UNF's RPI elevated with its win of the A-Sun Tournament to 166.
Because of this Joe Lunardi of ESPN bracket predictions now has UNF playing #1 seed Duke in the Charlotte Regional.
UNF's predicted slot is going to change several more times as the smaller Div 1 conferences wrap up their tournaments.
Robert Morris upset St Francis Brooklyn in the NEC which favors UNF. SF had an RPI of 161 and RM has an RPI of 190.
This means that UNF "moves up" in the seeding brackets technically as relatively weaker teams win their tourneys.
Another game that can impact the Ospreys bracket is who will win the Big Sky Tournament. 4 teams have a shot and Northern Arizona is the wild card. If they upset and win it, it will move the Ospreys up a notch. At the moment Montana is favored and they have a very strong team thus far.
Manhattan beating Iona for the MAAC title also helped the Ospreys. Manhattan has had a history of being the team who upsets in the first round. A role I would like to see UNF play.
Having the A-Sun finish so soon does leave for some nail biting, but where this sorts out will be interesting.
Can't wait to find out which 4 teams are coming to Jax. I already have my tickets.

It's actually 8. I saw some projections that had UNC and Louisville coming here.
Yeah... it is 8. Here are some relatively accurate projections...
http://espn.go.com/ncb/bracketology
(Given that everything is accurate with that Bracketology link) Yes, no play in game for UNF!!! Too bad UNF will be in Charlotte and not Jax; That would've been ideal if they played in Jax.
I am torn between hoping UNF can climb to a #15 seed or hoping they can be the first #16 to upset a #1. Their chances increase dramatically if they're a #15, but they'd be etched forever in the history books if they win as a #16. A victory is a longshot either way (As is receiving a 15-seed anyway)

That would've caused plenty of outcry, as the top seeds are supposed to stay as close to home as possible. Only chance would've been if some school from Florida was a #1 seed, then perhaps you could allow UNF to stay at "home" also.
Unless Miami can do some major damage in the ACC tourney, it looks like UNF might be the only team from Florida to make the NCAA bracket.

GO UNF.....good times
The NCAA makes its formal selections for the brackets tomorrow.
With certain losses it is creating a great deal of bracket shifting in the predictions.
Virginias move down the bracket is causing changes for UNF. Previously aligned against Duke, they have now been shifted to play Wisconsin in the West Region.
This is predicated Wisconsin can maintain its new #1 seeding after playing Michigan State tomorrow just before the brackets come out. If MSU defeats Wisconsin in the B10 final, this may shift the seedings again and send UNF back to the East Region.
The CBS Studio Analyst made a long mention of not taking "the Atlantic Sun for granted" today. As he put it, "they should not under estimate North Florida due to previous wins by Mercer and FGCU"
^You're giving a lot of credence to what the analysts are predicting the selection committee will do. They really have no idea precisely how a lot of seedings will be, even assuming everything goes as expected with all the remaining conference tourney titles...
But indeed, considering how little the members likely have followed UNF, it bodes well how the A-Sun has performed in recent years.

Joe Lunardi's Bracketology (which is what I use as a source) is dynamic and predictive. Whereas the committee looks at a body of work right up to the decision day. Therefore, winners and losers of their conference tourneys do have an impact on seedings and selections right up to bracket day.
With many years to looks back on now, people have gotten better at handicapping the selection committee. But its not perfect and usually there is some surprise or snub every year that gets people talking.
The "snub" team this year will be Murray State who got upset by Belmont in the OVC Tourney. The surprise team will be some team barely creeping in the Big Ten. Probably Purdue.
The hardest part every year for the selection committee is what to do with mid-majors who have great records, win their regular season, but are upset in their tourney. Great body of work perhaps, but didn't cut it when it mattered the most.
USA TODAY brackets predict UNF will be in a play in game in the Midwest regional against Manhattan. The winner plays Kentucky.
CBS was taking a different tack saying the A-Sun has proven it value and shouldnt be seeded in play in games anymore. However if it was FGCU that might be the case. They beat 2 high RPI schools this year, where as UNF beat just 1.
UNF matches up better against Villanova and Virginia. The rest are tougher.
Should be interesting where they land.
My guess is UNF ends up in Dayton but you get a shot at winning one there. Just want to avoid UK.
UNF vs Robert Morris in Dayton for the play-in game. The winner plays Duke in Charlotte.
I'm done with the NCAA

Tell me about it, the selection committee is a complete load of crap.
Getting Duke is a good draw for UNF if they win the play in game. Not going to win the 1-16 matchup either way, but at least when you play Duke you get a lot more media coverage and higher national viewership. Plus playing against Duke is very special in itself.
In the ESPN bracket special they didnt even mention UNF by name, just said "Duke in the next round".
CBS Sports at least said Duke will defeat Robert Morris in the first round.
But its OK. They did the same thing to FGCU. When they predicted Georgetown to reach the round of 16 without so much as an afterthought 2 years ago.
I see that the mid-majors are all getting #8 seeds in the NIT.
Maybe it's just me, but conference winners shouldn't have to do the play in game.
Local action starts at Veterans Memorial Arena Thursday afternoon at 1:40pm. I'm ready!
Four games on Thursday. 1st session Xavier vs BYU or Ole Miss at 1:40pm. Baylor vs GA State about 30 min after 1st game ends (my guess would be about 4:10pm). 2nd session N. Carolina vs Harvard at 7:20pm followed by Arkansas vs Wofford. 3rd session Saturday, start time TBD. Times via Ticketmaster.
I hate that they won't release saturday game times until friday. Makes it hard to plan. I have people coming in to town and if they get here in time we can go to the game, but we won't know until Friday.
I know what you mean. My son has a baseball game at 1 on Saturday. If the games are in the evening, I can go.

It's too bad that Gus Johnson doesn't work for CBS anymore - would love to hear him on the broadcast as UNF upsets Duke in the tourney.
Per the JBJ:
NCAA bringing records crowds to Jax.....but no amenties noticed.
The NCAA tournament opened with dramatic upsets that left many brackets busted – and re-busted – as the NCAA estimated fewer than 1 percent were still intact after Thursday. It's not called March Madness for no reason.
In Jacksonville, fans were on the edge of their seats – especially for the first three games. The big draw: The North Carolina Tar Heels, who thrilled the crowd with a 67-65 win over Harvard University Crimson.
"North Carolina filled up half the stadium tonight," said Craig Pojol, 59, a retail business owner from Louisiana whose been attending NCAA tournament games for 20 years. "When you get regional teams or all the (lower) seeds together you're always going to have bigger crowds."
For Jacksonville, the event was a chance to showcase the city; it's the third time it's hosted games since 2006. "I think it definitely puts the city on the map," said Pujol's son, Nick, a high school algebra teacher and assistant basketball coach, who in the last three years has traveled to St. Louis, Austin and Memphis for the tournament.
"I had no idea where the University of North Florida was before I came down here and realized that it was in Jacksonville."
One issue: a lack of Downtown amenities.
"We went down to the Landing, but it was dead. It was kind of strange," said Minh Luu, 29, a banker from Louisiana. "My first impression was that they built it when Jacksonville first hosted the Super Bowl. The only place to eat was Hooters. I'm not complaining...I'm just saying."
Whether we like or not. The Landing is the one "iconic" place that visitors will go to when they visit Downtown. It's best if something is done to make the place attractive again and if is chain restaurants so be it. I would be curious if local places like BG, Chomp Chomp saw any of the basketball crowds.

It think it depends more on the type of crowd that came to the games. I don't watch college basketball at all, so I wasn't following this, but if the main demographic is the college kids, then they're going to find the trendy places using apps and asking around. If it's their parents, then they're still probably looking for Ruby Tuesday and well.... Hooters, then they're going to be disappointed and wonder why the 'only places to eat' are at the Town Center that is so far away and why the cabs are hard to find and $60+ round trip.
Duke beat Robert Morris 85-56. That should've been our Ospreys that got blown outta the arena by Duke!!! :( ;)
Staff at Marks said they had pretty good game related crowd Thursday night that kept wandering by in waves with many stopping, drinking. Most of the folks in town for this are boosters not students so if we had several chain restaurants DT or near the arena they would be happy.

More or less the point I was making.
And without driving people to any specific restaurant save some advertising money coming their way, is there any marketing in place to drive these people towards our districts that are in close proximity, be it 5-points, Avondale or San Marco?
We have some killer options nearby, and even downtown, but Yelp, Urban Spoon et al are all hit and miss in larger cities which turns people off altogether, so I'd like to think that something is in front of the guests to give them a reason to venture out a few miles without going to the nearest Applebees.
Wisconsin buries Arizona in second half three's 8)
VERY good championship game right now!!!
Yes, indeed!
I was rooting for Wisconsin (because I hate the trifecta NC, KY, and Duke) oh well they put up a good fight. That out of bounds call 'on WIS' down the stretch was turrrible. You can clearly see on the replay that it hit the Duke player's finger. The officials have been screwing up all throughout the tourney.
What a ride! Looked to me like Wisky ran out of gas after beating North Carolina... Arizona... and Kentucky. Duke was a bridge too far...
Even though I don't like Duke, I gotta give it to Jacksonville's Grayson Allen from Providence High; He was ballin'.
Congrats Lexington, KY on getting your new NBA franchise....7 Kentucky Wildcats are leaving for the NBA.

nice!
lol i can imagine that they called a team meeting and made the decision together. Exactly opposite of the Gators '06 championship team. Not trying to suggest that the Gators players were any more righteous or anything, just a funny juxtaposition. Would have been hilarious if they made a big celebratory announcement that they were all leaving together, as a team!
