My prediction for a 9-7 season looks like it will be an 8-8 season with no playoff appearance, woo hoo! Let's start rallying everyone for season ticket sales now, you just KNOW everyone's gonna be excited about next season.
::)
I'll be excited when they get a good pass rush and qb.
A rebuilding young team looking prime for at least a couple good draft picks....
I think the Jags will be MUCH improved next season and if I had the coin I would spring for season tix in a heartbeat.
Still looking forward to going to a couple games at least.
Win or lose, I love me some Jacksonville Jaguars NFL football!

A complete roster turnover, the most rookies in the NFL and they were in the playoff hunt until week 17.
Unfortunately this team, past and present, does not rebound well after losses. 3 straight losses in December and I think they will lose to the suddenly "hot" Browns. I picked them to go 8 -8 and I think it will be 7 - 9 now. But, they do have some good potential but Lord they need some sort of pass rush.

Believe it or not, the Jags still have an outside, albeit near impossible, shot at the playoffs. If they can win, and Denver, Baltimore, Pitt, NY Jets, and Houston lose, we're in! (thats for # 5 spot.. if any four of the 5 lose, we'd get the number 6).
Even though we most likely will not make the playoffs, to not get eliminated until game number 16 with so many new faces to the team, and to the NFL is pretty darn good. Those people who keeps saying "Fire Jack Del Rio" or "Draft Tim Tebow" have obviously never watched the NFL.
I'm pleased with the season at 7-9 or 8-8, and can't wait to renew! Go Jags!
Good seasons, bad seasons, encouraging seasons like this one....I'm there!

True, and they probably aren't going to buy tickets anyway.
I have watched the Jags since day one. I do not say draft Tebow as I am not sold on him, but I am on the fire Del Rio or sack Garrard band wagon. What has Del rio given us in 7 years other than bad draft picks, mediocre at best seasons, and one lucky playoff experience? We need a change. Garrard is not the answer. He, like Del Rio, is mediocre at best. He has flashes of brilliance, then lapses into throw the ball 10 ft over the receivers head, or fumble the ball in the red zone, or stand in the pocket and be too indecisive.
We need a QB in the next draft and some pass rush desperately. Our defense was the worst I have seen it, and lets face it, other than one or two games, the product on the field has been abysmal to watch. I wouldn't want to pay anything for the team as it is.
^ Agreed with the defense...that is why Del Rio should go since he is a defense guy...
the biggest thing they need is consistancy!
Head coach, QB, and something that resembles a defense. See ya next yr go JAGS!!!!!
I did not feel that the Jags would do any better than 8-8 this year. Having said that I am disappointed with the inconsistency and the blow outs.
I have always felt like that in football the three phases of the game are so inter-connected and are key to a successful year.
A good offense improves your defense and vice versa with a strong D and your offense. Special teams can really help out the offense and defense and etc...
Below are some of the reasons we have been very bad at times this year:
Garrard and the Jags lead the NFL in Redzone turnovers with I think nine or ten.
Garrard has been the most hit QB in the league.
We have 14 QB sacks as a team! Elvis Dumervil has 17 sacks by himself.
Three QB completion percentage records have been set this year against the Jags by the opposition
enough said...
The Jags SUCK as a road team this year. Sure they won in NY, but were BLOWN out in SF, NE, Tenn and Seattle, on NATIONAL TV.
Garrard is a backup QB. He won't lead the team to wins in the playoffs, no matter if they Jags had the best WRs in the league. I do like the new WRs with the team, but Garrard shows he is a backup QB every week. Mark Brunell would be an improvement at this point, and probably sell more tickets.
Del Rio is not the problem, his staff is the problem. He has not had a consistent OC since he has been there, every year, there is turnover, seems Del Rio shuffles people out because he needs new people to blame for next year's failures. Weaver HAS TO SEE THIS. I see it, and I don't own Shoe Carnival.
All I can hope for is a few club seats available, (which should not be a problem given the pathetic Indy showing at Home), and a few upper deck seats for the company I work at, because it will be the corporate community that saves the team, not the walk-up seats.
It was fun and frustrating a little this yr. I enjoyed the Tenn home game the most. Jags did sweep the Texans this yr which was a bonus. IMO Del Rio is one of the problems and many fans believe that.

Del Rio was never in charge of drafting.
Lucky playoffs,, the 07 Jaguars earned that spot in the playoffs. DG mistakes(ints) made it more interesting than it should have been in Pitts. I just hope we dont lose our team. Jaguars still could have done better this yr despite their roster.
QuoteDel Rio was never in charge of drafting.
He actually had veto power on picks with Shack Harris, so he is culpable with the draft picks during Shack's tenure. He was right there when they choose their picks. He can't wash his hands of some of these picks.
He never had veto power. Shack had final say. It is widely known that Del Rio wanted Brady Quinn in 2006 but Shack Harris overruled him.
Del Rio has consistently given us mediocrity. He (as the head coach) is ultimately responsible for the players on the field and their performance in their given roles/positions.
Fans have become very tired of his formula (and his weak excuses after horrific losses). He is (was) supposed to be some sort of defensive guru and the defenses that have rolled out under him have been horrible in recent seasons.
If Weaver wants to put asses in seats next season, he will make a coaching change (not coordinators and assistants-already been done every season) soon.
Well not a bad choice there. (Quinn that is). I do believe a change is needed. Since Rio has been here you always ask yourself before a Jag game, which team will show up. I never remember thinking that duriing TC days.

During the good years the Jaguars were unbeatable at home and average on the road but the last few Coughlin years were pretty hard to watch. Mostly aging has-beens and young never-weres.
True, but RIO Jags, sometimes I am lost for words.
I would love to see Dungy here if he were to come back to coaching and the Jags were willing to pay what he would command.
Del Rio and DG should have never been given those rich contracts. WW should have said do again and then we will talk. I think we are stuck with them both for a little while longer. I just hope the texans dont get cowher.
QuoteShack had final say.
Actually according to a 2007 interview with Vito Stellino of the TU, Weaver said that WE (himself, coaches, personnel) agreed to pass on quinn and keep Left(Sand)wich as the QB. Del Rio is as culpable as Weaver as is Shack. Its a team, they're all in it together.
I will not even get started on Garrard (ok..guess I will). From a personal standpoint great guy (from my limited encounters with him). Mediocre NFL QB at best. He is not the future for this franchise. A guy that has been in the league 9 or so years and still makes rookie mistakes (consistently in potential game-winning drives) is not the answer.
Get a QB in this year's draft and develop him. Not Tebow! The guy from Cincy doesn't look bad nor does the guy from Oregon. Or my long shot (perhaps next year's draft) Ryan Mallett.
Found this on a draft site for the 2010 NFL shoot 'em up, Jack Del Rio style:
QuoteMallett has tons of potential to be an effective pocket passer, but he has absolutely no mobility.
That sounds like another Left(Sand)wich to me. Or it could be another Peyton Manning, but the last QB we drafted around 6-6 came to the Jags as a WR and we all know what happened next, we're still waiting.
For the money, I like Pat Devlin....Pat Who? He is with Delaware and has a cannon for an arm, someone who can actually hit Torry Holt running down the field. He plays for a small school, and not widely known, would be a good candidate, but who am I kidding, everyone in the media says we will take Tebow, so what do I know?
It really wont matter who they get if the O-line continues to get beat on a regular basis. In DG defense it amazing he's started in every game this season. Peyton is not a mobile QB either, but when you have 20 sec to pass the ball you could do that in a body cast.
Thankfully there is only 1 Peyton Manning in the league, he is a machine, making reads in as little as 10 seconds. DG cannot and will not ever be PM. Fine, work with his strengths, short quick throws, outs, screens, maybe even run the ball a few yards, but get rid of it when the pocket collapses. Big difference in DG and PM is sacks.
The game has changed with PM and the Colts OC Tom Moore, he has been with the Colts now 12 years and won Super Bowls with multiple teams. He knows how to call plays to PM strengths. Dirk Koetter has done well everywhere he has gone, he has been with the Jags for 3 years now,in 2007 the Jags were 7th in Total Offense, last year slipped to 20th, this year 16th, so progress with new receivers. the D is what is killing us in 07 they were 12th, then in 08 were 17th, and now they are 22nd so far this year, all with a new D coordinator this year, Mel Tucker.
I just never get my hopes up for this team, because of back to back losing seasons with a former nfl player who should of stayed retired. Tampa Bay haven't had a great year this year, but look at who they just beat. True, Jacksonville came close to defeating Indy, but mistakes did 'em in.
QuoteTampa Bay haven't had a great year this year, but look at who they just beat.
Every squirrel eventually finds a nut. Tampa showed great character coming back from behind to win on the road. Something we all wanted to see out of the Jags Sunday, but didn't.
Saints also missed a FG. Most division games are close because teams no each other well. Bears have been bad all yr, but beat the Vikes. With the offense the Texans have, their QB is ranked third in passing I think. Yet the Jags swept them,,,sh_t happens.
ANY GIVEN SUNDAY, ANYONE CAN BE BEAT. They made a movie about it. Texans QB, Schaub is 6th in QB rating. Garrard is 18th, and Schaub was hurt most of the game in Jax. As a side note, Schaub had 300 yards in the first game At Houston. Then when he was hurt for most of the game, only had 207. Each game the Jags won by 1 score. Very close indeed. By the way, the Jags pass D is 27th out of 32 teams so far this season.
Interesting ATTENDANCE tidbit, the Jags are 31st out of 32 teams in attendance, the Lions are worse than the Jags in Total Attendance, both at home and away games combined. Yes, we are at about 49,651 in average attendance for the 8 home games this year, but at least we are not dead last.
Schaub was hurt, but not most of the game. Jags did build a lead while he was out. Texans mistakes cost them that game, also the Jags red zone offense or lack of kept the Texans in the game until the end.
Considering how Jax is the poster child to be picked on we really are dead last. Have you heard any stories about the Lions going to LA or London?
When Schaub came back in after being hurt in the first series, he was down 17-0. He went out at the 10 min mark in 1st qtr, after 1st play of Houston series. He came back with 7 minutes to play in the 2nd, and led Houston to a TD. He is the 6th rated QB this year in the NFL. IF he had a D to go with the O, they might be in the playoffs. How the Jags are in the hunt with the 27th ranked D is beyond me.
None on detroit, but I hear more grumblings about Minnesota as well as Buffalo not being able to get along with the cities. Remember when the Colts left Baltimore in the DEAD of night? It was not because the fans were not there, it was because the City would not work with the Colts on what the team needed to be successful.
The number of fans at a game is a misleading indicator, remember there are 32 CEOs of the NFL and they run the show and determine what is in the best interest of the NFL and their franchise.

I would be fine with Dungy but it won't happen. If Del Rio is fired (which I don't think he will be), Weaver would have to pay out the rest of Del Rio's contract. If they were to get a coach like Shanahan, Dungy or Cowher (which they won't) Weaver would be paying appx 10 million dollars to coaches next year. For a low revenue team, that won't happen. And it isn't just an issue here. ESPN has reported the Bears probably won't fire Lovie Smith because if they do, they would have to pay him over 10 million over the next two years.
Unfortunately the Jag players do just enough so Del Rio doesn't get fired. The players accomplish what they do despite the coaching. I am starting to get sick of Del Rio, but I am not holding breath on him being fired. The good thing is every year there is a big name coach available, so if JDR doesn't live up to this contract over the next couple of years I am sure WW will show him the door. Watch out for the Jags in 2010.... SEASON TICKET HOLDER FOR 6 YEARS..... BUY TICKETS PEOPLE CAUSE NEXT YEAR WILL BE FUN.... GO JAGS !!!!!!!!
Not winning............not filling! If you can not win, any team would be hard put to fill a stadium! Buffalo has taken to playing games in Montreal of all ungoshly places and its not helping! Jag's need to win to get people into the stands and if they are not winning...........duh!!
QuoteJag's need to win to get people into the stands and if they are not winning...........duh!!
I used to have the same self-centered belief. If I did not buy seats, then maybe my message would get heard. Forget it, the only message you send with not supporting the team, is that some other city wants your team and the multi-million dollar impact locally. Forget getting better shopping, entertainment, charities take a HUGE nose dive (Jags pump 40+ million a year locally in charities), we need them Jags here.
Forget that its a football team with suspect players and coaches, and buy a seat because you believe in Jacksonville and our future. When you buy a seat, you are investing in the future of Jacksonville. Corny, but true.

It wouldn't be the worst thing in the world if it means expanding our fan base so we have regional support, as well as reducing the ticket-buying burden on the Jacksonville market. When it comes down to it, almost all buyers of Jaguar tickets are from Jacksonville and the immediate area. This year, obviously, ticket sales dropped a lot, but in many previous years the Jaguars could market locally only and sell out or come close to it.
Other small-market teams market regionally out of necessity and we're going to have to follow that model. It's unsustainable to expect the people of Jacksonville to continue to "overperform" as they did in 1995-2000 and 2004-2008. Buffalo draws significantly from Rochester and Syracuse as well as Toronto; the Saints draw from all over Louisiana and Mississippi; the Colts draw from the secondary Indiana cities as well as from Louisville. We need secondary market support to thrive.

Even one game a year in London wouldn't be a total loss if it meant a reduced local ticket-buying burden. But if we have to play games in a second locale, obviously Orlando would be preferable. Ideally, of course, we wouldn't have to relocate any of the games or could just relocate a preseason game. I know the Dolphins used to play quite a few preseason games in Orlando, the Bucs and Falcons had a few in Jacksonville, etc.
I'm for the London game. I think it will build interest in the team both nationally and abroad and it'll drive down some of the season ticket price next year when Orlando games aren't an option.
I think the dedicated season ticket holders should have the option of going . . . a realistic option.

Technically they / we do. Honestly I don't care if they play in Nova Scotia this year if it helps lift some of the overall burden and keep the team in Jax.
do you really think travelling to London for a regular season football game is a realistic option for the average season ticket holder? cross atlantic plane tickets, hotel room, taking time off of work, the incidental travel expenses, seems a little costly for a regular season football game that may not have much bearing on the playoff picture. I have not met many season ticket holders willing to shell out that kind of cash for a single game, unless it was the superbowl or the game to get into the super bowl.

I don't know if London games will help us get national attention, though it'd be nice...the Bucs and Dolphins probably did not get much out of it the past couple of years. Our best hope of getting national attention is to win. The Jaguars ranked a lot higher in merchandise sales and in the "favorite team" polls in the late 90s and had more prime-time and nationally televised games. Look at Indianapolis and New Orleans--winning in a small market means the national press has to stop ignoring you. The good news is, we're building a good foundation for that to happen consistently.

I'm with you, but I do hate the idea of Jaguar fans in Jacksonville missing a home game. With my being out of market, I can only make about two Jaguar games a year and hate to advocate for playing games out of market because I can't relate to having a home game taken away. Orlando's a realistic drive and probably offers greater potential for expanding our regional fan footprint (pawprint).
Quotedon't be surprised when the Jags do the same an play a game or two in the Citrus Bowl
No way will that happen unless Orlando is willing to bend over and give Weaver $$$$$$$$$ in revenue lost for parking, food, as well as the premium seats. The Citrus bowl still has the aluminum seats, as well, correct? I think there is a standard for NFL games and aluminum seats are not it.
Weaver won't have a choice if the NFL demands it. Besides sharing revenue for one game with Orlando, which could be a sell out, is probably more lucrative than only having 35k show up in Jax for that same game.
why would Orlando sell out?
It's not like they supported the Rays when they played a weekend series there in 2008
Novelty for the locals and out of towners on a Diseny vacation. Also it is close enough for season ticket holders to make a weekend trip out of it. Should add up to more ticket sales than the average game last season and most likely a sell out.
well that novelty didn't help the Rays who averaged about 8,000 fans for their 3-game series (btw, 2008 was their World Series year)...and I would say few vactioners went, even though the games were played at Disney.
My understanding is there won't be any NFL games played in ORL until they renovate the Citrus Bowl to NFL standards or build a new stadium to NFL standards. Why would they do this, you ask? To get in the Superbowl rotation with Pasadena, New Orleans and Miami. They could have a Jags home game and a Bucs home every year plus the Citrus Bowl game and other college games.
QuoteWeaver won't have a choice if the NFL demands it.
The NFL is run by 32 owners, and they have Goddell as their puppet. Never lose sight of who owns and runs the league. It is highly unlikely that other owners would tell Weaver how to run his business.

As a Rays fan (one of two in Jacksonville), I went to a game in Orlando with my wife. We sat right behind home plate and almost everybody I talked to was from the Tampa are and used the game as an excuse to go to Orlando.
