A longtime Jacksonville Sheriff's Office employee faces charges that she fraudulently used food stamps to buy groceries for herself and a co-worker.

Tiffany Cole Johnson, 38, of the 700 block of Sunken Meadow Lane was arrested Friday at the headquarters of the agency that had employed her since 1996.

An arrest report stated that she was employed as a communications officer at the sheriff's office at the time of the arrest.

Johnson has never received government assistance, investigators found. Yet, on a June 12 shopping trip with co-worker Jennifer Bland, Johnson used a food stamp card to pay for her groceries and Bland's.

The receipts totaled more than $200, but the arrest report doesn't specify the exact total.

Bland, also a communications officer, alerted the sheriff's office about the food stamp use on Sept. 23. Investigators say that Johnson admitted to the crime after her arrest.
