To my Republican and Democratic friends, do you think we should extend the "personal responsibility" we hold all our citizens to, and have it apply to elected officials like Rick Scott?
Most who voted for Rick Scott have buyer's remorse............should we have to wait 4 years before these elected politicians face any consequences?
QuoteFlorida law currently allows for the recall of local elected officials, but there is no provision to allow for the recall of state officials, unlike 18 other states.
Engaged citizens deserve the tools to hold their public servants accountable without having to wait for the next election!
Legislation to create a citizen recall process in Florida has been introduced by Rep. Kriseman. And to show the widespread support that bill has, a petition to be delivered to the Florida State House, the Florida State Senate, and Governor Rick Scott, has been created. The petition simply says:
"Create a citizens' recall process for state elected officials in Florida by passing Rep. Rick Kriseman's House Joint Resolution 785 and House Bill 787."
Will you sign the petition?

Anyone here sign it yet?
Almost 7,000 signatures already, but we are looking for 10,000!! ;D
Would this actually be a valid petition? I've never seen an online petition for something like this before.

Totally legit.
It was initiated by Rep. Kriseman.
As you know, Dems are just sitting there in Tallahassse without any say whatsoever...........
So the only way they can get Republicans to pay attention, and move on this is to show that citizens are INDEED concerned about the fact that 18 other states CAN recall their Governors, State Senators, and State Representatives. After all Florida is fourth in the nation in terms of population.
Why is it that we are always so far behind every other state in granting our citizens rights?
I signed I do not think Scott will recalled but there should be that option.
We can recall a Mayor, we the people should be able to recall a Governor.
It needs to be on the next ballot in 2012 as a Constitutional Amendment.

It does, because heaven forbid it be a bill for the governor to sign or veto! ;D

And then everytime the other party is in control...the other party starts a recall movement.
Does any one think that it wont happen that way?
Well, Amy, no. We haven't tried to recall our Mayor - ever. And presidential impeachment happens rarely.
I think we can be trusted with the right of recall. It's an extraordinary remedy. Much easier in most cases to wait for the next election.
Why would you recall him?
Sour grapes over the HSR rejection?
His hard line on spending cuts?
I don't necessarily enjoy his communication skills to the public, but he is raising awareness and forcing the legislators to make priorities.
Every politician has an approach and angle on what is important to spend on. He is making those who don't agree to justify their positions. While his approach rubs people wrong, he is actually starting a debate where it wasn't happening before.
I would have expected Alex Sink to be doing the same things if she won.(forcing priorities) Perhaps she might have communicated it a little better than Rick Scott does.

No...in the past it hasn't happened, but in today's political climate...I can see it happening.
The process should be very ridged and hard to achieve but it would be a good to have a safe guard for future candidates. It should be on the ballot. Voted for after the Governor's current term is over even though I would love to see him go.

If it's done this way... I wouldn't have a problem with it.
As long as it's not a "my guy lost...let's RECALL!!" kind of thing!!

AmyLynn, thanks for bringing that up. That would undeed be very disruptive, so the recall would require signatures from 15% of all voters in that particular election, which is very time consuming and difficult to achieve. (btw Rick Scott only won by 1%)
QuoteKriseman's proposed bill would allow a petition for recall to be circulated throughout Florida by voters who desire to do so. They would have four months to collect signatures against a state official from all of Florida's counties. In the case of legislators, the signatures must include a certain number from his/her own district.
The number of signatures would need to equal 15 percent of the voters in the most recent election. A special election would then be held to determine if the consensus is the same among the majority of voters.
If there are not enough votes to remove the politician, he or she would be able to complete their term of office. There could possibly be reimbursement to the official for expenses incurred while campaigning against the petition.
This process could only be used one time against the same person.

While I totally commend your efforts... Is this going to accomplish a recall?
Why can't we just have him arrested for lying to the state officials and the state population itself..this man is a liar, thief and a not good snotbag...let get rid of him and the sooner the better....we are the laughing stock of america so says the other people around the world..they all are laughing at us....it's rediculous to let this man into office...he should be spending 20 years in jail for theft

Timkin, it's all about empowerment of the people.
We are simply building momentum for as Jimmy says:
QuoteWe can recall a Mayor, we the people should be able to recall a Governor.
It needs to be on the next ballot in 2012 as a Constitutional Amendment.
Obviously there is no way that Rick Scott is going to sign a new law into existence that would allow his own recall. As I've said before............it's so easy to hold the single moms accountable, but oh no..............our leaders want to do whatever they want without any repercussions.
Hey, who knows, maybe Scott is rethinking his own craziness now, as he already recalled the "emergency" measure of cutting funding to those who take care of our disabled.
Rolling over and playing dead is the worst thing we can do as citizens: we MUST hold our leaders accountable every which way we can.
Even if it is just to move the Overton window.
Floridians have been so programmed that that we have no rights............that there is nothing we can do about the GOBs and all the other power brokers, that many don't even bother to vote.
Well, we do have rights, but we DO have to claim them.
And one of the first steps needed is to empower the people to do so.
It is a shame our struggles at times seem so insurmountable, as to get people thoroughly discouraged.
Lets break that vicious cycle TOGETHER!!!!!
Open people's minds to the fact that we CAN do something about our corrupt situation.
QuoteIt needs to be on the next ballot in 2012 as a Constitutional Amendment.
Well, I don't think the petition is circulating anymore but at almost 26,000 signatures in just a few days, there is definitely a huge appetite to hold elected state officials accountable through the option of recall.
When will we be joining the 18 other states who have that option available to their citizens?
And why do Floridians keep electing these fools?
