Title: Got Jaguar tickets?
Post by: fieldafm on March 23, 2012, 08:17:27 AM
I love this team and I love this town.

One of the great decisions of my life has been to become a Jaguars season ticket holder.

I want you to share that same experience with me, and I'll put my money where my mouth is to make it happen.

So here is my offer.... buy season tickets from me(I get no financial compensation out of the deal) and I will treat you to dinner at a locally-owned restaurant AND you will get entered into a drawing to win a mini helmet signed by Paul Posluszny or an authentic 'Duke' football signed by Maurice Jones Drew.

This is in addition to the Teal Deals booklet you receive, as well as the Jaguars Rewards program(additional discounts around town) and being able to participate in the Jaguars Advantage program (you get either cash back or a credit on your tickets just for using your existing credit card for purchases, a new credit card is not required).

Nothing is better than high fiving your best friend at the stadium when Josh Scobee kicks a 60 yarder to win the game.  It's an awesome feeling when you literally FEEL the roar of the crowd when pulling off a major upset on national tv when all the pundits
on tv are telling you how impossible it is.  There is nothing better than seeing a miraculous Hail Mary pass to win the game.  Come experience the feeling you get when you smell the first hot dogs hit the grill at the start of the season.

So, there's my offer Jacksonville.... who's all in?

I have two seats.  One of them pays for itself.

I made $126 in 'Jag Bucks' to be used at the stadium for concessions and merchandise just for filling up at Gate Gas as part of the Jaguars Rewards program.

I have saved, this year, $495 at local merchants with my Teal Deals coupons... and I actually gave away half my coupons b/c I didn't use them all.

I have saved $60 around town just by presenting my Jaguars Reward card to various merchants (like $2 off every time I get a haircut)

I also got a credit on my season ticket account of $45 for participating in the Jaguars Advantage program.

That's $726 in real money I have either gotten back or saved, just for going to a football game.

I feel sorry for the fans who had to watch our hail mary touchdown for the win 2 years ago on TV.  There is absolutely no comparison to the feeling of being in the stands and hearing the crowd erupt.  Or the flyovers.  Or the beer guy.  Or the drumline.  Or the t-shirt cannon.  Or the "move them chains" on first down chant.

You get the picture.

The hail mary was the funniest moment for me at the stadium.. I was at the other end of the stadium, and the eruption of cheering was like a wave that started in the north endzone, and quickly (like a fraction of a second) made it to Section 150.  I was jumpin up and down yelling "We Won????  We Won???  We did win!!!!"

The best was the 59 yd Field Goal to beat Manning was pretty hard to top.  Hell, any play you see live is 100 times better than watching it on TV.

I have to agree with everyone! before 2009 I was not even a football fan. I did not even watch NFL football period. I went to my first game in 2010 and I will say it was by far the best experience of my life. Yeah the titans blew us out on MNF, but just the stadium experience was amazing and over whelming. I dont understand the " If they are losing Im not buying tickets" mindset. Win or lose, its a great experience. I actually felt bad that I had been in Jacksonville my entire life and missed out on everyone. Back when we first got the team I was in high school and I was also working. I could have witnessed the epic beatdown we gave miami in person. But I was just in another world. I soley regret it, but Im glad that I have seen the light. Will always keep my season tickets.

I know how you feel.  I'm not in Jacksonville, but I didn't get my season tickets until 2008.  Even being 600 miles away, as soon as I went to a game I very much wished I had gotten them much sooner.

And you're right, that Titans game was electric despite the big loss.

The new discounted tickets for kids and Kids Club are great promotions.  I already have my best buddy's son in the Kids Club and will add his daughter as soon as they turn 6.  I've been indoctrinating them since they were tiny.  Hopefully they will get to go to their first game this fall.

Our capacity even with the tarps in place is 67,246.  That's no embarrassment for a market this size, or really, any size.  11 stadia have smaller capacity, including Chicago, Pittsburgh, Detroit, and Indianapolis; and many others seat just a few thousand more.  Almost all the league's stadia are in the 65,000-71,000 range.

With the tarps off the stadium holds 77,000+ and only about five or six NFL stadia hold that many (Dallas, Washington, Giants/Jets, Denver, KC).  The smallest market of any of the 75,000+ stadium cities is Kansas City (which seats about 78,000), and that's a metro area with about 700,000 more people than Jacksonville has.

Though a lot of ignorant sportswriters laugh about the tarps, having a 67,000 seat stadium in a 1.3 million person market is nothing to be ashamed of.  I understand wanting them gone because I'm tired of having to explain them to people who think we have a much smaller stadium or cover many more seats than we do, but it'd be awfully difficult to sell 77,000 seats a game even if the whole world went Jaguar-crazy.

Two seats in section 216. I'm so glad that the overall atmosphere will be about Jaguar football as usual, and not the circus environment that would've been eminent if 'you know who' would've came here.

Actually it is quite impressive. For a market our size to average between 62,000-67,000 over the past 7 years ( I looked at the attendance dating back to 2005.), our attendance is actually awesome. If our stadium only had a capcity of 65,000, nobody would be saying a word about our attendance. People with common sense know our stadium is too big for our market and it is not realistic to sell it out ( although we have back in our hey day). I wonder why they are going to say when Miami does the same thing. The Miami Herald stated the Dolphin's are looking to "reduce capcity" to help their "attendance issue". They are the ones that should be ashamed honestly. Their market is enormous and nobody wants to go the games.

Didn't the Raiders have the same problem in LA with the Coliseum being as big as it was?
Title: Re: Got Jaguar tickets?
Post by: Wacca Pilatka on March 24, 2012, 02:11:03 PM
The Raiders had many problems in LA.  First, the Coliseum was enormous as you said - I think its NFL capacity was 92,000.  It was also deteriorating and by the early 90s, it was clear that it was not NFL-caliber despite its size.  Finally, and most importantly, LA fans really didn't show up to the games even though the Raiders were generally a .500 or better team.  They often drew less than 50,000 and didn't sell out except for playoff games and big in-season event games (MNF, rivalry games where both the Raiders and the rival were having winning seasons, etc.).  Even if the stadium had 70,000 seats instead of 92,000 they would've avoided blackouts less than half of the time.

Great offer mike.  Original season ticket holder.  Have had 4 since the beginning.  Have 2 more in a box since they opened that a few years ago.

The sad thing about our stadium is that it was built for 1 game, Florida/Georgia.  The tarps are such a ridiculous thing to ridicule.  Focusing on removing the tarps is a horrible idea.  It's pie in the sky, theme park crazy talk.  It detracts so much energy and attention from things.  They make the stadium be the capacity it needs to be.  When we do a new stadium, this needs to be taken into serious consideration.  Build it in a way that allows additional seats to be added when needed, but diminish seating capacity overall.

But you only need 55,000 to lift the blackout. And unless the Steelers or Jets or Packers come to town, it seems we never really ever "fill" the stadium to the 67,246 number.

Agreed. There were two or three games in particular that were rather thin. The bucs game and the texans were two. There are people who buy tickets and stay home. I have season tickets and did not go to the bucs game. It was cold, wet and the team sucked. I felt like it wasnt worth my time to risk getting the flu. Of course after the final score I kicked myself not going. LOL

Im glad the gauge is not there. Im tired of Jacksonville worrying about tickets tickets ticekts. Thats all the local media talks about. Its time to move beyond that. We havent had a black out since 2009. But to answer your question, they havent gaev any numbers, but they said that the renewals are ahead of last year.

PS can also do group sales if you and a few buddies want tickets for a specific game.

I think I've completely blocked it from my mind, so can someone please refresh my memory:

What in the hell happened during that 2009 season?

I'm putting together a pretty detailed regression analysis (based on Jaguars attendance) for a course I'm taking, and man are those first six games of that incredibly dark season wreaking havoc on my model.

Since the tarps went up before the 2005 since until present day, we've been swimming along in the same loose 60,000 to 65,000 range that we all know so well.

Except for those first six regular season games of 2009, where we averaged TWENTY THOUSAND less than the previous season's average.

A third of the crowd just seemed to disappear overnight.

When you look at all the attendance data together, man does this stretch ever stick out.

Theories on why this happened?

The recession didn't exactly exist in a bubble only during this six game stretch, there had to have been other factors at play.

On a positive, current day note, I cannot wait for the damn season to begin already.

All of the early football talk makes me feel like the seasn should be starting next week.

So long to wait :/

Two things happened, Ken:  the economy and the disappointing 2008 season.

If you'll remember, in 2007, the Jags went to the playoffs.  They beat the Steelers twice at home - something I believe no other team has ever done.  So in 2008, there were big expectations.   The next year, the team imploded, and I believe went 7-9.   That year, I think was the beginning of the end for Jack Del Rio.

The other factor was the economy going into the toilet.   The downturn in Florida was worse than in most other places.

As a result of both factors, close to 20,000 season ticket holders failed to renew.

The silver lining from that awful year is that Touchdown Jacksonville was born, and there was a real grassroots effort to sell tickets.

Attendance for the last two home games of the 2009 season were against the Dolphins and the Colts.   The Dolphins brought a lot of people up for that game.  Touchdown Jacksonville was created with the goal of selling enough tickets for that final home game against the Colts to lift the blackout.

Another problem is that the TV experience is so damn good now.  Why go to the stadium when I have HD at home and the Redzone?  Niners are the team of my youth, why shouldn't I take the kids to the beach and then catch the late matches on the Redzone?

I had PSLs when I lived in Charlotte for the Panthers, but what else was I gonna do in the fall?  There was no damn beach and the slopes weren't open yet.

If you look around leauge wide, ticket sales are way down. Even the dolphins are considering tarps to reduce their capacity and the Redskins reduced their capacity for a second time in a row. The economy coupled with the awesome television experience is why people are choosing to stay home. Large NFL stadiums are just not fesiable anymore. People are not going to games like they used to. They see it as, why a buy a ticket that I really cant afford, when I can sit at home with HD and surround sound? No parking, no people, no heat. etc. That is why the NFL just renewed some phat TV contracts. That is where the revenue is coming in at now.

I thought Touchdown Jacksonville was created to bring an NFL franchise to Jacksonville. Or did they re-use the name for something new?

Edit: I Googled it and see that they revived the organisation and gave it a new mandate.

That article is notable for showing the original, ugly-ass Jaguars jersey.

Thanks for the info guys!

Also.

The NFL needs to abolish the asinine blackout rule.

It is ridiculously and unfairly punitive toward small markets, whose citizens are forced to carry so much more per capita ticket obligation than giant MSAs.

yes, I wasn't implying it was a JAX only problem.  My father-in-law just goes to Panther games now when given tickets by clients, he no longer cares to buy them since I've moved down here.

Why would they cut off their own head to allow lazy MFSOB's to sit at home and watch games? Abolish it, hell, they might as well play the games in Pakistan.

QuoteThe NFL needs to abolish the asinine blackout rule.

Why would they cut off their own head to allow lazy MFSOB's to sit at home and watch games? Abolish it, hell, they might as well play the games in Pakistan.

Because it is remarkably skewed against smaller market teams.

Approximately speaking:

If one out of every 300 New Yorkers goes to a Giants or Jets game, no blackout will take place.

Roughly one out of every 200 residents needs to head down to Soldier Field to ensure the game is shown on local television.

But if one out of 25 Jacksonville residents shows up at Everbank Field, the game is likely getting blacked out and the city is going to get knocked for lack of support.

Look at NFL blackout numbers over the last few years, and the huge majority are in the smaller NFL markets (Tampa, Cincinnati, Oakland, Kansas City, St. Louis, etc.) where the fans are disproportionately required to carry a way heavier per capita ticket-buying burden than the large markets.  To me -- all other things held constant -- that is being unfairly punitive to small markets simply because they are small markets.

The biggest myth in the sports world about Jacksonville is that we don't support our NFL team.

That is patently absurd, blackouts or no blackouts.

In 1995 when the Jaguars came into the league, the average NFL stadium capacity to MSA population ratio was between 3 and 3.5%.

We came in and built out a stadium -- foolishly, in my opinion -- at over 8 percent capacity/MSA population ratio.

If the Jaguars would have scaled the stadium to the MSA in the same way the rest of the league did on average, it would have contained a mere 28,000 (!!!) seats, yet there have been seasons like 2004 where we averaged nearly 70,000 a game yet were punished by Daddy NFL with six blackouts.

That is insane.

I buy season tickets because I enjoy the game day, in-person experience.

But in regards to the "lazy MFSOB's who sit at home and watch games," that you reference, if they find something else to do with their Sunday because their local team's games are blacked out and they don't feel like being extorted into buying tickets they really don't want simply because they don't live in a top 10 metro with a dozen Fortune 100s, I can't say I blame them.

Consumer preference for live sports is changing rapidly.

You might not see it in the large markets because the massive populations mask it, but across the board, live attendance is dropping in the smaller markets (with exceptions, but I don't know if OKC would be selling out every game without Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook).

The NFL needs to find a way to adjust quickly (and believe me, small markets will adjust in the future with 50,000-58,000 seat stadiums).

^^ Thats for the research Ken. I agree. But trust me, NFL stadiums period will be getting smaller. The Bears had the right idea. They will never have an attendance issue with the smallest stadium and an enormous market. I just read on NBCsports that Miami is struggling holding on to their 30,000 season ticket holders compared to 60,000 they had only a few years ago, and they are a  huge market. I prefer to go to games, but times are really changing and people have such a good experience at home they would rather not even go to the games. I was telling a friend of mine that I laugh when people say we dont support our team. We have a tiny market and were doing better than the cities with populations twice our size. Its really crazy.

Please start a seperate thread for all of your blackout-related talk.

I am offering to put up my own cash and prizes in order to help sell tickets, please be respectful of that.

This is the last week to sign up for the 30 Game Plan which lets you lock in this season's prices for the next 3 years via an interest-free payment plan.

It is also the last week to take advantage of an 8 month, interest free payment plan for one year season ticket agreements.

If you or someone you know is interested... they can also get a complementary gift certificate to dinner at a choice of locally-owned restaurants and possibly win one of three great prizes of autographed merchandise.

No better deal in town.

Just read where Bob Kraft spent 325 million of his own money in 2002 to build Gilette stadium. If the Jags complain about Everbank, I say, let them build a new stadium with their own money. Khan could do it, but he just made a large purchase of the Jags too, so may be a few years off.

The City should get out of the business of owning buildings, we suck at managing their construction and are so-so on managing the structure.

I'll personally buy you dinner (via a gift certificate to dinner at a locally-owned restaurant).

Any more takers?
