Title: JULY PUB CRAWL!
Post by: Captain Zissou on July 13, 2011, 01:27:26 PM
We're 16 Days away from a bigger and better pub crawl for July.  We have regrouped and gone over what worked and what didn't from the last crawl and we think you'll be happy with what we decided.

Gone: Ivy's, Incompetent/ Unnecessary JTA Supervisor, multiple waves of people in and out of the Landing

Added:
An Extra Trolley, Mark's Downtown, PRIZES and giveaways, multiple registration locations and pe-parties, later trolley drop offs, and an absolute awesome time.

To kick off the night, we're going to have check in and pre-parties at The Landing as well as Walker's Wine Bar on King Street.  We'll have drink specials for you while you check in and get ready.  This will kick off at 6:30.  From there, trolleys will take you to our first destination, TSI Discotheque

From there we're headed to:

Mark's Downtown
Dive Bar
The Landing
The Rogue
The Loft

Also, we will have food trucks for your dining enjoyment on King Street.

In addition there will be giveaways throughout the night from Bold City, Intuition, The Landing, and many others.

Stay tuned here for more information!

Not sure I have recovered from June but I will still plan to be there.  Was it the loft that had the "Bath Water Gin" ?  I may have partaken several of those.

11 days from glorious Pub Crawling Bliss.

The last crawl was honestly a big surprise.  I had no idea the forum had such attractive readers.  I was assuming that it would be a bunch of crazy old hippies like Ock and Stephen.  It turned out that the average attendee was age 24-26, smart, and attractive.  So either we did a heck of a job recruiting, or we have some beautiful readers.

While we did give Dive Bar and TSI a great deal of business, I'm not sure anyone has a very detailed memory of what the inside of TSI actually looks like.  So that we'll have more clear headed crawlers when we get to TSI, Mark's, and Dive, we're setting them up at the front of the crawl.  Scott and Crew might also benefit from the crawlers being a little more tired by the time they get to Rogue, Loft, etc....  If you want to bet me that you can't drink 4 Bathtub Gin Cocktails in 40 minutes, I can point out about 2 dozen folks that would have proved you wrong last crawl.

I can't wait.

Pub Crawl FAQ

What is this Pub Crawl all about?  It’s the most fun you will have outside of a Florida-Georgia game in downtown.

What does my ticket entitle me to?  Two drink tickets, no cover charge at any participating bar on the crawl(at any time during the night) and complimentary trolley service between pubs.  IN ADDITION, there will be free giveaways throughout the night and the opportunity to win great prizes during the Bold City Brewlympics at the Jacksonville Landing.

Will I be able to take home a pint glass from the Ritz?  Nah brah, it’s time to stop hanging out with the same old people.  Nightlife very much exists on the other side of the ditch.  Besides, you already have a kitchen full of Ritz glasses  :)

What if I just got my hair done, I don’t want all this humidity to affect my hotness?  I know what you mean girlfriend, ok?!?!  I don’t want to see your hair get all frizzy either.  Trolleys come equipped with ice cold AC.  We are beautiful-people friendly and an equal opportunity Pub Crawl.

I don’t want to be driving around drinking, how am I going to get all the way downtown safe and sound?  Drinking and driving makes us angry and it’s against the law.  Mostly, it’s just a stupid and deadly thing to do.  The Hyatt is offering all Pub Crawlers a fantastic deal to ‘take the elevator home’.  Book a room at the Hyatt, mention the MetroJacksonville Pub Crawl and you will get one night’s accommodations for only $99 and in turn will receive a $50 gift certificate anywhere in the Jacksonville Landing.  Keep the fun rolling all night and into the next day with this offer.  If you have a designated driver in your group, please let us know at check in and they will receive a wristband to ride the trolley and enter all of the pubs free of charge.  Sorry no free drink tickets for your DD.  We’re not that dumb ;)

What are the participating locations?  Club TSI, Marks Lounge, Dive Bar, The Jacksonville Landing, Walkers, Rogue and the Loft are our participating locations.  It's a great mix of venues.  There will be something for everyone, and perhaps a whole lot more.

The Pub Crawl starts early.  I gotta get my grub on.  What’s up with that?   Believe me, I never skip an opportunity to eat a good meal.  The Jacksonville Landing will be offering Pub Crawlers a special menu from participating Landing restaurants so you can soak up your libations with a good square meal.

Will I get lucky?  That’s not the kind of business we’re in homie.  But, it’s very likely you were conceived on a night like this.

Where do I buy tickets?   Ahhh, great question.  Now you’re talking the right language.  Go to metrojacksonville.com/pubcrawl and you’ll find a paypal link to purchase tickets.  I encourage you to buy your tickets early, as tickets on the day of the event will be more expensive.

Where do I join the Pub Crawl?  We’ll have two spots to start the crawl.  For our Riverside/Avondale friends, you can start the crawl at Walkers from 6:30 to 7:20PM.  For our downtown and suburbinate friends, you can join at the Jacksonville Landing from 6:30 to 7:30PM.  Keep checking metrojacksonville.com/pubcrawl for more details and a full schedule.

I heard downtown isn’t safe and there is nowhere to park?  Here's a little secret: Downtown is one of the most safest neighborhood in the city. It’s not just for the homeless anymore.  Plus, there are an ABUNDANCE of parking options.  We suggest meter parking, which is free after 6PM.  For most of you though, you can just park at the Hyatt.  You’ll be staying there anyway when you take advantage of their Stay N Play MetroJacksonville Pub Crawl deal.

Is it true that Captain Zissou can't hold his liquor?   No comment.

Field, you weren't there, so you don't know.  I held it quite well, thank you.  I was just holding about 14 drinks..... Happens.

Everyone: As much as I appreciate all the free drinks, for this next crawl I ask that you please don't feel obligated to provide me with them.

As amazing as Field's list was (thanks for that), I'm still not quite sure it captures the full greatness of the pub crawl.  Ticket sales are starting to roll in so don't wait.

If you had told us last time that over 120 people would wait until day of to buy tickets, we might have instituted a ticket cut off.  As it was, we had no way of knowing 250 people would be crawling until 7:00 night of.  We love more people, but at some point a huge crowd affects the level of service we are able to provide to each crawler.  Do us a favor and buy your ticket early so we can beef up on staff, transit, drink tickets, and prizes.

If you missed our last crawl, do yourself a huge favor and join us on Friday night.  It is going to be a blast.  If you were fortunate enough to be at the last pub crawl, we have added so much more to this crawl that you'll love.  I am currently of the opinion that we have TOO MANY giveaways.  It's really ridiculous how many bar tabs, gift cards, free growlers, and other prizes we have to give away.

What happened at Ivy's last month?

They decided that they did not like having the business of 200+ people, so they decided not to honor the drink tickets they had agreed to accept as part of the pub crawl. Instead of taking up their issue, which was baseless, with the organizers of the event, they decided to take it out on the costumers the crawl had brought. Once we realized this, we started moving people to the next stop (Dive Bar).

Not to fear, however, we will not be stopping at Ivy's again, and we assure you that all the stops we have planned for this event will be honoring their obligation to crawlers and treating their costumers with respect. Oh, and they'll be a lot of fun.

This is EXACTLY the type of event that is needed to help promote and make Downtown THE DESTINATION for nightlife in Jacksonville.

The link for July is the same as the link for June, so if you are getting the June info, your comp may have the old page saved in its cache. Refreshing the page usually works. Otherwise, clear your history and go back to the page. If neither of those work, there might be a tear in the time-space continuum, in which case, we've got bigger problems.  :-\

However, the password "I'm hear for the pub crawl" will still work.

I had an issue with Ivy's when they first opened. There was some sort of Friday club thing put on by DVI a while back I think that was sort of like a pub crawl which let you get into certain listed clubs for free when you presented the flyer and also was supposed to get you one free drink from every club listed. My wife and I took part and made our way From Mavericks in the Landing,  over to bay St where Ivy's told us there were no free drinks. So we left and went to Dive Bar and Marks and got free drinks at both. I emailed the owner about the whole issue and about how their door person acted all snooty and he did apologize and let me use a VIP booth for free. Strange that the issue iss till ongoing. Did anyone go to the owners?

The Hyatt is also still accepting bookings for the Stay n Play deal.  It's looking like we'll have quite a few suburbinites tonight.  $99 gets you one night's accomodations(the rooms at the Hyatt are pretty nice inside) plus a $50 gift certificate to The Landing.

Pretty good deal!  Lots of people took advantage of this last month.

I had fun.
I arrived at the Landing at 7:37 saw Dan and there was another Crawler or two and the trolley had left. Lesson. If arriving at a bar as opposed to a cleanup your butt better be right on time. LMAO so I was late and now we are hoofing it over to Bay St. Remember it was hot. Get to Bay and other Crawlers are merging from other streets and its a Minny parade heading to the party. Someone says "Hey there is a Pub Crawl Trolley. The light had turned red and it had stopped. I didn't care if I still had 3,4,5 blocks to still walk to the first bar. I felt like I was crawling already. For me the trolley experience was part of the draw.

The door opens up and its the man with the box. I was so glad to see Field. The AC was also a nice bonus. The trolley was heading to Riverside and I didn't mind going for the ride. Are you ready for this but for me the last time I was on a trolley was the ribbon cutting ceremony at Castaway Island a Preservation Park Project and I was sitting across from Susie Wiles and she was on the phone asking why there was only one trolley and not two. A parking option for the ceremony was a school that was not close. The trolley was nice. The trolley ride back to Bay St. was packed.

Once on Bay we get to the bars. I got my wrist band on. I know Field was busy with the early logistics and I still had to get my drink coupons. See what running 7 minutes late can do. Fortunately we were going to be right there for awhile. Finally I feel like I was settling in to a routine. There is a strategy to some of this.

It was a lot of fun to meet so many people. I had the pleasure of meeting Mark the owner of Mark's and he was so gracious to be greeting and talking to everyone that was enjoying the Crawl. We talked briefly about the potential of the Pier and Mark just a shout out but if you would like to see Hogans Creek for yourself from a kayak I can guarantee that we'll Make it Happen. I know some of you are saying there he goes. Noone did it again. stuck an issue in a thread that has nothing to do with the Crawl. I disagree.

I was getting into the Bay St. Groove and then word was spreading fast that the trolley was leaving. I wasn't missing this ride again. The trolley was packed and it was a fun ride over to Riverside. Once there and the doors open everyone is piling out. A patron from one of the tables says "Its the Crawlers." I've never experienced it and don't know if I really want to but you could have had a red carpet out and the numbers of people that just emptied out and then emptied in.

I had a really good time.
I would just add when suggestions are made.
Drink responsibly.
Trolley responsibly.

My Manfriends and I definitely enjoyed. They are all recent transplants and hadn't experienced any Jax nightlife beyond the Beach bars and Blackfinn. I got the email on Wednesday or Thursday and figured this would be a great way to break them in. Some crazy SOB told them to "stay away from Downtown unless you want to get shot." upon their arrival. Best feedback was (with genuine surprise, at Rogue/Loft)... "Wow, this town actually DOES have character. I stand corrected. Lets come back tomorrow night."

Love the idea of a San Marco/Riverside crawl. Interested to see the lineup for next month, I'm sure the guys will recruit based on their experience. Also can't wait to see the pictures from Friday. The trolley rides in particular were pretty rad and worthy of documentation and publication. I'm still giggling at random flashbacks. ;D

Yes, Northstar was busy.  But next door wasn't.  And neither was Dos Gatos and Lit, at least at midnight as the lady friend went there after the crawl left the Bay Street bars.

Just going off what people told me.

And we did have food.  I passed out over 100 flyers at the Landing showing which restaurants had food specials specifically for crawlers (in the $5 price points no less).  And Chicago Pizza sold slices to Pub Crawlers right at the Bold City Brewlympics at the Landing.

We tried to get a food cart at Walkers, but it fell through.  Kickbacks wasn't terribly busy though.  I stopped in at 1AM and got a to-go order that came out really quick.

BTW, best moment of the night was seeing TUFSU1 completely hammered at the Landing.  We gotta do that more often, lol.

+1 to everything posted before this.

Had a fantastic time (once again) on the pub crawl and my little bro was amazed.  Looking forward to next month - assuming I can manage to get my mini-me to grandmas house again.

Some of us didn't stop after the pubcrawl, though - Saturday was another great time at Intuition for the PB&J Fair - which ended up being a crawl of its own (almost literally) as my group of 4 at Intution was a group of 7 at Carmines and by the time we fell through the front door of Kickbacks I wan't keeping count (not that I would have been very able)

Sunday has been productive, though, yard is done, pool is done, growler is half-empty and I made my first post of the day.

For the record, Noone absolutely whooped Field at taking shots.  I saw him accomplish back to back victories at Loft.  It was great to see that side of him.

BTW, best moment of the night was seeing TUFSU1 completely hammered at the Landing.  We gotta do that more often, lol.

TUFSU1 would like to dispuite this assertion...from his only slightly-cloudy recollection, somebody (fieldafm) was trying to break the rules by taking pitchers of beer from Hooters out to the courtyard :)

Quotein fact, it might be a good stop during the Pub Crawl....lets people get some food!

I caught Robert's food cart near the Hyatt around 1:30am and had a pork chop sandwhich and some wings. there was a line but it was so good when my turn came around.  Capt. your too kind but I don't think I've earned the rank that you are bestowing on me.

apparently that was true for Mavericks (even though the Landing was packed)....but Northstar did very well Friday night (I stopped in around midnight)....in fact, it might be a good stop during the Pub Crawl....lets people get some food!

Yea Northstar was pretty crowded as we headed from Bay St to the Landing. Others look pretty empty. Northstar usually does well Friday night as they have Mad Cowford, which is an awesome show for anyone that hasn't checked them out.

I'm PRETTY sure I was not going to get in trouble for that  ;)

All I can say is, whenever the Makers Mark gets there... I accept your challenge.

^ Add to that list 5 Points Theatre.  They gave us 3 pair of movie tickets.

My prize of 50 free wings at Hooters is going to be redeemed this weekend.  If only I could find one of those free growler winners.  That would be a heck of a party.
