Springfield/Downtown on a week night...

A friend has seen the light and is moving to Springfield from San Diego next month. He's in town this week to finalize some stuff. He wants to hang out a bit while he's here on a weeknight evening. Is there a night when Fusion is popular? Or Pearl? He's gay but very straight-friendly. I'm not sure the what, where, when of Springfield or downtown bars. A big crowd is not important, just a good vibe and some people watching. I need an update. Anyone know? Thanks for any advice!
