Does anyone know what is going on with Parkview?  It seems like there hasn't been any action over there recently.

They sure are taking their time with the Park View. I'll believe it's coming down when it's gone.

Friendship Fountain and the surrounding area looks fantastic. What about the San Marco Blvd work, how are those businesses doing? Is the work having the same detrimental effect on them that the Main St work had on some of those businesses?

It has been a struggle for those businesses.  But most are staying optimistic because the end result will be such an improvement.  It's hard to complain too much when you are getting a really nice streetscape in front of your business.

If this works here is a better idea of the progress on Baptist Wolfson Tower by Batson Cook Company.

Has the Wolfson tower topped out yet??

Also, What are they putting in the roundabout at 'museum circle'?  Another statue of AJ?

Is the city required to provide parking for the public portion of Brooklyn Park?

Since that photo was taken, all of the windows have been pulled out of Carters Pharmacy at Park & King.

When I drove by Park and King yesterday, the old carters pharmacy has been completely gutted, even the exterior windows/walls- you can see the entire space, straight through to the backside. It's going to be an awesome space once they finish.

If you ever have any doubt about the possibility of eternal life, look no further than the Park View Inn.  That building seems to be destined to stay up...  LOL

btw...I learned that the odd-looking information kiosks on Laura Street are actually housing the traffic signal control boxes....so, while they aren't that pretty, it is a cool idea.

The wolfson tower has not been topped yet, but they are getting very close. As for the round about, Bob stated they are putting up a scuplture called "Standing Stilts."

Thanks.

I hope the Wolfson Tower has at least 3 more floors left.  I'd like for it to be comparable to the Nemours tower.  The symmetry would provide a cool gateway for travelers on 95 South.

The new Chew building should be breaking ground at Oak and Margaret (next to Mossfire) real soon.  It will be fun to watch that one go up.

Minggle City is on Adams Street, right next door to Chew.  From the looks of it, it appears to be a bar/restaurant.

Can we take photos inside the courthouse next time? As I understand it, they're now working on the interior exclusively.

I hear that the San Marco streetscape project is still a year and a half from completion. I don't have much money these days, But I advise everyone to try and patronise these businesses. I too will try once I have a better cashflow.

Overstreet, that's an excellent photo of the construction at Wolfson's. I especially enjoy the angle and view of DT in the upper right corner, looks like a real city. Now if we can just get Brooklyn to look like DT, baby steps I guess. Just glad to see things move forward.

For the past few months, I thought June's update would be the last, thank God it's not!

All they did with the shipyard is plant some trees and patch up the adjacent sidewalk.  Its going to be a green area until the city ultimately decides what to do with it.

I believe they are required to use tweezers and Ziploc bags to dispose of asbestos.

If this was somebody's house in Springfield, the building would have been gone in two days.

Oak
Post
Riverside
Forrest
Park -or- Myrtle
Bay
Lee
Water
Independence
Newnan

Streetcar construction SHOULD move at one block per week.

New Orleans is working on their Loyola Extension and dirt is already turning on a cluster of new development projects and TOD'S. They expect over a BILLION in new development when the streetcar is up and running. Jacksonville NEEDS a piece of that action.

It would take several weeks to three months to prep the building for explosive demolition. Some design to be done. Some removals to be done. Some weakening to be done. Some armoring of existing structures to be done.....etc...etc.

Asbestos removal takes time. You have to erect air locks, filters, do testing, remove things so it don't create dust, etc.  Then everything goes into trash bags carefully so the bag don't tear between the install site and the dump. Then you test air, room, people and disassemble the containment area to move to the next area. Sometimes the workers have to have more breaks since you are wearing the paper suit and masks. Especially in the hot months.

UM - let me get this straight...the Park & King area will now be host to: Primi Piatti (sp), Carmine's (yum), a soon to be announced upscale italian place, and the coming soon Mellow Mushroom..........how many pizza/italian places does that district need?!?! Why are the business owners setting themselves up to either fail or close a neighbor??

There are 1.4 million people in our metropolitan area. Every one of them eats, knows they're supposed to eat, or tries to eat 3 meals a day. Many are hungry for a date experience or an evening out on the town. You could have 100 restaurants side by side and if the food and service is good people will seek them out and keep them busy.

Primi Piatti is really selling a completely different experience than the other three, but I get your point. It will be 3 similar restaurants in a 2 block area. Maybe they'll take business away from Burger King. They might do alright though. Carmine's already does well and its fantastic. I could see Mellow bringing people in from other areas of town (like everywhere west and north that doesn't have a Mellow Mushroom, and from anywhere where Riverside would be your closest Mellow), so I don't see them really struggling. Unnamed (Pele's?) may be in the worst situation, but even if its bad it may get spillover from the other two. And if it is Pele's, well, deliciousness sells itself.

If the market is oversaturated with Italian a restaurant or two might go bust, but given how that area is booming I'm sure something will take it's place quickly. We've already seen the Pizza Palace on King close, and then get refilled up quickly with Soups On.

If you pass by Robert E. Lee, you may notice some construction going on. Well, the school is getting a historic renovation, as well as an addition which would include a new cafeterium, gymnasium, and boys locker rooms. The project is projected to be LEED (silver) certified. Construction is set to begin Wednesday, the 15th and will finish around November 2012. The school will remain occupied during construction.

More information about the project can be found here: http://www.ajaxbuilding.com/current_projects_robertelee.html

I was driving down McDuff Avenue the other day and I noticed a large addition on the south end of Lee High School that looks close to being finished.  I had not noticed it being mentioned in the construction updates in the past.  Is it not considered to be in the urban core? Also, it looks like additional work is taking place behind the school.

Sometimes we miss projects.  That's why we also count on discussion board members to fill us in on missed projects for future updates.
