Title: Rowe's IGA is Open!
Post by: Burn to Shine on July 01, 2010, 10:11:15 AM
Food Lion left and now it's Rowe's...across from Wal-Mart on Beach.  We stopped in there last night and it was hella busy.

They seem to have a very good seafood selection.

Edited the name...my bad.

I believe so. The center the lottery offices are in.

Oh, sorry maybe so.  I keep wanting to spell it that way for some reason.  Whoops!

Yes...and yes, near the lottery office.

That is great news for my neighborhood.  Our local Publix is closed for renovations and I am not sure if Winn-Dixie was prepared to pick up the slack from Publix and Food Lion refugees.

LOL in my head, it's Roew's.  :D

Which Publix is closed for renovations?  Southside behind Arby's?

Near Atlantic and University

Atlantic and Bartram.

It's interesting that instead of building new stores, Publix seems to be renovating or enlarging their existing locations.

Could be an issue of owning land vs. leasing. I know in the past that Publix has bought land adjacent to existing stores and when their lease is up, they build the new store on the land they own. I believe this was the case in Atlantic Beach and in OP.

I wish the Publix in Cobblestone Crossing would rebuild somewhere.. this is a clean enough store but kind of small and outdated , unlike alot of their other Stores.  Happy to see Rowe's Debut ..wish they would get a couple of other locations. Nice looking Store!

Publix rebuilding would mean a whole other strip center...do we really want that?  Time to just get creative I think.  Also Rowes has been on the Westside for many years ever since they took over the old Albertsons stores.  We used to buy liquor at the Rowes liquor store under age in high school located off of 103rd just before Blanding.

I cannot wait for the Publix (@Atlantic and Bartram) to reopen.  In the meantime, I guess that I should give the Rowe's a try.  I am still wary of going to Winn-Dixie.  I used to fill out those comment cards about how long their queues are at the cashiers, but have never received a reply from their folks.  I have noticed, however, that things are improving.  This bodes well for me because I dislike having to go out of my way to find a Publix.  My goal for the week?  Visit Rowe's at least once.

Need to go to Rowe's as well. I went to the one on Beach and University while it was open and they had a great selection of stuff but for whatever reason, there was an infestation of flies over by the deli/bakery and it kinda grossed me out.

As for Winn-Dixie? Love 'em. We usually either go to Town & Country or the one on Roosevelt if we're out that way and they're always really nice and clean (the T&C location actually has a fancy cheese bar now). The only soft drinks I buy are the WD brand now, I love their diet sodas and they're criminally cheap. This week it's 5 12 packs for $10 with the card. Plus you get the discount on shell gas.

Hasn't the Town and Country location been closed for years now? I worked there for a couple weeks in college...

Maybe you are thinking of the Lakewood Plaza Winn-Dixie which just added a cheese bar. That's my regular store, until they re-open the Publix on Atlantic and Bartram.

Does anyone know why the town and country winn dixie closed so soon? It opened in 1997 (I remmeber vividly because I was 15 and tried to get hired) and it closed rather quickly. It wasnt even open for 10 years. That seems to be a waste of time and money.

You're right, it's Lakewood! Duh! I don't know why I was thinking of T&C. We actually did go to that one sometimes though but it was pretty run-down for being a newer location. As for T&C closing? It was closed during the big WD meltdown, where they almost went under. That location did have some real issues though. Towards the end of the store's life there was some type of sewage issue and the entire right side of the store (where the deli and fresh foods were) had this wretched odor. The manager used to hang out over there and apologize to patrons. When I asked him about it, he said something about a big plumbing issue that was never addressed when the store opened and that in order to fix it, they'd have to dismantle the entire deli/hotfood area and dig, so I think that was a big factor in them closing as well.

If Im not mistaken was that former W/D site divided and a Dollar General Store put in part of it?  T&C Shopping Center is pretty tired..
