Anyone know if the old Jax Brewery building is for sale (1701 West 16th Street)? Or know how i can request that information?
Its currently being used by e-scrap recycling.
I have taken a tour of the facility. Its still largely intact (coolers, ect) though the building is in horrific shape.
I don't know if its for sale, but its in a questionable area, off the beaten path.
Did you ever find the place you wanted in order to open your bar?
No, still looking for the right spot, Preservation Tap and Chophouse is up for sale and the design of the building would be perfect , It would allow us to put the tanks upstairs and use a gravity fed system, But I've been told the asking price is pretty high. I did contact the agent you had suggested, but never heard back. We checked out "The Library" on Monday but haven't been able to extract a lot of information. We're looking to open something, be it a full blown Brewery / Restaurant or Beer Pub by late 2008.
the sooner the better my friend! :'(
the brewery-restaurant at The Landing recently closed...maybe some of the equipment is still there

Someone, who gets into the old JAX BREWERY and walks out with old tanks, pipe, signs and equipment, would make a killing in this city and the 5-10 county area. Add to that a purchase of the old JAX BEER name from Pearl Brewing? and OMG, you could laugh all the way to the bank.

Have you checked out 20 West on Adams Street? Their realtor mentioned that they would be willing to give a cheap leasing rate to get a restaurant in the building. Would you consider Main Street in Springfield or Edgewood Avenue in Murray Hill?
I tried to put him in touch with Petra Mgmt (Hionides group) about the old surfside blding on Main. I guess they didnt follow up, so I am trying to get a hold of them to see if I can get them talking about it.
How much square footage are they looking for? How about Pier Avenue's building on the SW corner of 7th & Main or Springfield Station's old spot at 6th & Main?

No, we have not. Can you email me with the contact information?
Sure. I get a couple of numbers for you.
Thank You. :)
I always thought the ground floor of the Churchwell Lofts on E. Bay Street at S. Market Street would be a perfect place for a pub/restaurant/sports bar, especially if you can get some residents upstairs. Not sure if it would have the vertical clearance you need for brewing, though. Anyone know if something is planned for that space?
Also, why did the Preservation Chophouse close so quickly? It was barely open a year.
Churchwell Lofts would be another good spot as well. I think its still available.

From what i understand, they were losing too much money. Good news though if you are a riverside / avondale resident is that Crush is being reopened by the owners of CHEW and is expected to be more 'price' friendly.

I know that the Surfside Bldg in Springfield can be had at $5 a sq ft.
Creekside, I have emailed you already, but with your permission, I would love to set up a meeting with you and the Hionides Rep. That bldg has over 8000sq ft (I think up stairs and down is even more), and with the second story, would allow you to do the gravity feed that you want. Plus, with Main st being torn up, it would be great for you to try to coincide your opening with a brand new Main st.
NICE. Thanks for being so helpful. Let me marinate on this over the weekend and I'll email you the beginning of next week. Thanks again.
Just a couple of questions, while we're on the subject of breweries. I noticed that Landshark Beer is made in Jax, and it is a product under Jimmy Buffett. Is this a local brewery and if anybody has tried the beer, how does it taste?

YES! I hope this is true because I really miss Crush. It was close to my house and had great country French food. They always were pretty busy when I was in there so I was surprised to see them close.
As for Preservation Chophouse, I think they were trying too hard with the food and made it too complex. For example, collard greens dont need to be au gratin with breading (the Preservation method). Cook them with some great seasoning and they are simpler, cleaner, healthier and taste a lot better. It just seemed to me that their food was overly complex and rich and they should have stuck with the basics more. Just my opinion though. The prices werent really bad there compared with comparable places.
CN, Landshark is made at the Budweiser plant, if I am not mistaken.
I never made it to Crush but I really like chew (the lunch menu items are my favorite sandwiches/salads). I'd love for it to be over there it is such a nice space. What happened with Crush it seemed to do so well? Does anyone know?

Thanks, DTP. I see that Landshark is basically a brew from Budweiser that Buffett endorsed for the company to market. That's disappointing, because I was starting to think that Buffett may have an interest in locating a Margaritaville location in Jax, plus providing a local brew. Oh well, I'll continue to dream.

I believe the owner of Crush decided to open a sports bar, which we (riverside / avondale residents) know as Kickbacks.

Buffet probably endorsed it because Budweiser promised him more money than Corona as a sponsor for his tour and said they would produce a beer that appears to be from the 'Margaritaville Brewing Company...'
Does anyone have any information on THE HAMBY BUILDING located @ 325 W. Forsyth St..
Who owns it?
Is it still for lease? if so, rate?

I had thought the same thing until I looked more into it. The Margaritaville Brewing Company is Buffet's label and is in a cooperative agreement with Anheuser Busch (AB) to brew and distribute. Makes a lot of sence if you want your recipe to span the country really quick. I guess the brew could still break away from AB when/if the time is right but why stop a good thing? I think the beer is great. It is a bit smoother than Corona and drinks well with just about anything. Assuming they stick around, I'm a customer for life simply because it tastes great an is a locally based company. It costs about as much as the higher-end AB products (Bud Select, Michelobe, etc.). AB is also distributing Buffet's liquor line as well.
I'd love to see more locally owned brewing companies popping up to give the big boys a run for their money. Many of the microbrews around town are lacking in one area or another. The best I've experienced in the area is A1A Aleworks in DT St. Augustine but the problem is that you can't pick up a six pack of their pale ale for a cookout at the house...
If you have not been to Seven Bridges lately, you should give it a shot. The new brewmaster Eric is doing a really nice job with the 'special brews' which he is allowed to be creative with, outside of the 'corporate brews' where he has to stick to a given formula. He had a RYE IPA on tap last week which was exceptional.
Also, another problem we ran into with becoming a brew pub is you are not allowed, in the state of Florida to sell your beer outside of the restaurant (Bottles, Cans, Kegs, Growlers, etc...) that you can with a standard production only micro.
Can you have a small standard production line with a restaurant attached to it?
yea, that's one way to get around it. Brewery in the back, restaurant in the front. We could call it Mullet's... ;)
They would have to be two separate business and the restaurant would have to purchase the beer just like any other.
I haven't been to Seven Bridges in quite sometime but will certainly give them a shot next time I'm in the area.

Actually I like Mullet's - in this city, a place with a name like that should do well.
In any event, we got a tour of the Old Library, and it has some pretty cool spaces. They are at least a year from occupancy in my estimation, but it would be a cool place. On the ground floor (Forsyth Level), they have some spots with old maintenance pits where there is 15 foot clearance to the ceiling.
