Jags report strong sales
Updates soon to appear
Thursday, January 28, 2010
By Vic Ketchman, jaguars.com senior editor
Early returns have the Jaguars way ahead of their ticket-sales pace of the last two years, and the team’s chief financial officer is giving the credit to the “Touchdown Jacksonville!†and “Team Teal†movements.
“I think it’s two things, but the biggest influence is probably what ‘Touchdown Jacksonville!’ and ‘Team Teal’ have done to raise awareness. The other thing is the economy. People probably have more confidence in it this January than they did last January,†Jaguars CFO Bill Prescott said on Thursday.
The numbers offer stunning encouragement.
“As of last week, we had about 1,300 season tickets sold. That’s strictly general bowl seats. I don’t know if we’ll get to 2,000 (by the end of the month), but we’ll be closing on that amount,†Prescott said.
In contrast, the Jaguars sold just over 2,200 general-bowl season tickets all of last season. They sold only 13 season tickets in Jan. of 2009 and sold no season tickets in Jan. of ’08, even though the team was coming off a playoff season.
Prescott believes the big turnout for the Indianapolis game triggered the rush of sales. He believes a lot of fans that had drifted away from attending games returned to Jacksonville Municipal Stadium that night and discovered how much they miss it.
“It’s given us a second chance to reconnect with fans who have left us for one reason or another,†Prescott said of the “Revive the Pride†movement by “Touchdown Jacksonville!†that filled the general bowl for the game against the Colts, arguably the most exciting game of the Jaguars’ season. “It raised awareness that we have to get the general bowl filled to remain viable in this market place.â€
Prescott announced plans to post ticket sales and renewal updates on jaguars.com beginning in early Feb.
“Because of the public awareness and interest, we want to be very transparent,†Prescott said. “I think it’s off to a great start. We have to maintain the momentum. The sales are the groundswell of what ‘Team Teal’ and Tony Boselli are doing.â€
Should the movements result in a sold-out general bowl for next season’s games, “what it would mean is our games will get on TV and it’s important that we maintain that. We can’t have a 60 percent renewal rate the next year,†Prescott said. “It’s a very good start but we have a long ways to go.â€
Glad to hear it... but wonder if it would've been better to keep this under wraps. ???
Great news !!
It shows what can happen when the city's leadership picks up the mantle.
Why keep this under wraps? It provides a boost in optimism to the general public about next season, which can lead to more purchasing tickets.

I'm afraid the report could also dissuade fans that feel their ticket money is no longer needed and plan to watch from home.
I doubt it, with it being so early, this could only be a positive influence. I'd hope more people would have common sense than what you said. It'd be pretty pathetic to do that in January.

\I'm making a judgement call on this season, not last season. What happened then is done and over with. There were bad excuses, but if you couldn't afford it or couldn't go, that sounds legit, to me at least.
It is apparent that people just didn't have much enthusiasm last season. With Touchdown Jacksonville and other supporting groups getting the message out there and the public's interest, it is obviously having a positive effect.
i've actually decided to buy two season tickets for next year, so this was a good reminder to get on the stick. thanks!
I will probley only go to a game if they get Tebow.

I'm not trying to argue my team teal and other organizations aren't having a positive effect. We have a long way to go in winning back the 17,000 that didn't renew last year... and with many on the fence about purchasing ticket's this year it makes me worried knowing the Jacksonville day of show mindset.

Sorry my money and Time is worth more to me then to blow it at a Jag game unless it excites me to go. I have been a fan since day one but I'm not waisting my One day off a week to go to something I'm not 100% excited for. :3
Tebow being a truly good guy who leghtly loves the game and plays for the love would excite me to see.
Thank goodness that they are other Jag "fans" who are excited to go to the game, otherwise we wouldn't have a team.
I perfer to go to soccer(real football) games XP
I got seasons also way before Touchdown Jacksonville. Although it was a good idea. Can Tebow stay out of the hospital long enough to play football?
eh in all honesty if he just has a Jag Jersey it'll put fans in the stands.
more fans means they will all feed off each other and become a better crowd which will keep alot of people coming back because they will get swept up in a crowd mentality and have fun, gaining more solid fans from fair weather.
=O maybe
Or maybe 'fans' will leave the drafting up to the general manager and support a team of players chosen by his expertise.

If Tebow drags new fans to the stands and the jags deliver a great experience many will stay no matter how he does.

Exactly, I was waiting for someone else to say something.
He's not worth a 1st or 2nd round pick. If they can get him in the 3rd or later he may be worth the risk.

Uh, except that a lot of the more intelligent (when it comes to NFL football, at least) feel the same way.
We aren't in the Shack Harris days anymore. Gene Smith will ONLY draft Tebow if he likes what he sees over the offseason...and the guy HAS to show he can be an NFL quarterback. Things like actually taking a snap under center, not relying on gimmicky plays, etc. Gene isn't going to pick Tebow just to cater to those Gator fans who are crying for it. If you listen to a lot of sports analysts on TV and sports radio, Tebow actually isn't considered "The Chosen One" by most of them.
I will be upset if Tebow is a Jaguar QB. I don't believe he has what it takes. If I'm wrong, I'll eat my words... but I think there are other options.
That all being said... my friends and I renewed our tickets and actually moved them from 201 to 105. I can't wait until next season!
I thought we needed Tebow, but after the Senior Bowl, :o , er, no. That is not what we need.
Anyone read the TU this morning? Since I did, I'll let you know that Gene Smith has been instructed by Weaver to go back to the 4-3 defense, and to do so, they need another pass rusher on the other side of Harvey (who Smith said will hopefully be a force in his 3rd year, but the book remains open). Then you have Terrence Knighton (sp?) and Henderson. That leaves the other rusher position that was vacated when ? went down first game of last season and was lost all year. Groves is not the answer, so you need someone who can create rush and chaos. Either Dunlap (Florida) or Morgan (Georgia Tech) are the best available when the Jags pick. Since Dunlap is coming off a DUI conviction, the Jags are not looking for another problem draft pick, I believe they will take Morgan who had 12 1/2 sacks last season at Tech, 1 1/2 shy of all that the Jags had in 16 games.
Jags need a better tougher D before they can get back to the playoffs. Review the stats, the D was in the bottom third of the league and has been getting worse and worse over the last few years.

The same can be said about you, but I actually contribute to actual discussion on here. All you provide is mindless, completely irrelevant crap.
Oh yeah, I forgot, I'm feeding the troll.
About Morgan having almost as many sacks as the Jags last season... You can't make a fair comparison between college stats and NFL stats. They are two totally different games with infinitely distinct and separate realms of talent and balance.
Having said that, I hope that the Jags can get a consistent pass rusher this year in the draft. Such a pass rusher will not only pressure the quarterback, but could also create matchup problems to free up Harvey, Groves, and other rushers on the line beside him.
Trust that the GM and his scout have a better grasp than 99% of us fans and will adhere to drafting the best player. The more talent on your team, the better the team will be. Just buy tickets ... as fans, that's all we can really do.
Problem is, previous GMs have been shitty drafters.
Man, I could only salivate & ponder last night watching David Garrard with time to throw 40-yarders to top tier receivers like Ochocinco......
He had time because nobody was rushing the passer. The game was a joke.
It was nice to see Garrard get a chance to play well and throw some good passes after all the heat he took for being there, as though it were his fault so many players dropped out. He certainly put up a better showing than his fellow replacement Vince Young. It'd be nice if that's a harbinger of what he can do in 2010 with better protection.
I don't think Ochocinco is a top tier receiver anymore, though. Not to say he's not a quality starter but his reputation is greater than his production, and his speed isn't what it used to be. I think our receiving corps is fine; at least, there are several bigger concerns on the team.
Just watched some highlights from the Pro Bowl. Garrard looked pretty sharp. I would say it's from a better o-line and a limited amount of defensive pressure allowed. Regardless I think he could be a top 10 QB with better protection.
MJD's 'Mariucci' dance was hilarious... Jaxson Deville topped it off by waving off the cameras.
I watched a bunch of the clips of MJD being interviewed and interviewing other players...he did a great job. I think he's got a great broadcast career waiting for him and we're lucky for the exposure he brings to the team and the city.

Good work fsujax!!!! cheers! I've got a group of 14, about 10 or 11 of them are going to be first year season ticket holders. GO JAGS!! Now go buy a Jags license plate!
I just renewed last week! I strongly encourage the regulars of this forum to buy tix and support the Jags anyway you can (within financial reason). I know there have been posts in the past that the city and Jags cart people out of downtown to fast after the game, and I agree with that issue. But we all need to do our part to support this vital part of our community....
PS It's a blast too!!
You can follow the pace of ticket sales on the Jaguars' website by clicking on the "You are the fuel" link. It's updated every Friday afternoon and breaks out new ticket sales, completed renewals, and pending renewals. (This is only for general bowl tickets and doesn't include club seats or specialty sections--they're only tracking seats that count toward the blackout figure.) As of last Friday we were at 2,700 new sales and it has been going up by 300-400 seats per week.
Don't forget that if you don't go to the games but want to help, you can always buy and donate tickets if you so choose--the Jaguars' ticket office is very helpful with this and will even distribute the tickets to the donee for you in some circumstances. The USO, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, and Jacksonville Historical Society, among other charities, accept donated tickets.
I have renewed my 2 seats.
First time season ticket holder here. I just got two seats last week. I went to the stadium ticket office and you can talk to a person and walk around the stadium with him to choose your exact seats. It was very helpful to see that for the same price some tix are much closer to the field, near an aisle or, like the ones I got, at the top of a gate with a little more legroom. It was cool to be in the quiet stadium too.
Sounds like progress.....

Tony Boselli's Team Teal initiative is also doing a great job of reaching out to the business community and making memorable fan experiences at rallies around the area. HOPEFULLY it's going to extend out beyond the immediate five-county MSA toward Daytona, Orlando, and Savannah too.
The ticket sales gauge was updated this afternoon. 420 new season tickets sold this week and over 3,160 so far this year--that's all new tickets, not the renewals. We're at 18% on renewals so far.
We still have a long way to go, but it's good to see a positive response.
New Data is up as of today. Looks like they had another decent week, but a long way to go. The renewals are up to 27% so far, and its still rather early in that process.
My wife and I bought season tix this year and look forward to having them the rest of our lives!
This is the week the renewal gears start really spinning.
I renewed mine today into the new 30/30 plan. Even with money being tight it was the best thing I've done all year. See you guys/gals this season!
According to jaguars .com as of today:
4,528 new season ticket sales
11,460 season ticket renewals (42%)
15,872 season tickets remaining to be renewed
19,097 new sales remaining to fill general bowl
34,969 tickets remaining to be sold or renewed
50,957 tickets to avoid blackouts (fill general bowl)
These figures do not include club seats or suites, just the seats that count towards the blackout number.

It is, but we've been consistently selling 400-500 new tickets a week, and by all accounts 42% isn't a bad thing--everyone who seems to know something about the situation says the vast majority of ticket renewals occur close to the deadline.
This has really been encouraging, and the ticket office is obviously working overtime--I e-mailed my friend there the other night after 7:00 and got a reply right back.
Go Jags hope to see some metrojacksonville members this season.
Look for me in the west club. Hmmmm... I probably need to replace my Reggie Nelson jersey. ;D

I don't know...obviously there are a lot of people who would like to see that happen, but I don't think the non-renewers are making their renewal contingent on that at all, just waiting until the last minute.
And the 400-500 new sales per week is quite good...the sales efforts have been consistent, the sales haven't faded after an initial burst. Compare to last year when the Jags sold 13 total season tickets in January, and two of those were to me.
Jones-Drew Jersey all the way Go Jags. I signed up for 3 yrs. Go Jags!!!!

Miss Fixit, with the season ticket holder ID card you can also get discounts at many and varied local businesses that participate in the Jaguars Rewards program. There's an extensive list of them on the Jaguars' website. I'm an out of town ticket holder but I use it to get discounts at the hotel where I stay, the Metro Diner, Gate stations, and some stores. Participating businesses usually have a (small and not particularly well publicized) Jaguars Rewards sticker in the front window. Some ticket holders who live in the area have reported being able to save hundreds of dollars a year through Jaguars Rewards.
I have gotten a card yet, when do you get one?

I have gotten a card yet, when do you get one?
In July, when your tickets are printed and mailed.
Adding to Wakka Pilatka's post, here's what I consider to be one of the better perks of being a STH:
For each purchase of 10 gallons or more in Gate gasoline, we get a coupon for $2 in "Jag Dollars" for use inside the stadium. Take your receipt inside to the cashier, show your card, and get a coupon. You take the coupons to one of 4 tents set up on the stadium grounds and redeem them, then spend the Jag Dollars like cash on food, drinks(even beer!), swag, etc. during the games. You can spend them every week, or save up for a big blowout at season's end. I typically do a little of both.
The Gate program runs from August to December.
Since I have a small tank to fill up, it's like getting a $.15 per gallon rebate each time. Think of all the people who already waste gas driving all over town or even across the St. Mary's to save a few cents on gas and would knock down their grandmothers to save 15 cents on a gallon of gas! All we have to do is what we likely would do anyway. The savings are even greater if you only get 10 gallons each fill-up to maximize return. I think I'm going to try that this season.
Also, you get a "rewards card" printed on each sheet of tickets. If you have multiple seats and multiple drivers in your household, you can really rack up some game-day spending cash- depending on your driving habits. I'm still working on my wife to fill up at Gate during the season- she just won't stray from her routine :'(
The only drawback is having to ring Gate's cash registers.
ok
According to jaguars .com as of today:
5,297new season ticket sales (4,528 on 3/11)

That is always my biggest concern when moving seats... and I moved around a lot over the past few years. I had tickets for 3 years in 140 row L... the view was amazing but the section was really tame. We had a row of elderly behind us that would get upset anytime you stood up in front of them. It's pretty hard to stay seated at the end of the game on 4th down with the game on the line.
I moved from the north endzone a couple of years ago to the west club near my dad. I still miss all the drunken animals over there. They're my peeps.
NORTH END ZONE!!!! WOOOO!!!!! GO JAGS!!!!!!
We need more volume on this site. You just can't get the experience across.

Jags shooting for 85 percent
Prescott talks renewals
Monday, March 22, 2010
By Vic Ketchman, jaguars.com senior editor
The Jaguars need to renew at least 85 percent of their season ticket base to have a realistic chance of selling out the general bowl for games at Jacksonville Municipal Stadium next season. That is an opinion offered by team chief financial officer Bill Prescott following last Friday’s first renewal deadline.
“We’re shooting for at least 85 percent renewal rate. The due date was Friday and we’ve got about 71 percent renewed. We’ve got three percent that told us they’re not renewing their tickets and 26 percent we haven’t heard from yet. Of that 26 percent, we need at least 14 percent, more than half of those people, to renew their seats,†Prescott said from Orlando, site of this week’s NFL owners meetings.
“We’ll be reaching out to all of those people,†Prescott said of the still-undecided season ticket holders. “On March 31, we’ll release the seats if we haven’t heard from them.â€
The numbers continue to be daunting, the result of a season ticket base that reached a low last season and could force the Jaguars to have to sell a record amount of season tickets this year to have any chance of televising the team’s home games.
Prescott said the season ticket base is about 27,000, of which about 3,000 of those are the result of sponsorship and trade deals, leaving 24,000 paying customers.
“Outside of the inception of the franchise, the most new season tickets we sold in a year were 8,000. Looking to sell 15,000, 20,000 season tickets would be a tall undertaking,†Prescott said.
Is he encouraged by the current 71 percent renewal rate?
“I think it’s OK. We’re definitely running ahead of last year and that’s encouraging, but we need to get more than half of those people we haven’t heard from to renew. If we get at least 85 percent renewal, that’s still a long way to go to fill the general bowl. That’s why that minimum number is so critical,†Prescott said.
“I’m still hopeful we’re going to get that 85 percent renewal. The fact that the 30/30 plan is going to end at the end of March, we should have a strong push,†he added.
and then there's the Tampa Bay Buccaneers...
http://www2.tbo.com/content/2010/mar/24/bucs-tv-blackouts-reali-possibility-2010-glazer-sa/news-breaking/
wouldnt that be something if Tampa had blackouts and the Jacksonville didn't.
Just confirmed my parking pass in Lot H! Any MetJax people tailgating there?
It would be so great to stop hearing about blackouts at Jags games because the Jag sell out. Then all the press can be on just football and not selling tickets, blackouts, AND THEN football.
Shwaz-
How do you get a parking pass? I am a new season ticket holder and I want to buy one but I have no clue where one goes to get a parking pass.
I bought mine through the ticket office. All lots are the same price of $250... so of course the only lot currently available is Lot Z located west of the arena.
However, now is the time to call them so when someone doesn't renew you can scoop theirs up.
You can get on a list for a decent lot immediately and if a spot comes available you can add it to your monthly installments or buy it out right.
Thanks. We have some friends in the lot under the Hart Bridge Expy. I think that's lot J, but Im not 100% sure. I think that's probably hard to come by, but I guess I'll get on the list and hope for the best.
Is that 250 for a whole season?I will probably just park and walk like I normally do, but I would love to chip in food or money for tailgating

For perspective, the Lions are bragging about having sold 1,000 new season tickets, total.
"Let's not start sucking each other's d--ks just yet"...so said Winston Wolf.
While it is really good news that we're making such steady progress--and so soon--the possibility still exists that we hit a wall at some point. I remain cautiously optimistic until we actually cross the finish line.
Buzzkill.
Saw Vito's report in the TU today, that while sales have been brisk, the team expects to lose another 5,000 season ticket holders this year alone. Combine that with the 17,000 from before, and its a good bet, according to him, that we will see blackouts again this year.
Jaguars extend 30/30 ticket plan until May 31

Mtrain.. to put it in some perspective.. the TU today says that the Jaguars are essentially where they ended the season last year ticket-wise. They have had equal number new sales and non-renewals.
Season ticket sales always pick up rather briskly after the draft. We certainly do have a long way to go, but I think we can get there with the momentum that is starting to build. I seem to recall that we had to sell something like 10,000 club seats within a week when Touchdown Jacksonville was resurrected. Those required 3 year commitments as well. We can do this, we just have to keep working at it.

Good idea Jags I think this will help.Lets hope we have a good draft and good season to follow. Go Jags!!!!!!!!!!!!
At first they required 3 years of ticket sales now they are offering a great incentive for 3 years. I think the 30/30 plan will be popular as long as they use it. It also offers a good hedge against a bad season costing you too many season ticket holders. If Jax could put itself in a good ticket position for 3 years maybe much of the speculation we always receive will back off. Good job Jags keep it up.
An AFC Championship would also help. Go Jags!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lets get a move on, no blackouts! which is in my opinion the most counterproductive and self defeating policy imaginable.
Jags are now 55% of the way to the blackout avoidance number. 79% of season ticket holders from last year have renewed.

The kitschy-but-neat little fuel gauge has been removed, I see. Too bad. Nothing says progress and inspires like a fuel gauge that's over half full.

It's still there. It just shares time with ads now. And, it's more than half full.

Excellent! I guess I just didn't wait long enough for the rotation. Thanks for straightening me out, aaa!
The meter hasn't moved yet, but it looks like another ~400-ish new sales this week plus the renewal rate increased to 82%. Bottom line is, every ticket sold in the last 2 weeks & going forward is an improvement over last year's position at the start of the season......And on a "I'm now changing the channel" side note, what's up with WJXT running such a slanted story last week regarding "failure" to meet the 80% renewal objective in March? They "failed" to mention that we were within 200 tickets of that goal @ 79%! Here's the headline: Jaguars Fail To Meet Latest Ticket Goals - Team Did Not Meet Goal To Renew 80% Of Season Ticket Holders By March.
It was pretty unnerving to read the story as it was picked up & further hyperbolized by some national media - a la The National Football Post & ProFootball Talk......grrr.

"The Local Station" - My Ass!
QuoteWe can do this, we just have to keep working at it.
We're at 57% of the quota needed to keep from blackouts. Draft is the 22nd. I sure hope the draft does it, I doubt it, Weaver needs to really get out and be seen. Too much apathy towards the team.
This is Weaver's business, but its our team. Come on Jax, get off your duffs and buy a seat.
Where are the TV & Radio spots? Where are the billboards along I-95 North and South? Where are the ads on line - this site included? Why don't they landscape "Go Jaguars" into some of the medians anymore? Why aren't the buildings lit up in teal or "Go Jaguars" anymore? While I appreciate the "grassroots" effort put forth by Team Teal, it certainly needs to be a supplement to a much larger initiative. Once again, while driving into Orlando down I-4, there were Bucs & Dolphins billboards pushing tickets - In "OUR MARKET" - so we're told.............Not a spotted cat in sight. The best thing to date that I've heard was Mike Sims-Walker tweeting his fans/followers earlier this week to meet him at the movies in Regency & he'd pick up the tab! I'm serious - more visibility creates an identity & a subsequent following/loyalty. Not handouts, just involvement. I can probably still name more players from '95-'99 than the present roster. I even remember Keenan's bail bond commercials!
blizz...the "Team Teal" stuff is all over the place.
