You guys remember a long while back there was a discussion about the lights on top of the BofA Tower. Well, I met the head maintenance guy at the BofA Tower, who works for the Parmenter Group. I asked him about the lights. He told me that the lights had basically run their life and all the parts need to be replaced, because of rust, corrision, etc. He told me that they are actually considering installing LED lights that change colors. I told him the BofA Tower is Jacksonville's tallest and it should be lit like every other BofA Tower in any US city. Let's keep our fingers crossed.
LED lights would be the best choice for them as they should last about 100,000 hours at least.
^ and they use 1/10 of the power. The problem is that they are still pretty pricey.
I would love to see the tower re-lit. Its a shame its beem dark for so long.
I'd feel better about a trio of big searchlights that played back and forth all night long... The Eternal search for the German Heinkel Bombers.

Okay, maybe the sun IS a big severe here in Texas, but after making the joke, I started thinking about a WWII monument and by golly maybe there is something here? Let's see, sidewalk wall, statues, and lights above...Go BOA!

For building lighting ideas, just look at Hong Kong's skyline...

I wonder what the JEA bill on that would be?
I certainly will be glad to see them back on,thanks for the info
Thanks for the update. LED is the way to go, lots of other cities are switching over which helps my moral compass stop spinning cause I do loves me some purty lights as much as I hate the energy wastes that xmas tree skylines create.
Wow; wasn't even aware that they were out; so they've rusted out and deterioriated from weather, etc. Well, we need to get them back on and soon; signature tower and Jax's tallest needs to be sittin pretty in the skyline for all to see!

This also sounds like the LED lights the city had on the Main St bridge. It sure would be nice to see those repaired. They somehow got moisture in them.
I think that they shoould put a (100 foot) Spire on top of it with one light.
do it, do it now!

Is there enough room at the top of that point to put a spire, antennae, etc.? I don't think so; they possibly might need to cut a lower portion of the pyramid off in order to do that I think; or take the pyramid off, add a flatter top with more height, and then add the spire(s).

Good luck removing that. The HVAC and elevator penthouses are contained within the pyramid. I noticed on a cold morning, steam coming from the tip of the pyramid, so that what is inside of it. It actually ahs a use besides looks alone.
I think LED lights that change colors and could do crazy lighting schemes, sort of like xmas lights.
Perhaps they could light the tip of the pyramid like the Luxor in Vegas.
That'd actually be pretty cool looking.

I thought it was empty but I was wrong; I guess elevator machinery housing, a/c's, etc. is normally on the roof top of most buildings; and BOA is no exception.

My favorite city that I have been to...
Any updates or discussion?
I can't believe I dug this up from last year.
if i recall correctly, i had read they applied and recieved approval to add signage to the top of the building as well, not sure what happened with that
Please don't disgrace this very bold building with a BOA sign!
Where are they going to put it then?
i'll see if i can find the article again, i belive the signage was going to go into the indentations towards the top of the building, they were requesting that they be larger than what the city currently allows due to the building being taller and needing larger signage in order for it to be visable
When the tower was built, I had assumed Barnett logos would go into the indentations because they would've fit, more or less. A BOA sign would look ridiculous.
Just light the top and forget about the signage.
The building is so dark at night you hardly know its there...
Where are you BofA???

Just spoke to the property manager of the BofA Tower and again asked about the lights. She said they were trying to be green. I said, "you can do better than that". She then told me to contact the owners of the tower. So this tower is going to stay dark. Sad!

That last shot of the Landing, BOA and Modis buildings is awesome.
I also would like to see the lights come back on at the top of the BOA building, plus the main street bridge, and JEA which has been dark for some time. I know times are lean and people are trying to save on costs and energy, but these are small contributors to an uninviting downtown and stymie progress in my humble opinion. I'm an adherent to the expression the devil is in the details.
Justin, thanks for the info. I just sent them an e-mail. Lets get everyone to do the same. Thanks, Shane

LED doesn't use that much energy, not to mention at the top of the buiding you could put them on a seperate system and solar power them.

QuoteThe Bank of America lights are coming back on. The lights at the pyramid peak of the downtown building were on each night for the building's first 15 years or so, said Jenny Wilkes, the property manager. But nine or 10 years ago, maintenance costs got too high and peak stayed dark. But now new LEDs have been installed, she said, and they'll be turned on at 9 p.m. Saturday.
This thread is almost exactly six years old from the last post, so about time for some good news. The BOA Tower lights will be turned on this Saturday. A positive move for the new owners in my opinion.
Wow...about freaking time...it's the small things for Jacksonville....haha
Great news!

Awesome!! Lighting and signage is great, but 35k sq ft being leased and an entire exec team relo to Jax is the real story!
But yeah, the lighting and signage is cool too. 8)
Pretty cool news...both BOA and Ameris Bank!
Lighted green strips, from the bottom of the pyramid, on all four corners all the way down to street level would be cool too. Make sure y'all get some pics of those new LED lights; should be awesome on the pyramid.

For real. Great news! Jax has always been a banking center and with Deutche, Everbank, and more joining, this is a good sign that may continue even 15 years after Barnett.
So stoked to see this! It's a shame our tallest building has been so dark for so long.
Its a start. Got to improve those vista shots for primetime TV. Networks have been using dated stock footage.

Not that this will make them update their shots. I saw on the Weather Channel recently a picture of the Jacksonville skyline with the "Independent Life" building front and center. How long ago was that, twenty years?
Why should they update their photos?
Sadly, nothing has really changed in the northbank skyline in 20 years except signage.

How would you like to watch a sports event on TV and they show a night overhead video of the city and the biggest sign says "MODIS".
Just saying, if we are making changes, let the world see it.

Statement says Northbank, which is true!
Well a good chunk of the Northbank's towers are empty. We got hit pretty hard with the consolidation and merger of local banks and insurance giants during the 1980s and 1990s. We'll have to fill up that space first. With that said, the Hyatt and Berkman 1 are the two Northbank highrises built within the last 20 years.
They are definitely getting ready for this BOA lighting. The overwhelming majority of the interior lights were on Friday night.
Is it on yet?
^^^Yup, I just saw the lit BOA on actionnews.
Awesome news.
Please let me know if anyone sees a pic or video floating around.
It looks good, a nice surprise on my visit back into town. Plus, I noticed every light was on inside the old Barnett Building next door.

Thanks man!
Looks great.
I've been driving through downtown on my way to work this week and I couldn't help but notice that the lights on top of the Bank of America tower are off. I usually pass through downtown around 6:15 a.m. Any idea if they only turn them on for a few hours each night or am I just passing though after they turn off?
They probably turn off at midnight or something. It's pretty common.
When I was living downtown a few months ago I seem to remember most of the lights shutting off around 1-2. Everbanks lights are always on though.

IMO the Ameris signage will be the best signage that Riverplace Tower has ever had (yes, I think it's better than Gulf Life old-schoolers). It goes flawlessly with the tower (red, white, and blue).

The Ameris logo does look attractive on the building...but it is always the Gulf Life Tower to me!
I've been noticing a while now that the BOA lights come on earlier than it used to; The timing in now more in tune with the surrounding lighting of hi rises.
Driving through downtown last night I noticed that lights were turned on at the top of the One Enterprise Center, hopefully the Bank of America building turning its lights back on started a trend because our skyline is way too dark at night.
What skyline? Just playing. I love Jax's skyline but we really need 2 or 3 more 500+ footers (on the north bank); market can't support them right now, but hopefully I get to see some additions like that before I die. (sigh)
