Title: Regency area Olive Garden destroyed by fire.
Post by: pierre on January 27, 2014, 05:49:56 AM
Not a culinary destination for me but you have to feel for the employees who are out of a job.

QuoteJACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Fire crews are on the scene of smoke billowing from the roof of a Jacksonville restaurant. JFRD reports it received a call to the Olive Garden on Atlantic Boulevard, across from Regency Mall, around 2:40 a.m.

Fire crews said the restaurant is a total loss.

I would think Darden Corp. is self insured for this type of thing so they might decide not to rebuild.

I'd be very surprised if they didn't rebuild. They announced last week they were going to do a $60,000 renovation to this location. I'm on my phone so I can't look it up right now. That place is ALWAYS packed, I would say even busier than Southside.

Well we know where the got the $60,000 from ;)

On a more serious note

QuoteOlive Garden is renovating its Regency area restaurant. Contractor Big Service Inc. is providing interior and exterior accessibility upgrades, at 2,500 square feet, at a project cost of $60,000.

The city also has been reviewing plans for renovations for the 6050 Youngerman Circle restaurant, considered the Orange Park location, and the 10144 Philips Highway store, in The Avenues area.

Olive Garden has said the three are being considered for remodeling. The Regency, Orange Park and Avenues restaurants were built in 1990-91.

Building a total loss - Will create work for the people who get to tear it down and rebuild though.

Someone please lift this curse from Regency! It seems like that area can't get a break! :(

The good news is they can start from scratch and add the new design into the build. I would think that would almost be easier than renovating an existing structure trying to work around crowds, etc.

Hopefully they rebuild the Tuscan Farmhouse style in its place!  Jacksonville needs a better looking Olive Garden already.

Maybe this will encourage them to update Orange Park and the Avenues as well.

So, this is what it's like when they finally run out of endless salad and breaksticks.

If it's rebuilt, I'll expect something like RCMP's, nothing too fancy; Which would be okay with me.

It's pretty stunning how busy that location is. I assume they will rebuild and do it rather quickly.

I always was under the impression that a total loss isn't salvageable. I obviously was wrong, as that's specifically a 'constructive total loss'. Man I love wiki, you learn something new everyday. :)

Poor Olive Garden, it looks like they had a fire in Monroe just 5 days ago (on the 22nd). They said they hope to be open by the end of the year! That's an awfully long time:

QuoteWith help from other Darden restaurants in Monroe, we are offering job support to all of the team members impacted by yesterday's fire. Our goal is to re-open at the end of the year and our current Olive Garden team members will be welcomed back! Thank you to the Monroe community for their continued support!

They haven't said if the Regency one will be rebuilt:
Quote"We are extremely thankful no one was inside the restaurant at the time of the fire and we appreciate the efforts of all the first responders involved and are grateful they are all safe," Olive Garden said in a statement. "Right now, the well-being of our team members is our number one priority. With help from other Olive Garden locations as well as other Darden restaurants in Jacksonville, we will offer job placement support to all of the employees who were affected."

There are three other area Olive Garden restaurants, and other Darden restaurants that may take in the 100 employees are Red Lobster, Longhorn, Bahama Breeze, Seasons 52 and Capital Grille.

A spokesman said there was no word on plans to rebuild the 24-year-old restaurant.

It probably depends upon the revenue position of this particular store in relation to the other producers.

I spoke to an employee of this restaurant shortly after the fire. She stated that they had just received an award for being the most profitable store in their region.

That's good news, I'd like to hear what their plans are and I bet their employees would too.
I just can't see them not rebuilding it.

I heard someone say they were going to rebuild so I tried to look it up. It looks like they're going to rebuild. A lot of people are going to be happy about this:

QuoteCall Box has heard from almost a dozen people wanting to know if the popular Italian restaurant is going to rise from the ashes.

...

We spoke with Hunter Robinson, communications manager for Olive Garden, and he confirmed that the chain intends to rebuild the restaurant at 9465 Atlantic Blvd. The corporate office in Orlando also has heard from residents eager for its return, Robinson said.

"We're very close to committing to move forward," Robinson said. "We're still working through some of the logistics. We're a couple of months away from being more specific."

As yet, there is no timetable. Since the restaurant was one of the older locations, it will be updated to a more modern version of Olive Garden, he said.

It looked like it was gonna collapse when I saw it yesterday. It was a good draw for the area so I do hope they get it back running.

Family member has been with Darden for a long, long, time. He said this was absolutely one of the top performing stores in their chain and there are plans to rebuild.

The Regency Olive Garden will be getting a prototype design that's' smaller and more modern.

Ribbon cutting ceremony on the 20th:

QuoteThe Olive Garden restaurant that was destroyed in a fire in January 2014 across from the Regency Square Mall on Atlantic Boulevard is set to re-open this month.

Fire destroys Arlington Olive Garden

A ceremonial ribbon cutting will be held on April 20th at 10:30 AM at the restaurant. 15 employees who worked at the restaurant before it was destroyed by the fire will return.

Olive Garden officials say the new restaurant will employ 150 people and can accommodate more than 240 diners at a time.

Glad to see they're re-opening, it was a very popular location.

Smaller? That location was always packed! They should be going with a larger footprint for the rebuild.

Nice to see not all businesses fleeing Regency because of a bad perception of the area. I used to go to the Regency area all the time while I lived in Springfield. Never had any issues.
