I know that many of us that supported Audrey have been looking for an opportunity to connect with Mr. Brown and his campaign.  Here's an easy way to do that at Burrito Gallery on Thursday after work.

sounds more like "donate to" than "meet," but at least its at BG. Unless of course, you actually just wanted to get a burrito that night, then its really inconvenient.

In my experience they hardly enforce the suggested donation at a function like this.  So...

And I've heard from the organizer.  They will be doing similar events at the beach, on the Southside, and again downtown.  That's the plan.  But I wouldn't wait.  I'd come on Thursday.  And heck yeah, get a burrito too! :)

UPDATE! I just got off the phone with the campaign.  To help in your planning, please know that Alvin is expected to arrive at 5:45 and speak somewhere right around that time.

This will be a great chance to shake his hand and ask your burning question(s).

Let's go, MetroJacksonville!

To anyone complaining about a request for money to meet Alvin, you need to know it is crunch time for all candidates and to do a free meet and greet is a waste of the candidates time at this point, unless as the candidate already has tons of money in the bank. Alvin , I suspect, doesn't have lots of money. Not sure about mike hogan. Like it or not, money is the mothers milk of a campaign. Spend 25.00 to meet a candidate that could  play a huge role in your future. This is not an endorsement but just a reality check for some readers! Matt Carlucci sr.

Thanks, Matt.  That's an appreciated reality check.  Now, about that endorsement... ;)

Right, so since I'm the only other one that posted in this thread, I think its safe to assume that "anyone complaining" and "some readers" are both referring to me, so thanks for only being generally condescending and not personally so (and that's for both of you). Now to call a meet and greet a waste of the candidates time is more than a little disingenuous, as that is exactly what he will be doing for most of the next month. Or does he charge the people at the hospital and the kids at school when he visits them? Fundraising and this dirty campaign-destroying activity of "meeting" people are both important to the campaign. I don't have a problem with Mr. Brown having a fundraiser, I have a problem with it being pitched as a meet and greet for the common folk when it is actually a press conference and shake hands with rich people fest at a place that I'd rather be getting food from. And it costs money.

The "please join" lists 15 people, plus Alvin and his handlers, and presumably at least you two, and we're already up to two dozen. Add to that some media folks, and you'll hardly be able to fit many more people in a place the size of BG. So I think its safe to say most of the meeting will be with the folks that are hosting him. Also, I don't have a problem with that. You are advertising a meet and greet (presumably so that people can get to know the candidate), but at the same time you are asking them to support the candidate in order to meet him. Its silly. Call it a fundraiser and you won't hear a peep from me.

Now before you go thinking I'm just a Hogan supporter trying to subvert your advertisement: I voted Audrey and will likely vote for Brown now. Nothing against him at all, though I would take Burrito Gallery over any of the candidates that ran or are running.

Worth asking again.............perhaps too early to call.

PeeJay, $25 suggested donation isn't exactly a rich-person fest.  There are plenty of $500 dinners to attend for them.  This is a young professionals meet-and-greet.  If you don't have $25, they aren't going to turn you away.

Well, nice to know you will be voting for Brown. Meanwhile there are about 70 people on the FB Invite that have indicated they will attend.

Glad to see the very positive response!!!

Wow - what an event!  Good to see some of the MJ crew out there.  PJS, you were right one about thing.  It would have been a bad night to drop in to BG for a burrito unaware.

And I was right about one thing.  Donations were encouraged, but not required.

It was a good event and there's lots of energy from young professionals for Alvin Brown.

Yes, my post was aimed at you pj and anyone else reading thinking the same thing. When you go to the forum view, it says put on your thick skin. Campaigns cost money to be competitive. Just trying to bring a point of view , not hurt feelings. Matt Carlucci sr

I wonder if Mr Brown could get a speaking invite to introduce himself to the members of FBC?

I second that. It was very inspiring seeing so many young folks come together to choose a better future.

On my way to the event Trout's billboard on I-95 read:

Quote'If we always do what we've always done, we will get what we've always got

This was soooooooo applicable here!!!

Just like my two oldest daughters, Alvin Brown started his work experience at a local Winn-Dixie store. And, at age 48 he is young enough to relate to our next generation!! As an economist I just LOVE that he has an MBA from JU!!!

We need to make Jax a destination, not just a drive-through!

I was soooo happy to leave my $25 donation for the sake of my daughters' futures.

And remember I don't even live in Duval, but my daughters work and go to college in Duval!!!!

GG. FBC does not offer speaking invites to any candidate. Every candidate is always welcome to attend any service and be recognized. Many did before the first election.

about Alvin visiting first batist church, a look at history will reveal clearly bethel baptist was the FIRST baptist church. Just an observation.

Thanks Matt!

BTW, can we stop our focus on Baptists for electing city leaders?

Only 18% of Jax population is baptist, 24% of Jax population is of other Christian religion, and a whopping 58% IS NON-RELIGIOUS!

For those who are interested: only .3% is Islamic.

um..sorry but the numbers are misleading and incorrect...the data seems to only be showing those affiliated...for example, Jews make up about 2% of Jax. population, but only show as 0.68% on the web list you provided....the rest are not affilated with synagogues, but are not necessarily non-religious!
