The Daily Beast has released their annual rankings of the smartest to dumbest 55 cities in the United States. The good news? Jacksonville is ranked the highest in the State of Florida ahead of Miami, Tampa-St. Pete, and Orlando. Great news, right? Well, not so much...

The bad news. Jacksonville is ranked #44 out of 55 cities. Miami is #47; Tampa-St. Pete is #49; and, Orlando is #50.

The further south of Florida you go, the dumber it gets. I don't know if the sun and heat fried all of their brains, or if they just simply lose their witts do to isolation or generations of people living there and rarely going north.

I lived in Homestead for only 6 months, that was all my sanity could take. Miami - Dade county is nothing more than a banana republic. The police were quick to harass me, but when I needed their help, they just laughted at me and told me that, I was in homestead now.

Coming to Jacksonville 8 years ago was a relief, compared to Miami this place is much better. It seemed to be a little bit like home.

But then I looked closer and realized that most the tall buildings were empty and/or fallind down slowly.

And the fact that pedestrian rights are non existing quickly changed my mind and I just theorized that Florida as a whole is screwed up stupid. But that's why I'm here to do my part in bettering Jacksonville.

The city really grew on me. Learning the history reminds of back home. So I really want Jacksonville to succeed. And if you love Florida and you have a brain in your head, I do not wish to offend you. I just want Jacksonville to come out of its coma.

Great Observation! I personally love Jacksonville, we just need to progress some more! I feel like it is home. To me cities like Miami, atl, LA, etc are just not reality. Its like most of the citzens live in La-La land.

I'm guessing if I take my 4 degrees and leave town, then Jacksonville will fall a couple of more spots in the rankings.

I too love Jacksonville. I love it so much I'll pick and yell at every imperfection I find until the rest of the world can agree with me... FAT CHANCE!

Sadly, the more informed one becomes about our community and our state in general, the more one discovers the WHY? behind the polls...  Florida for all it's glitz and glitter, is just ARKANSAS WITH BEACHES AND A RAT.
