I know I have been posting on this forum for a couple of years, but strictly as an outsider who would SOMEDAY live in Jacksonville. Well, that day has arrived. Tomorrow (Friday, Sept 29) morning, we leave South Haven, Michigan bound for our new life. I am so excited to finally do this.
To the many who have welcomed me to this forum in the past, despite my non-resident status, I say thank you. I have learned so much about my future home, just by being on these pages. For those who questioned "why Jacksonville?", I'll say it again: great weather, great beaches, great dining and shopping, an airport that allows us to travel "home" in a very short time, fun things to do THE WHOLE YEAR! It is all that is good about Florida, without the millions of annoying tourists. ;D ;D ;D
Welcome to Jax!

Even most of the annoying Michiganders end up on the west coast (Sarasota is particularly popular)! ;D
Good luck on your journey and I hope you enjoy your new home. I'll be back for a couple of weeks in December. Maybe we can try to meet up to watch a soccer game or something.
Welcome Timmy... the weather may be a bit of a disappointment this weekend...
Can´t help but to love posts like this. As someone who swore they´d never leave JAX (just to permanently leave JAX), love seeing the enthusiasm of those moving there.
Welcome to your new home.
Welcome! I do believe this is one of the great places to live all year round (but plan your vacations back to Michigan in July and August lol).
Welcome home
WELCOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jax just got a tiny bit cooler :)
Welcome home, TimmyB!
Thanks, everyone. My day just got even better!

I'd like that, Adam. Let's make it happen.
Welcome! I'm sure you'll love it down here.
Welcome and enjoy, post pics as you explore
First thing you should do is buy a Jaguars jersey. All the current controversy notwithstanding, once we get back to normal you'll find that as a Jax resident, nothing is more annoying than hosting a Pittsburgh home game in our stadium. Or Chicago. Or Denver. Etc.
Welcome!
Despite the constant whining about local issues, which we are absolutely allowed to do as natives and long-term transplants, this is a great place to live. Sure, there is plenty that needs fixing, but there is so much awesomeness that we take for granted because we are used to it. I love this city and living here. Welcome and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Ha! That's truly funny. Sadly, I'm not much for the nfl. I much prefer futbol over football, but I do love college football. I'd love to finally take in an SEC game. If it helps with local pride, I've had my Armada shirt for a couple of years. :D ;) :D
Welcome Timmy. All things considered, it's a great place to live. I've been all over the world and can't stay away. Moved away twice, but came back. The grass is always greener on the Jacksonville side of the fence. Hope you will agree.

We searched for 11 years for our place to go. We visited Jax in 2009 for the first time and just fell in love with all that it had. We visited another five or six times, just hoping to be shown that we were right, or that we were wrong. We never found the "wrong". We love the weather, we love the ocean, and that's a great start, especially when you've been wanting to live near the water for about 40 years! Thanks for the welcome. :)

What??? I want my money back! :D
Trust me, after 60 Michigan winters, it's going to take a lot to disappoint me, weather-wise.

It will probably be June and July for us, but point taken! That's the great thing about the heat: you can still get up early and do your activities and avoid much of it, then head indoors or go to the pool or beach.
Welcome!
We are in Tifton, GA for the night. 176 miles to go!!!

My condolences. But maybe you can pick up some good books while you're there - it
is the "Reading Capital of the World" after all...

It was a good night's sleep, Adam, and that's all that mattered to us!
And, now we are in our apartment in Jacksonville. The rains stopped just in time for the movers and I to get everything inside. (Still took three hours, even with their help!)
Welcome! I made the same decision (from Chicago) 37 years ago--and consider Jacksonville one of the best decisions I ever made! I hope you'll find the same to be true!

Whereabouts are you staying (like what part of town)?

Thanks. We looked at a lot of cities before choosing Jacksonville. We hope it's a long term thing!

Atlantic/Kernan area.
Jacksonville has been to me like Paradise! I Charles W (Memphis, TN) relocated here in 2011 to the Northside pecan park area and it's been amazing the style of living I became accustom too, seeing that there's 12 types of living areas(beach, forest, waterfront, inner-city, country, historic,etc....) I love the fact the amount of social n dining(food, ale) restaurants n eatery's this city have as well as almost record amount of family owned businesses, n seafood restaurants. You also don't have to go far to find water n all the good meals that come out of it. The winters are mild and the summers are hot and with the geographical position on a inner bend of the southeast United States, Jacksonville Florida always tend to miss a direct hit from Mother natures wrath(Hurricanes)
Welcome, I say to all who have relocated to this beautiful city, you won't be disappointed.

Thanks, Charles. Those are exactly some of the reasons we chose this wonderful city. We have not seen anything in our first three days that leads us to question our decision, but the winds have been a bit higher than expected! :D
It's amazing how many of our northern friends asked specifically about hurricanes! It was almost as though the hurricanes sneak up on you in the middle of the night and wipe you out with no warning!!! No, friends, that's what tornadoes do and we got plenty of them up there. ;D ;D ;D
Welcome !! :)
