emergency walks...but otherwise, no...after all, at one time it was signed as Interstate 495!

I don't care if they were wearing tuxedos and running to Sardi's to catch a late supper. You can't get out of your car in a tunnel!

sez who?

Thats about the most amazing claim ive heard in a while.

You can't just jump out of your car like that. Not in a tunnel.  Not on a bridge. It's terribly dangerous to everyone around. Who doesn't know that?

As it has been said, "there is no bad publicity". These kids will get another shot and maybe some plane tickets out of the rebooking. Just remember: No camo at JAX-JFK-AirTrain-A Train-Columbus Circle and walk back the two blocks...
