QuoteNORTH LAUDERDALE -- Tired of what they say is mistreatment by the State government, the North Lauderdale City Commission is pushing a resolution that would split Florida into two separate states - North and South.
North Lauderdale city leaders say South Florida contributes more tax dollars to the State than they're getting back and are unable to meet all the needs of tax payers.
The commission is trying to rev up support by sending out hundreds of resolutions to other South Florida cities and the Miami-Dade, Monroe, Broward and Palm Beach counties.
The resolution will be up for discussion Wednesday at the City of Margate commission meeting.

Where would the split be?
Maybe this is a good thing - we're never on the same page as south Florida anyway.
this was tried a long time ago and failed. i think it would see the same result. my guess is that it would fall along the same lines of GA trying to take a small chunk of modern day TENN due to long-ago-claimed water rights.
Oh my ... if the North Lauderdale City Commission is throwing their weight behind this agenda, we'd better watch out!! ;)
South Florida... HA! HA! HA! They could claim to be the Northern most point in Latin America and then ask the World Bank for aid!

OMG. The bible says a state of rebellion will be the sign of the next coming of Christ. It just had to be Florida oh God.
If they were divided into North Florida and South Florida, would UNF and UF duke it out for the title of University of North Florida?
Why stop with north and south. Why not go with west too? I mean really what good does Tallahassee Florida do for the rest of the state execpt give all their attention to South Florida. I say North Florida should include, Pensacola, the Florida Keys, Orlando, and NE Florida minus the westside. West Florida gets the West Side of Jacksonville to just past Tally.
I can understand this. You know as soon as you cross I-4 you leave the South and your back up North. It drives me nuts trying to go to Central or South Florida and try to order a sweet tea. They look at you like you're an idiot!! When I found out that TGIFriday's has sweet tea down there, I freaked!!
South of I-4 is my old stomping grounds. You can get sweet tea just about anywhere down there. Those regions are just more culturally diverse, which is a good thing when it comes to getting different types of ethnic foods.

Isn't it ironic. A little to ironic. But, I just found out that Texas (I know this isn't the Texas thread your honor, but it's relavent just give me a little leeway), reserved the right to split into 5 states whenever they joined the union. My question is, given that states had or maybe gave up that right, did Florida?

Wow - what a bunch of crap. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black
If everyone in South Florida moved to Jax then they too would have a hand in the pot.

What this cartoon fells to depict is the illegal immigrants in South Florida taking all our tax dollars to pay for their kids to go the school and so they all can get free healthcare, as well as not actually paying taxes themselves.
Oh we don't have illegals in North Florida. Oh.
hey, like they dont have rednecks in South Florida? The point is we're all in this together and we all have are problems.
Then after they split in two they can split from the everglades no revenue there. No matter how you divide it if you then compare the two halves one will generate more and one less.
After Jax gets it's port deals, steals the rest of the cruise ship industry and gets our commuter rail we will want to split off on our own. OK thats not realistic but growth in the state seems to be shifting a little north.

Maybe they should become a part of Cuba; and after they have their freedoms squashed, and the whole area becomes 90% Latin, they'd (Americans living there) would be trying to move back to the real Florida.
This is the supidist most ludicrous thing I've ever heard of! And yeah, some Yankee from up North, some lain brain Yankee, is the one that probably came up with this idea along with one of their (in all due respect) cuban friends.

to be completely accurate its actually the other way around.
When they work illegaly, they have to pay all the same taxes out of their paychecks, but they can never get a tax refund, and they cant claim any of the ssi, social security or unemployment that those taxes are supposed to pay for.
and how do they pay taxes? They're illegal. They get paid under they table. Isn't that the beauty of being an illegal immigrant? They get the American way of life but dont have the same responsibilties as you and me.

You’re assuming a lot there. 1st. you’re assuming that I or others share the same responsibility as you. Drug dealers and other shady characters including most politicians don’t pay taxes. Next, the tax shelter was one of corporate America's biggest hidden profit centers in recent years. Shelters have become so lucrative that some experts estimate as much as $50 billion is lost to the U.S. Treasury each year. And ordinary taxpayers wind up footing the bill.
There is an SSN which some illegal use on their tax return hoping that by paying in they will get special treatment. I think $50 million was reported on that number in 2000.
So, as far as I’m concerned tax the hell out of South Florida to North Florida’s betterment.

I doubt that the majority are paid above the table. But then again, neither of us has provided evidence for our statements.

Let's not waste our time on and resources on South Florida, what we need to do is invade/take over the golf and all those oil platforms.
