The victims in the 2012 killings, Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado, were shot to death as they sat in a car in Boston's South End on July 16. Police have said they were shot by someone who drove up alongside in an SUV with Rhode Island license plates and opened fire.
At a news conference Thursday announcing the indictment, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel Conley said that the victims were "ambushed and executed" as they drove home and that Hernandez was the gunman.
"For us, this case was not about Aaron Hernandez. This case was about two victims, who were stalked, ambushed and senselessly murdered on the streets of the city they called home," Conley said.
Conley says Hernandez and the victims had an encounter in a night club that evening, and authorities have said Hernandez was seen on surveillance footage in the club the night of the attack. Conley also said authorities recovered the car and weapon Hernandez allegedly used.
Conley said reports tied Abreu and Furtado to gang activity could not be further from the truth.
Hernandez is expected to be arraigned next week.

I'm surprised he was convicted of Murder 1 since the most damning evidence had been tossed out previously. Most legal eagles commenting on this seemed to think this trial was his best shot to beat any major charges. Wonder if he just pleads out the rest of the cases in order to avoid the death penalty.
Don't think Massachusetts has the death penalty.
^^^Yup, Mass doesn't have it. Of course the Boston Bombing case is Federal, which is why the death penalty can come into play. Hernandez is gonna be housed only 1.5 mile away from Gillette Stadium; So close, yet so far away.

It is interesting that no fingerprints, no murder weapon, and an unclear motive gets you a conviction. I bet this sucker winds up a case study in law school in the future.

I believe even the prosecution said "this case is based entirely on circumstantial evidence"....
I guess enough circumstantial evidence can be built for the average human to believe something 'beyond all reasonable doubt'...
I'd bet public perception and media played a huge part in the average jurors subconscious.
