You want the Jaguars to be successful in Jacksonville, here are a few ideas:
1. Host parties on game day at Metro Park, the Landing (they're aching for something going on), or anywhere near the stadium. I'm talking music, fans, beer (for over 21 of course), games, that sort of thing. Let Jacksonville be known for some of the best tailgating parties in the NFL.
2. Win games! Not like it's not a gimme, but everyone knows if you win, they will come. Even the Cowboys' fan attendance is in question at their nice new stadium.
3. Make the black jerseys the official jersey, please! It looks better and the team looks much more dangerous with the black jerseys. Let the teal jerseys be the alternate jerseys.
4. Jaguar-themed sports bars, billboards everywhere, put the Jaguars in people's faces.
5. Reach out to the community somehow. If Green Bay can do it, I know Jacksonville can do it.
Anyone else with ideas, please throw them out.

I agree! WE are doing the black uniforms in 2013. I also had an idea about teal town. They should just level that area and actually build an Teal Town entertainment complex. The mayor had an idea about an ESPN zone. Well, that could be located at Teal Town amoung other things.

Well not really, since I'm living in NC now. Doesn't mean I don't like going to games. Doesn't mean I can't throw out ideas either and if I can catch a game, I am definitely there.
I'm assuming the two big parts of the new president, Mark Lamping, the new president, will be marketing and gameday experience. He's already talked about regionalizing the team. There has been talk about upgrading the sound system as well.
I've said this before. I am grateful to Weaver for getting the team here and building the foundation. But Khan is going to be a bigger thinker. I am excited about the future of this team.
What or where is Teal Town? You're not referring to the lil Pepsi Zone that's at the bottom of the escalators coming down from the Bud Zone are you?
I do love the idea of ESPN Zone. Not only would that be great for the Jaguars but it would be a great addition to Downtown.
I don't think we have a market for an ESPN Zone, but I could be wrong. Although, Jock's & Jill's was in the space now occupied by Bennies, and it was the only true sports bar in the Landing, but that was quite a while ago.
I was pondering the idea of having it built somewhere in the Stadium District. I'm sure it'd probably kill whatever business that sports bar next to the Arena has though.

Almost all the ESPN Zones have closed. The only two left are both in the L.A. area.
Hmm I guess the one in Orlando was rebranded to "ESPN Club". But I guess we were just stuck on the name "ESPN". I could care less if it was ESPN or not. It just would be great to have a great mega sports-bar downtown. Hooters and Chicago Pizza doesn't do it for me.
The game day experience is already awesome. It's reasonably affordable (for an NFL game) and there's no shortage of things to do. We also have the best mascot in the NFL. If you haven't been I would suggest going to a game.
The color of the players shirt won't matter, look how ugly the broncos jerseys are and people still wear that ugly jersey.
I think bottom line is they have to win games. 4/5 years ago the stadium was packed when Garrard was in his 1st year as a starter for us.
Billboards are a good idea (though there are already a few around town), sports bars will come when the fan base gets larger. That's not My Khan's job:)

Yeah I just pondered about the Teal Town thing. I think we should have some type of type of entertainment complzex in the sports district. I mean why not? ON game day, the people that can not afford to go to the game can have a better experience than the now " Teal Town".
And Im going to say this, and I hope this doesnt start a new thread of messages (lol) But khan did mention he wants to the superbowl back in Jacksonville. With that being the case, we will need to have a lot more to offer than we did the last time.

People were understandably concerned when news first broke of the sale of the team, but man, you can really feel the optimism around this city about Khan and what his resources and business acumen can do for this franchise and Jacksonville. Can't wait for football season.
I would suggest having the new owner start with asking JSO/COJ to look at changing the traffic flow off of Bay Street to make it pedestrian friendly.
That and keep Bill Prescott, he is a great asset.

There's a big myth out there that the Jags aren't active in the community; That is totally not true. The players/former players are very active in the community, with many of these charitable good works going unreported. Although not the most highly visible, The Weavers did alot for this community (charity donations etc) So far in Khans short time owning the Jags, he seems more visible than the Weavers. There's no question that the Jags are heavily involved in the community.
The real question is that alot of the corporate community ( local Belks, Dillards etc) needs to start supporting the Jags instead of acting like a college in Alachua County really gives a damn about us in Jax. Belks at Roosevelt has TWO Gator signs, with no Jag, Nole or Bulldog sign in sight! I guess that one Gator sign wasn't enough. I complained to the cashier too. I'm thinking about boycotting these places.

I agree I-10. But Ive come to realize that there are just some people in these that are stuck in the "small town" college mindset. And thats fine. Im okay with the 62,000 fans that attended the games this year, and we will continue to build out fan base from there. We dont need these people who think Jacksonville is a college hick town. I swear 25% of Jacksonville needs to move to Gainesville. LOL

That's for sure, and I can't believe how much goes unreported. If only the T-U (besides Tania, who does good work on this subject) devoted one-tenth the energy to covering Jaguars' charitable work in Jacksonville as it does to covering Tim Tebow's work that has no impact on Jacksonville.
I can't believe the number of Facebook fights I've gotten into with people who think the Jaguars don't do anything in the community. Admittedly, these people often tend or at least seem to be of the "Gators or Tim-first and we wish the Jaguars didn't exist" mentality.
The Jags give back more millions to the community than anyone else. PGA Tour is second, but without them, the city non-profits would be dirt poor. Ask the Sharks how much they contribute back to the city, nice trophy, but how many kids and families have they helped with that trophy?
Well... the Jags also cost the city money. I don't think anyone really knows what the actual numbers breakdown is, but major league sports teams rarely even break even for their cities. So long as we're not just bleeding money at them I'm not complaining - I consider it a quality of life purchase.
As for the college boys, "college hick town" is not a combination of words you hear very often.
And it's not as if there's no college football background here - we have one of the routinely largest bowl games, and Florida-Georgia, one of the city's most exiting weekends, is nearing on 100 years in Jax. And both have been at it since long before the Jaguars.
College and pro football can co-exist in the hearts of the populace. If you don't believe it just visit any sports bar in Ohio or Michigan.

The question is...can they co-exist in Jacksonville. Since the Jaguars inception, there are been this Gator versus Jaguars thing going on, and its mostly with Gator fans. Dont get me wrong, there are college AND NFL football fans in this city. Ive seen several people with one Gator flag and one Jaguar flag on their car. But lets be real, Jacksonville is a big city, that has a "small country town" mindset. How will we ever balance that out is beyond me.
^What I'm saying is that I don't buy that college football fandom is inherently a mark of a "small town" mindset. It's a Southern thing (though obviously not exclusive to the South), but not a "small town" thing. I can assure you there are just as many Gators, Noles, etc. fans in Orlando, Tampa, and Miami as there are in Jacksonville. Just as there are plenty of Ohio State fans in Cleveland, and Michigan/MSU fans in Detroit.
^^^Talk about the corporate community in those places (Tampa Orlando, and Miami). Will you see an exclusive 'single college team section' with no other teams in stores down there like Jax's Dollar General (on Wilson & Lane)? It has a SIZEABLE Gator section with no other teams (college or pro) in sight. I HIGHLY doubt that you would see a college team dominate those FL three cities like the Gators dominates Jax in department stores with biased overbearing signage etc. The other FL metros maintain a 'big city' imagine, not Jax! We are set back forty years with 'our supposed true love' the Florida Gators!!! That make us look hick-towny as f*ck!!! I don't see how any true Jag fan can disagree with me.

It seems to me that most Jag fans are cool with the Gators, as they understand about the long tradition etc. It's the Gators fans that constantly hate, making excuses not to come to the game "I rather watch an exciting winning team" Not so much winning going on down there lately huh? It's like we don't even exist down there in Gainesville; I went to the Oaks Mall down there the other day (after a VA hospital appt, otherwise I would not be seen in that craphole town LOL) with no Jags gear in sight, not even in a hat store!!!But they did have the SD Chargers, because everyone knows about the longstanding SD and G-ville connection.

There is obviously a gator obession here far more than anywhere else in the country aside from Gainesville. IMO, I really dont care about how long the FL/GA has been here. Its good for the city from a financial aspect, but if wasnt for the Jaguars people would still be sayin, " Jacksonville who? Is that even on the map" But we can go on and on all day about this. Do you think Khan will stop the whole ticket gauge thing? I think its time to let it go. The "blackout" paranoia in this city needs to come to an end. The only time it should be mentioned is when were getting close to the deadline and we are short tickets. We have nothing to prove to anybody and its time for the hot topic in Jacksonville to stop being " Jags avoid blackout." Its time to move on. I don't think any other team has a "ticket gauge" on their website. Its time to just handle business and stop trying to prove ourselves to people.
Any thoughts?
Yeah, it's time to put the ticket gauge to rest. With the new era + (hopefully) bringing in some quality draft picks and free agents, I don't foresee any problems with ticket sales atleast for the next few years. Khan has a boatload of money, and we have the highest surplus when it comes to money over the cap, so it will be very hard to not get good playmakers in here.
Maybe WW is more shrewd than we originally thought. Next year is the last year of the original 30/30 plan. The reason we're seeing such a renewal rate is due to the fact that a lot of people entered a contract for 3 years.
IMO, we have to really do something to continue the trend. The optimism is high right now, FA & the draft will either really help or really hurt, but if we can go a game or two into the playoffs next year - take down the meter - until then, let's keep the whale's med staff nearby.

Talk about the Belk's, and the Dillards, and the Macy's down there in TB, ORL, and MIA; Are they all Gatored out like Jax's department stores? I'm NOT talking about the exclusive stores catered for Gator fans; I rather have exclusive Gator stores here (which I obviously would never set foot in anyway) than to forcefeed the Gators down the throats of every major department store in Jax like we live in Gainesville, with the overblown signage, larger Gator sections, and no Jags signage! BTW, Due to disappointing seasons, the Gators, and Jags merchandise has NOT been selling like hotcakes, so no one can use that "Gators are still selling" excuse to justify those larger sections. I HIGHLY doubt that is going on in the other big FL cities, trust me, you'll know that the Magic, Heat, Bucs, Phins etc exist in those cities. I don't understand why you think that I haven't been here (in Jax) for a long time; It's only been 25 years! Just tellin' it like it is, that's all! I'll shut up if you show me two Gator signs in a TB area Dillards with no other sign in sight. Like Duval said, I'm done with this topic. Some people will continue to be in denial no matter what.

One of the greatest contributions you could possibly make to this city is to 'demand' that JTA complete the Skyway to the stadium. It could probably be done for around $40,000,000 million, but it would take the team, the city, and any traffic problems into a whole new era, one not shared by any other location. You have to ask yourself, how many teams or stadium views we get on the weekly network broadcasts that show a monorail train rolling into the arena.
FYI, the Skyway and it's stations are designed for 6 car trains. JTA/COJ owns the rights to build the center cars (which has never been done) Several parking garages and lots between Everbank Field and the stadium could be used to completely change the parking and game access unlike anything in the world. Downtown has over 40,000 parking spaces, including garages at the Omni, Kings Avenue and massive lots at the convention center. The trouble being JTA nor the CITY have such a vision or are willing to make those plans and ask for the grants.
THANK YOU

JTA/COJ owns the rights to build the center cars (which has never been done) Several parking garages and lots between Everbank Field and the stadium could be used to completely change the parking and game access unlike anything in the world. Downtown has over 40,000 parking spaces, including garages at the Omni, Kings Avenue and massive lots at the convention center. The trouble being JTA nor the CITY have such a vision or are willing to make those plans and ask for the grants.
THANK YOU

Amen! Thats all Im saying Ock. Im sure if someone approached him with it, he would be more than willing to open his pocket and help. I wanted to send him a personal email, but cant seem to find one. Anybody know his facebook? I am really serious about this skyway thing. That would really ease game day traffic, and just traffic in general going into the sports district. And would be the ONLY city in the NFL that has a monorail system that drops off at the stadium
Press Tony Khan on Twitter - he's involved & has his dad's ear, I'm sure....

No it's not JAX, but it certainly could be with just a little will power. Note this Moscow Monorail has the 6 car trains.
Tell you what, DUVALDUDE get's it. It's as much about the image of the city as it is passenger demand, and it should be remembered at a station at Bay and Newnan could eventually serve a streetcar/Skyway connection, while adding a jog in the line from the Stadium to the north side of the Arlington Expressway somewhere around Jessie Street/A.P.Randolph would assure a year-round passenger count. During Football season, CEO'S across the country have their TV on and seeing the cameo shots of Jacksonville, and seeing a monorail roll into the stadium/metropolitan park station would knock their socks off. As most have learned from this site, MONORAIL IS NOT THE TRAIN OF THE FUTURE (monorails were invented by Ivan Elmanov in Russia and have easily been around since 1820 - If they were the train of the future, we would have been laying the 'Golden Beam' rather then the Golden Spike) however running across Jessie and connecting the Jail, Maxwell House, ARENA, baseball grounds, Newnan Street/Hyatt would guarantee year round passenger loads.
The point being that since every Tom, Dick and Harry citizen and executive somehow 'know' monorails are somewhere in our future so when they see that image coming exclusively from Jacksonville, it could be a game changer for relocation. You can't count that kind of thing on your trusty abacus. CHA-CHING! You also have to think how much more attractive Jacksonville's sports and Convention complexes would seem with a monorail train every 4 minutes.
OCK.
As busy as the Areana and the Stadium is year round, the demand is there. There only thing Blaylock will complain about is $$$$$$$. If Khan offers to finance along with team, JTA would have no reason to say no. (unless they are on crack) AND with the new proposed convention center, that route would be perfect.
I think the skyway being extended to a stop near the stadium/baseball grounds/arena would be a huge assest.
Also, if an out of towner drove through Jacksonville, and werent an NFL fan they would have no clue that Jax has a professional sports team. No billboards, no paw prints on signs and walls off the interstate, nohing in that matter. Ever been to Pittsburgh? There are Steeler, Pirate, Penguin and PITT logos EVERYWHERE. I think something as simple as teal paw prints on the sound barriers off 95 or something along those lines would be great. Let people passing through know what Jacksonville stands for!
I'm not sure if I can recall ANY Jags merchandise @ the airport, either. Try going to Dallas & missing the Cowboys store(s).......
^And try to find any UNF merchandise anywhere in town besides the college book store.

There is Jags merchandise in the airport. Not enough of a display compared to what you see in any other NFL city's airport, but it is there.

I agree, and miss the days of the huge Jags mural on the side of the Ed Ball building. There are some billboards that recognize the Jags, though. Not just the Jags' own ticket sales billboards, but Bud Light has an "official beer of the Jaguars" sign in a few locations in town (including on 95) and there's still a handful of older billboards for one of the Florida specialty license plates with Joe Zelenka, in uniform, on the sign (one is on 95 northbound, I think south of the Duval-St. John's line). Mojo was on some Winn-Dixie billboards for a while. Turner Pest Control also mentiones the Jags indirectly on its billboard on 95 northbound coming into downtown.
I really like the idea about the sound barriers.

I thought about the sounds barriers too. I guess the city is not that creative. They put up new sounds barrier off 95 near downtown and I thought, " It would if the Jags logo was embeded the sound barriers."
I will always be grateful to Wayne & Delores Weaver for bringing an NFL franchise to Jacksonville but I believe they fell short on the marketing of the team. Shad Khan is putting together an organization that will expand on what the Weavers started and I'm excited about what is ahead for the Jaguars and City of Jacksonville. Go Jags!
I think maybe they got overly comfortable after the massive outpouring of support for the Jags initially. E.g., it seemed there was no need to market outside of Jacksonville, or even that heavily promote within Jacksonville, when tickets were selling so easily. The radio network and outreach out of the immediate metro area dwindled substantially from 1995 until the present. Only in the past couple of years - specifically, after the 2009 debacle - has there been a burst of creativity in marketing and business community outreach and trying to get the entire community involved in and taking pride in the team. The next step, as I understand it, is regional marketing outside the immediate metro area.
I think Khan will make changes, but he needs to listen to us! This 4 page thread has more ideas in it than what the team has been doing for years now!

I always wondered why we stayed kooped up in the metro area. Like they would travel to orange park to promote ticket sales... Um hello that Jacksonville. LOL They need to market heavily in south Georgia ( St Marys and all those other smaller towns) and even central florida (Daytona, Orlando and Kissimmee). At this point, central florida does not give a damn about the Bucs, so this is an opportunity to win central florida over. And I think we already have a radio broadcast of our games in Orlando. (correct me if Im wrong) I mean they are literally right up the highway anyways.

I am too. But I HATE to say this, but they could have done alot more than the with the franchise. Up until 2009 we really did zero marketing. The most youd see is Winn Dixie giving away tickets. Khan is a visionary and hes aggressive. WW was laid back and didnt really have a vision but " Lets make the playoffs." (no offense wayne). We should have also replaced the team president back in 1997 when our old one left. When you have a team president, its kind of like having two owners. Hiring that new president was a HUGE move our on part. Good things are on the way.
The coolest part of the game is AFTER the game when the D-Line has its awesome jam session under the south end zone. 1000 fans are jumping an dancing and grooving, surrounding the D-Line. It's a real connection. Very wild and fun. Keep this. Make it even crazier!!!

When you look at the other smaller-market teams, they have been heavily marketing themselves on a regional basis for years. The Saints draw from all over Louisiana and Mississippi; the Colts market in all of the secondary Indiana cities; the Bills draw from Rochester and Syracuse as well as Ontario.
The Jags seemed to be trying this at the beginning - when I look at a 1995 game program, I see the radio network covered the lower half of Georgia, a handful of South Carolina and Alabama stations, and many more affiliates in Florida. Now we're down to 10 or so radio affiliates (there is coverage in Orlando as you stated, though), never really caught on with much of the populace in the I-4 corridor, and play distant second fiddle to the Falcons in Savannah. If the Bills can be Syracuse and Rochester's team there's no reason why the Jags can't be a player in Savannah, Daytona, even Charleston.
Fortunately, I understand the Jags recognized this even before Mr. Khan came in and are taking steps in the right direction on this issue (and would've implemented their plans faster but for the lockout).

ink the weavers just got burnt out.
Talk about making a loud statement, Mr. Khan, when every J. Q. Executive in the USA see's a sleek modern monorail glide into a stadium station, THE JAGS AND THE CITY OF JACKSONVILLE, will be forever etched on their mind. That's an act that NY, CHI, LA, ETC... couldn't touch, at least not for a long, long, time.

Everbank field should be dubbed "the jungle". The raiders can call their home "the black hole", the gators can call theirs "the swamp", so why not?
Maybe blare guns n' roses while at it. Lol.
I am being serious, though.

Eh, too unoriginal. The Bengals used to call the old Riverfront Stadium, and currently call Paul Brown Stadium that.

Oh. Nevermind, then.
The Jags do play "Welcome to the Jungle" before most games. The Roar do a routine to it.
A lot of us like The Vault as the stadium nickname and it was on a commemorative cup last year.

Once again, please forgive me for not going to more games. It doesn't mean I don't support my home team. Lol.
