Is this area of Springfield still the slums or has it been cleaned up? Its never mentioned on here.

They are south of the NS railroad tracks so they are in what was once known as Sugar Hill, which was on the other side of Hogans Creek from Springfield. Cooly, its still an area of high crime.  It could have a bright future if passenger rail returns to the S-Line corridor.  There would be some great redevelopment opportunities since that location would also serve Shands Jacksonville and Springfield (west of Main Street).

Those places are right behind Shands? Is that not Springfield? I never saw hogans creek over there...I guess I never noticed any water.

Well its south of 12th Street, which I thought was the limit of springfield.

Most of Shands is located in Sugar Hill.  Springfield is below the railroad tracks just east of Jefferson Street.  Hogans Creek was the dividing line between the two neighborhoods.  Over the years, Shands gobbled up Sugar Hill and Interstate 95 took out the rest.  Today, a good portion of the creek, north of 8th Street, lies underneath Shands' parking lots.

Although the actual official historic district boundaries are gerrymandered, its roughly....



North - Norfolk Southern railroad tracks

East - Norfolk Southern railroad tracks

South - Hogans Creek/Confederate Park/1st Street

West - Hogans Creek

Cmon Lake they both seen to be right on the border...closer to Springfield than Durkeville. Since the Sugarhill area is kinda dead.

You are correct Cooly, they are on the border of Springfield. Interestingly enough (and not sure if this was planned or not) but one is cut off by the creek, and one is cut off by the hospital, in fact a road that used to to connect it to Blvd is closed off and fenced now. So while they both border Springfield there are clear delineations that cut them off from Springfield but leave them pretty open to the westside.

True, they're close, but that doesn't mean they're included in the historic district. They could be across the street or a hundred miles away, either way...neither of the locations you asked about are in historic Springfield.
