The Jags are still 6-5 people and have a very beatable Texans coming to town this Sunday. I know there will be plenty of empty seats and have come to grips with the fact that Jacksonville doesn't have 65K true Jaguars fans. But for the people that plan on heading out there on Sunday, don't get down on this team yet. They are 6-5 and a win would keep us right in the mix for that wildcard spot. I see the Jags bouncing back and putting on a good show this weekend. GO JAGS!!!!!!!!
so that 6-5.... is that 6 losses to 5 horrible losses? ;p
With 5 games to go, the Jags have more wins than last season. They are in an obvious rebuilding year, and to be in the playoff hunt is pretty outstanding. The Jags start and play more rookies than any other team in the league!
Now if only we didn't have so many fair-weather fans! On the plus side, I think there is a good deal of young fans who have grown up with the Jags, who are just now able to afford tickets on their own. The Jags will be fine in the future!
NOW LET'S GET A WIN THIS WEEK!!!
did you see the last game?
It looked like they wanted to all lose their jobs lol

I'm one of those younger generation fans who now own my own season tickets and wouldn't trade my Sundays at JMS with the Jags for anything. Everything you said above is spot on and if the season ended today we'd be the 6th seed in the playoffs. Yet there are still ignorant clowns in this City...(see Reaper Man) who will always have something negative to say. Oh well, I'm sure he's another Steeler transplant.
The Steelers dont have much to crow about at this time either... :)

I never thought I'd get mad at anyone on this forum because I stay out of the political discussions, but seriously, what is your problem? Every time there's a Jaguar thread you interject some anti-Jaguar comment founded in total ignorance of the team's situation. There's this bizarre cult of anti-Jaguar reactionary behavior in Jacksonville and there's a real and increasing risk that it's going to run the team out of town, which will spell disaster for the city's public image. I'm sure your "OMG JAGUARZ MOST TERRIBLE TEEM EVER!!!!111!!" jokes will seem just as cute if that happens.
I think there is an apathetic group of people in most sports towns. I spend time in Tampa and there is a large group of people who treat the Rays the same way even after they made the World Series. Most are transplants from the northeast that have allegiances to the Red Sox, Yankees or Phillies. You try to ignore those types but it is tough sometimes.
Don't let them get your goat! Or jaguar in this instance.

Sure, apathy is one thing and of course we have transplants. But he's in literally every Jaguar thread writing some variant on "the team is irredeemably terrible." I'm just getting frustrated with the self-destruction of the people who have decided they are not Jaguar fans anymore because the team isn't good enough or some mythology about the "Thuguars."
I'm going to the game this weekend. If we can finish 8-8 I'll be happy. 9-7, I'll be ecstatic. 10-6....... I'd probably pass out.
I think 8-8 is probably realistic. Split the next two, beat Cleveland and lose to Indy and New England. 8-8 is still alot better than most people though. It should give them some momentum going into next year also.
They do need to add a QB early in the draft next year. And not a project like Tebow. Someone who can step in early like Joe Flacco or Ben Roethlisberger did.
Seriously - this is not the minor league football they play in Gainesville. The Jaguars don't have any opponents like Appalacian State or Central Michigan on their schedule. Every team is a Top 25 team - bottom line. Half of the teams will finish better than 8-8 and half will finish worse than 8-8. 808 for a rebuilding team is excellent, in my opinion.
The gap in the NFL between the best teams and the worst teams is small. I can't stand the people with that college mentality. I have had people come up to me on Monday mornings at work and ask what happened to the Jaguars...after a win. What the hell?
It's astonishing to me. I thought Jacksonville would be the most thankful and supportive city in the NFL, or at least in the top tier in that regard, based on the many years' quest for a team and the importance of the team to elevating the city's national image. I'll defend the city to the death to other outsiders, but the attitudes among those who have the means to go to games and the interest in football, but reject the team as unworthy, blow my mind.
One thing that would help is if we had a few more Maurice Jones-Drew types on the team. A few more star players. He is by far the biggest star this franchise has ever seen. He is in national commercials, on national sport radio shows, on ESPN and NFL Network. People want to wear his jersey and watch him play. I am not advocating signing a T.O. or anything but identifying better skill players in the draft, especially at QB. Having said that, I trust Gene Smith. He has been dynamite so far.
Sims-Walker may have star potential, both in personality and production.
I'm with you on Gene all the way.

I understand you are viewing the schedule with a conservative guess to our final record, but why should we chalk up New England and Indy as losses before we've even played them? Correct me if I'm wrong (which I'm not) but we only lost to Indy by 2 measly points. We have a very legit shot at winning the majority of these difficult upcoming games.
We're talking about fair weather fans and the pandemic of anti-Jaguar pessimism in this city, but part of that stems from people assuming the Jaguars are going to lose every game. It boils my blood when I hear people say things like, "Yeah the Jags won yesterday, but we still suck." Can you think of a more ignorant, dimwitted thing for an alleged fan to say? In addition to supporting your team by attending the games, having a positive and favorable attitude constitutes being a fan too.
Indy may be 13-0 and resting starters at that point too...the Colts have made it clear that once they've clinched home field, they don't view 16-0 as a goal and will rest starters accordingly. Vic is already making Sorgi jokes in anticipation.
Regardless, I'd like them to be 13-0 when they play us because they can help us out with wins over Tennessee and Denver these next two weeks. The Colts have been surprisingly helpful to the Jaguars' wild card chances lately, leaving me rooting for them and feeling vaguely unclean about it.
We match up reasonably well with the Colts even at full strength, provided the tackles are able to handle Freeney and Mathis, as we're usually able to run quite well on them and control the clock. I won't write NE off as an automatic loss either, but I dislike that matchup much more since they have a plethora of targets and we don't have the pass rush to prevent Brady from taking advantage of them.

Maybe next year we can schedule Jacksonville International and Yulee Southern.

Don't forget that we're 4-1 at home and have a three game home stand comming up. The next three could easily be wins.
Hopefully the offense will be able to convert scoring opportunities to points against Houston as in the game at Houston earlier this year. I'm sure we can move the ball on Houston but am scared of what kind of yardage we might allow through the air with Mathis almost definitely out.
For the Miami game I'll be in town, which I guess is both good (I'm noisy) and bad (the Jaguars have never won a home game I've attended).
If the jags have never won a game you attended, then stay away,,lol. I will be there win or lose.
^Mathis has been ruled out this week against Houston. Comments seem positive for a return against Miami.
He might want to sit that one out too. Its going to hard for a little guy like him to have to tackle Ricky Williams 15 yards down the field every other play. ;)
In addition to my magic skill for coming to Jacksonville for games we end up losing, I also have a talent for being there when Mathis is injured. Sure hope both streaks get broken this time.
Lake, will you be at the Miami game?
I am in the same frame of mind as a few of you, I don't think there is any game left on our schedule that we can't win. The O-line better step up and give David some protection this Sunday. Keeping the ball and letting time run off the clock and mixing up the passing and running game will be key to keeping the Texans offense on the sidelines. Our D is definitely suspect, but when the offense is going 3 and out, 4 or 5 times in a row, that wears on a defense. This 3 game home stand is huge and a couple of wins is really what we need going into that Indy game. I have been at games where we have beat the mighty Colts. They are not unbeatable by any stretch of the imagination, just have to keep Peyton off the field for as long as possible, and for Gods sake, can someone actually get a sack this Sunday, please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
