Title: Hogans Creek Cleanup: February 12th @ 9:00 am, Noone's Launch Park
Post by: Captain Zissou on February 01, 2011, 01:48:19 PM
This event looks like it is getting to be pretty large, so I wanted it to have its own thread.  Noone has really gotten this issue some exposure, so it's time for us to get out there and help make this area shine.  The creek really is beautiful, and to have it so close to downtown is a blessing.  With some TLC and elbow grease, we can have it back the way it used to be in no time.

Let's get out there and make this happen!

Count me in.  I will bring the truck again and the girlfriend, although I can't promise she will be very useful... :P  This time I will bring a trailer for more trash capacity.

Who is putting this on and where is Noone's Launch Park? What do you guys intend to clean up? The Springfield Block Captains and a Boy Scout Troop cleaned up a portion of the creek where it runs through Klutho Park a few months ago. We got hundreds, if not thousands of pounds of "Hydra" which is an invasive plant species out of the creek.

I've got prior plans on that day, but may be able to help you guys get some materials for the cleanup. We used a special tool to get the Hydra out of the water that may be useful. Not sure who has it though.

I think I am good for that weekend. Could someone post a google maps link to where the launch point is at? Also is a boat required or will people be able to walk the shore and help?

Noone's Launch or Noone's Landing isn't an official park (yet), but it is a great piece of land to the east of Washington St where Beaver St dead ends.

Capt. Zissou thanks for the pats on the back. But the bottom line Hogans Creek launch is an urban waterway that can provide immediate community benefits within the Downtown core. Now!

This past weekend you, Da Monster, Field, Ock, CG7, PatODo, Kelly, Dougskiles, Miss Fixit, If I've left anybody out I apologize but it is truly a grass roots effort that is bringing awareness with just true volunteerism to clean up this waterway for Public use. You all are awesome in my book.

The 12th is just another of more steps in telling the world to Visit Jacksonville. And just maybe one more activity to do Downtown. Citylife there is no set group or club doing this but rather a bunch of concerned citizens. Eleven days out and I can't wait.

^Turn left onto Liberty Street, go two blocks and turn left onto Beaver Street.  Go one block and turn right onto Washington Street.  The open area will be on your left between the creek and Church Street.

Friends of Hogans Creek

This Saturday, come out and do something good for your community.  We'll be cleaning up a portion of Hogans Creek and raising awareness for what could become Jacksonville's greenbelt linking the river, the stadium district, the cathedral district and Springfield's once majestic parks.

No money is required, just your willingnesss to lend a hand.  I would recommend bringing some gloves.

We'll be meeting at Noone's Launch which is essentially behind the fire station and FDLE, near the downtown Winn Dixie represented in this graphic here:

If you have any questions, please pm me.

Still looking forward to Sat. morning at 9-11. Everyone is making it happen. Bring your own stuff gloves, boots, If you have those little plastic shopping bags that have accumalated in that place and you want to thin out that pile than just bring them. Should be a low tide and a lot easier to get  the stuff on the shore banks.

This area should be one of the biggest mayor and city council issues in the next 4 years.

In the weeks ahead anyone want to paddle Hogans Creek? Elected officials and those running in the spring elections go to the front of the line. Anyone in the media in Duval county or outside of Duval county is welcome.

Your participation will have you saying not only "Visit Jacksonville" but "Visit Downtown"

This is exciting!  Only 4 days away!

I can't stress enough how important it is to have gloves.  Tools aren't really needed, as we're not yet that far into the cleaning process.  Boots, Gloves, a smile, and some elbow grease are all you need to be a big help!!!

I'm going to bring water bottles and maybe some munchies for people.

Perhaps some day, with storm water fee monies and other elements of commitment firmly in place, the city will provide routine monitor and cleaning maintainence of River City water bodies.

It will be interesting to watch the Fishweir Creek restoration proposal unfold in this regard-previously unheard of designated city refuse inflow catch and discard maintainance a key recommendation during Fishweir project scoping.

Note past Ron Littlepage editorials in pre storm water fee era regarding Fishweir Creek trash impacts at Hamilton Street- the gist being that only 'higher taxes' would enable city involvement.
Now what??

Actually, it might be beneficial to bring a shovel and maybe a hacksaw.  That hatchet we had last time was pretty handy... Also, if you have waders you can definitely put them to use if you don't have access to a kayak.

9AM, rain or shine.  Believe me you will get dirty so a little rain isn't going to make things any worse :)

Come on out.  You'll have a good time, its free and it will help our community.  The amount of wildlife in the Hogan basin is eye opening and fascinating.

I went around my neighborhood a few times simply pocking trash up off the ground. It's simple but rewarding work. I encourrage everyone to do that in their own neighborhoods as well. It sure makes it look like there are people that care about their communities, and here in JAX we can really use that image..

Nobody let me use the hatchet!!??  Proper ropes might be a good idea too.  We may have to lasso a few shopping carts out of the creek with the truck.

Amen to that.  The wildlife blew me away.  Noone and Field say it all the time;  'Lets stop talking about it and Do it!'  I changed from a critic to a devoted follower after I spent 2 hours by the creek.

My experience with this creek is only the part that runs through the parks in Springfield, so I am looking forward to seeing more of it.

Monster:  The goal for this cleanup is to get all the way to the Duval Street bridge.  That should be enough land for the number of volunteers we have.  If not, we can send people up to Confederate Park if need be.  Hogan's Creek has plenty of room for us to work with.

L&N, That sounds good. I'd be more than happy to go to Main after 11 and keep going for another hour. Looking forward to meeting more SOS and SPAR Movers and Shakers.

Had the opportunity to meet Vivian Harrell with Clean it up and Green it up. She was awesome. Will have some supplies for this cleanup which is just 26 hours away. Its happening. Vivian  will have a solid waste pick up for the garbage that is collected. Thats a partnership.

Just know in your heart that you are making it happen. Somebody bring a camera because it should be a big pile of garbage.

I may have to rush off to do a Habijax project, but if not I'd love to help too.  Are there any SPAR folks who would be able to put in a half hour to an hour to lend us a hand before hand?  Field is right, a partnership between the two groups would benefit both sides. A clean Hogan's Creek is a great asset to the entire city, but even more so to the Springfield community.

Timkin, that was the Sup-Tropical Exposition .  It was located on the SW corner of Main & 1st Street.  It opened in 1888 featuring a Seminole Indian camp, displays of Florida products, an art gallery, two artificial lakes, and a zoo.  It didn't last long due to Jax getting hit with yellow fever, which kept the tourist away.  It was torn down in 1897 for the water reservoir that sits on that corner today.

fieldafm, yes that appears to be a sailboat.  That image was taken before the channelization of the creek.  As you can see, it was much larger in its natural state.

Less than 24 Hours until the clean up!!  The weather looks like it will be perfect.  Cool and clear.  Bring a camera, I bet the natural life will be out in full force!  For many of you, this will drastically change your perspective.  For the rest of us, it already has.

River Ocean again...
Happy Friday! We are really looking forward to tomorrow morning and will be ready to clean!  I (Elizabeth) will be bringing our camera (I'm the River Ocean photographer) and would love to get some great shots of everyone to share with our community.  If anyone wants to leave their email address on this forum I will get photos sent out, or the easiest way for everyone to see would be on our facebook page, River Ocean.  Anyways...I just wanted to let everyone know that we will absolutely be documenting the event so our community can see this beautiful place in Jacksonville and how much we all care about it.

Bring your smiles!!!
Enjoy the Water...
Elizabeth

Just park on the grass.  We may have to move cars to Catherine street if there gets to be too many.  We'll deal with that problem when we get to it.

Yeah, I'm down to help as well after Hogan is sparkling clean Saturday.

We should form a partnership in this regard.  A restored Hogans Greenbelt is important to Springfield, in my humble opinion.

L&N, who is the person in charge of the Neighborhood Clean Up at Spar?

dont ask me i have no idea. i just read it but i cant be there
The other clean up is the spar block captains. We do a monthly clean up in various locations throughout the neighborhood. If you're interested, stop by 9th & Main tomorrow around 9:30-10, we'll be meeting and also discussing up coming events.

The sad part is, in the very small area where we focused today(the same area we started cleaning a few weeks ago) there is still more of that buried in the creek bed.

The River Ocean people were fantastic!!!

We had a decently sized group today.  Thank you very much from the bottom of my heart to all those that participated.  We have some great ideas for the next cleanup as we make our way towards the river.

Sorry I didnt bring bagels.  The line at Panera was pretty long and I was running late.  I think I owe Mueller and Noone a bagel.  Miss Fixit is paying for them  ;D

I also appreciate all of those who worked to clean Hogans, and some of you then came over to the block captains clean and helped there too! I hope that when there's another clean up in the works, that we can coordinate it so it's the only major project taking place, and more of us can be there to help with it. I know for myself, that I would.

Some more stuff was taken off on a trailer and a few people were still pulling some stuff, but this is what we pulled out.

24 hours ago there were people making a scene happen at Hogans Creek, Dist 7. A spontaneous gathering of people who are excited about what can happen on our Waterways within our City of Jacksonville.

Lucasjj it was a pleasure meeting you and so so so many others. Your pictures capture a moment where you look at that pile of garbage and it was pulled out and hauled to that spot in just TWO hours. When Lucasjj showed up he had brought two shovels, waders, and PatODo was right behind him ready to break in that new pair of work gloves. We immediately teamed up and hauled out a roll of carpet that was right next to the bridge. A piece of visual blight that once we cut through the roots should allow for a restored shore bank. that's making it happen.

It was a low tide and as stated in a previous post a true work day. Team Skiles had brought their kayak and I had two in my van. My immediate thought was that Doug and his son Jacob have paddled this creek twice on the low tide the toughest paddle and when they finally get to experience it at a high tide that the thrill of that activity in those conditions will then have them pictured on a brochure saying Visit Jacksonville and our Hogans Creek.

By the way Jacob Skiles pulled out the unique find of the day. A bowling ball. And in my book he rolled a strike. And if he didn't make the strike everyone else that was there made the spare with him. It was a perfect 10.

Capt. Zissou in the top pic with Da Monster and other members of that team bring an energy that makes it fun. there is no doubt that the cleanup as it makes it way to the Maxwell House plant will be elevated from the younger members of this community that brings a desire and determination that will truly open this Waterway to its potential. You guys rock.

River Ocean what a team of reinforcements. Elizabeth, Marshal, Matt, I know I'm leaving some out. But your working the banks and picking up bottles and trash and you see a new face and introduce yourself and they say I'm with River Ocean. Thanks for helping. they get right in there.

CG7 was there with his family. This stealth under the radar leader brings that energy that you just want to continue to feed off of. They spotted a rabbit along the shoreline during the clean up. That is cool.

I know I can go on and on but Field I guess you did notice that I broke out my  15 year old or so Jaguar sweatshirt which is now like wearing a skin tight bicycle racing shirt. It was for you. At least it wasn't the sweatpants because then I may have been featured in one of the River Ocean pics. Inside joke for the River Ocean group.

That is the beauty about yesterday. And those who I didn't mention by name a true thank you to everyone. But when you look at the picture of garbage it only happened because everyone in their heart wants it to happen. When people show up there is a silence of purpose. Imagine this Waterway being open for the people of Jacksonville. It's happening.

After we finish with Hogan's Creek, Who's up for some cleaning - sprucing up - planting - weeding and such on I-95 from the railroad to State Street?  What a overgrown sewer our city has become... and it's not the citizens it's the services that refuse to do their jobs.

Various agencies take care of the Interstate and Federal Highways, and I ask you, why Coral Springs or Boca Raton can resemble Eden and Jacksonville resemble the south end of a northbound mule?

Bravo on Hogan's Creek team, let's start planning for HOGAN'S CREEK III.

Jacob cleaned the bowling ball yesterday and is reading to go bowling.  I'll post a picture of it when we go.  For the next cleanup, we will need a jon boat (or similar) to tow along with the kayaks so that we can go farther downstream.  There isn't as much room to walk along the shore in those areas.  But that is where much of the wildlife is.  And where many of the 'camps' are.

I noticed overwhelmingly that most of the trash was associated with the local 'residents'.  I'm not sure how or if we can make them leave.  But we could provide a garbage can and at the very least ask them to throw their bottles, cans and food wrappers in the garbage can.  And maybe teach them something about human sanitation practices...

Well, based on the amount of trash we pulled yesterday, that may take a while.  We still gotta get to the St. Johns and then double back all the way up to Shands.

However, when done, I'm with you Ock!

Another difference is we went from 7 people to over 20. It will be more challenging and fun as we make our way toward the river.

I was blown away by the number of people who came out to help.  There had to be about 30 people there, which is amazing.  The pile of trash in the pictures is really only about 2/3 of what we got.  A large chunk got hauled off in a trailer at around 10.  Everyone had a great attitude and was more than willing to get dirty.  I can't wait for Hogan's Creek III.

Not Sure.  For me personally, I can only do next Saturday.  If people are willing to do it on a Sunday, I can do March 13th or 27th.  My next free Saturday after next week is April 2nd.

We need to build some consensus to see when people are available. I'd be happy to go out with whoever for a couple hours next Saturday.  We could do more exploring than cleaning if you're not in the working mood.

I'm thinking about April 2nd for a huge clean up and also a sprucing up of Noone's launch.  Matt from River Ocean was proposing that we have a beautification day with some plants, shrubs, trash cans etc....

The clean ups can obviously go one without me there, but I do enjoy being a part of them.

March 12th, next BIG cleanup.  Mark your calenders.
BIG event with the potential of some important guests showing up.

Let's make it happen on the 12th guys/gals!!!!!

I'm in Tampa next weekend, but if you guys are serious about some tree planting, next Saturday Greenscape is holding their annual flowering tree sale at 7AM.  I'm having a buddy pick me up a few of the 10 gallons in my absence.  PM me and let's coordinate some efforts.  I'd like to donate a few that could be planted along the Springfield park portion of the beltway.  We're going to have to coordinate with some agencies/organizations to do so.

I'm going to see about gathering a few of you Sunday the 6th to get some of the waterborne cleanup knocked out.

I'm going to be involved with the River run so I can't make that day. But March 19 is the River Celebration and Hogans Creek will be a site. I'm working with Vivian Harrell and there may be two dump locations for this one. This is a city wide cleanup and Hogans Creek will not be a posted site. Primary reason is a safety concern. It will be for your die hard river and creek cleaners. Participants will receive a T shirt and participate in the festivities at RAM.

In the meantime Capt. If you want to do a low impact clean and just paddle the creek lets set up a time and do it. Its a huge city council and Mayoral campaign issue. Anyone else just let me know. We'll make it happen.

Freaking aye, my bad guys... I had the 5th marked down as the River Run.  Turns out I was supposed to write 'opening of RAM' on the 5th and 'River Run' on the 12th but got them the other way around.
Geeze I'm SO stupid!!!  Freaking dislexia!

Ok, the 5th... let's do it!  Write it down... in pen.

I'm going to hit up the St Johns Riverkeeper event @ Bold City on Monday and try to get some formal things set up for Hogans with SJRK.  Capt if you want to join, let me know!  That is if you can tear yourself away from that 'other' brewery across the street for a day.

Noone, totally forgot to return your call the other day buddy.  Give me a call back!
I want to talk to you about your contact at the Parks Dept re: tree donations/planting.

Channel 4 is willing to do a story on the clean up any day we're out there.  Since my next real availability is April 2nd, I put that date down as a possibility.

Field, I'd be down to do a little advocating at Bold City, but I might have to bring a flask of intuition.

Noone, PeeJay and I are down for a little paddle and clean up next Saturday if the tides are right.  How many kayaks do you have??

March 5TH, What a day to Make It Happen. High tide is at 10:30 lets do it from 9-11 and just break out the watercraft. Ideal conditions for everyone in the city especially for anyone running in the Spring elections. You will be just 17 days out.

March 19th is the city wide River Celebration and the get together after the cleanup will be at RAM this year. The cleanup and fun day on the water March 5Th for those who want to see Hogans Creek happen what an opportunity.

I'll contact Wayne Wood with RAM and I hope he wears his Boy Scout hat. I'll wear my RAM tshirt.

Someone needs to contact the Jacksonville Civic Council Creek Committee.

I'll contact Vivian Harrell with Keep Jacksonville Beautiful she had wanted to identify a second location and with the high tide and potential for a total watercraft cleanup option a location under an FDOT structure may be the ticket.

Ricker and the JMM this may be just what your talking about.

Also need to contact Jerry Spinks and Emily Lisska and anyone else interested in the history of Jacksonville.

Dan O'Byrne, Terry Lorrince, Tera Meeks, Paul Anderson with the JPA Paul you may want to bring a small barge for the garbage. (Just a little port humor, still looking forward to meeting you)

Hope whoever is running for Dist. 7 shows up.

Will also try and contact Dana Morton with the city. NM your right Dana is top shelf.

March 5Th another opportunity to meet and reunite with some awesome people who want to make a scene on our Waterway in our Downtown on our St. Johns River our American Heritage River.

How do you know they're not trying to pave over it?? ;)

A few people will be there Saturday morning making it happen. My goal is to tube down the creek with the outgoing tide at some point this summer.  Right now I'd hit shopping carts, broken bottles, chairs, and who knows what else.

It appears to be the boarded up building that is close to the clearing next to the creek. Met Vivian Harrell with Keep Jacksonville Beautiful and she noticed the survey stakes. You have to take it as a positive sign for the area.

Also the main cleanup site for the River Celebration will be at the area behind the old St. Lukes Hospital. There will be a roll up dumpster designated for that location. Spoke with Emily Lisska and appreciate the support from the Jacksonville Historical society. Capt Zissou wait until you see the access point under the FDOT overpass.

Capt Zissou,
This Sat. It will be a low tide. Pats on the back to you and anyone else if your still doing a cleanup. I'll get an inner tube and float down with you on the 5TH.
If you want to see McCoys Creek Sat. morning let me know and I'll bring the tandem.

March 19Th is the citywide River Celebration and Hogans Creek will be a location behind the Jacksonville Historical Society old St. Luke's Hospital. Its happening

Noone,

We went by the site for the March 19th clean up.  Holy Moly!  That's going to be difficult. Access there is tough and there's tons of stuff that needs to be gotten out.  Noone's Launch is actually starting to look pretty good.  Apparently the residents of the area call it Jumanji.

March 5th
This Saturday, come on out for another two hour cleanup 9-11pm.  We are slowly making our way towards the mouth of the river.  If we can get a 20 ft section cleaned this weekend, it will help greatly towards linking up to the cleanup site at Jax Historical Society on the 19th for the city-wide cleanup.

Who is going to make it happen with us on Saturday???

Capt., Lucasjj, anyone else. I'm down with the 5Th. High tide is around 10:30. Lets make it a fun low impact cleanup. Capt. I bought an inner tube so that whenever you want to be the first to tube down Hogans Creek you let me know because I want to join you. Your pioneering attempt and floating completion will rival those previous examples of our city forefathers like Mayor Hans Tanzler and his water skiing Downtown on our St. Johns River our American Heritage River.

More soon on Sat. cleanup.

I've got a tube in the garage that has seen more than it's fair share of Florida's springs.
Maybe a tube day is in order once Spring weather turns to humid Summer weather!  That's a great idea Stevsie.

Saturday 9am, lets meetup at Noone's Launch and make the 25 foot trek on foot over past where the chain link fence comes to a point heading towards the Hogans Rapids.

I put a call into Vivian Harrell with Keep Jacksonville Beautiful and will try to identify another garbage dump location. Councilman Gaffney feel free to jump in on this forum at any time. Being that its in your District and I'm in District 4. Also 22 days out from the next election.

Anyway, I just would like to work out the logistics for all of us so that we have an acceptable location for the pile of garbage and an additional access issue resolved.

The 19Th is a separate deal and we can't thank enough the permission that we have from the Jacksonville Historical Society for that parking location and dumpster drop.

Field, Looking forward to the 5Th. Have a call in to Sheriff Rutherford to seek and ask for a future potential access point that hugs the westside of the creek. Notice the parking.  Still haven't heard back from Vivian Harrell with Keep Jacksonville Beautiful. Have a call into Lisa Rinamon with the Mayors office too. There is going to be a ceremony at the new floating dock at RAM with Mayor Peyton arriving by boat. That event is important and I'd suggest that we find out when that is to take place and maybe try to attend before or after. It is important that Mayor Peyton get involved and the administration to identify where an access point needs to happen.

Does anybody know if Gaffney plans on doing anything.

We can meet up at Washington and Beaver but for those who haven't been on Hogans you will see that there is still a lot of cleaning left to do but getting to it will be challenging. Its happening.

How would people feel if we met at 8:30 instead of 9 and try to get over there by 10. Personally I think its important that everyone celebrates and recognizes this event and how it is such a positive moment in our cities history and build on the river access issue.

Lets paddle Hogans Creek at 8:30 be done by 9:30 light clean up and just identify where access points for the Public can happen now.

Its directly across the street from the Fire Station and diagonal to the Florida Dept of Law Enforcement building. You know the Fire Dept is there 24 hours. I saw plumbers there a while back. I thought they were moving forward and opening up the building.

Springfield? No worries? I have no idea what is involved in a demolition but it is just totaly gone. Do you need a permit? Is JEA involved to remove the power lines?

I think its a shame. Miss Fixit or Lake not sure which thread its on but SLG owns the property. Did they own the house too? Who knows what the plan is for that property?

It was the concrete building that was closest to the creek. I know I've got some pictures of the building somewhere. It was a two story. I looked at it where you could live on the top floor and rent kayaks on the bottom. That's how I looked at it.  An urban zoning opportunity.

Lately I've been taking everyone kayaking behind the old St. Lukes hospital. You can access that location 24/7 doesn't matter if its a low or high tide. Better location.
City Life if you get a chance go down and see if that is an original street car pole next to the old railroad ties behind St. Lukes.

I know that may not be part of Historic Springfield but if your a resident of Dist.7 I'd be saying WTF
(Wheres The Fire).

I'll be kayaking and doing a cleanup in the morning behind the 2Nd most important Waterfront Public Access location in the Core Exchange District.  And that will be behind the Casket company and old St. Lukes Hospital.

The Aug 31 Waterways FIND 2 1/2 hour meeting is the primary motivation of why I'll be there tomorrow and pulling out that shopping cart that the Capt, Field and PeeJayEss saw just south of the FDOT overpass. I'll give it my best shot.

Downtown Watercraft activity is ready to explode. HUGE announcements will be coming soon. Anyone want to join me in an ACA (American Canoe Association) class 9/17 and 18?

Its late and I'll post when I'm loaded up. I'll bring an extra kayak. Jacksonville.....Lets Make it Happen.

I'll be parked in the van down by the river close to the yet still unidentifiable abandoned welding project, Casket factory advertising pole, Railroad yard light pole, or street car trolley pole that may be the only still remaining example. Then again maybe not.

Everyone, have a great weekend.

Yesterday at Hogans Creek was a paddle from a launch site that has the potential to be the 2Nd  picture post card behind the number 1 picture post card that would be our PROMISED 680' Downtown Public Pier for the city of Jacksonville.

Positive cleanup then it was time for fun. Put in the single. When I arrived about 9:15 it was just the last of the outgoing tide. There is something about being part of our 310 mile St. Johns River our American Heritage River and when the flow of the river catches that period of just slack tide and then reverses itself you are standing on the bank and just witnessing something that is very special. Subtle yet Powerful.

That was my cue to now say lets have some fun. The paddle out going against the incoming tide was subtle because it has just turned. Beautiful sky light breeze and just nobody around in this dead zone. The shopping cart depth meter chart is showing both wheels fully exposed. Going through the Maxwell House plant its low tide and a stark contrast to the last paddle where the parking lot was flooded and we had spotted a jellyfish thanks to Hurricane Irene. I find a labled brick from Louisiana along the bank. Just interesting.

The bird life is active. Herons are literally just picking away at the baitfish that are now entering the filled exposed flats that are there during a low tide. I saw the plover darting between the concrete chunks and am just amazed at his flight which is an accelerated rate above the water in contrast to the herons who seem to jump in the air and have to gather themselves before there flight is a picture of beauty.

In the kayak I just hovered above the flats and was able to clean some of the visual debris that can be seen from the Bay St. Bridge. After loading my kayak with garbage I paddle out to the river. Popping out into the St. Johns there is a big boat heading south.

The paddle back in is swift coming in with the tide. The shopping cart depth meter chart is showing one wheel exposed and the water up to the bottom of the other. The tire is still in the Mulberry tree. What a productive two hours. Work and Fun.

WOW!!

What an awesome group of dedicated people doing a great job of cleanup.  Scary that there was such an accumulation of trash in the waterway.

The next clean up is set for May 19th at 9am. We will meet near the intersection of Stockton and McCoys Creek Blvd. No registration needed. Wear close-toes shoes and waterproof boots if you are able. I am literally disgusted with how much trash is in that picture. It is a shame that it was allowed to get that bad in the first place. I give a lot of props to those taking the time to take care of this area. I might try and swing by during the next one and say hello to the group if time permits you all deserve a congratulations.

It wasn't Hogans Creek but the 5/18/14 McCoys Creek cleanup had me kayaking a couple of 100' and at the end it is safe to report that the groups that are cleaning up this Waterway can use the 1970's Coke jingle "It's the Real Thing." when talking about their cleanup efforts.

Enjoyed seeing some old friends and meeting some new ones. Shannon did a great job of welcoming and supporting everyone that participated. Sarah and Dunncan you guys rock.

The ICC cleanup will be happening tomorrow throughout our community and I'll be at Hogans Creek behind the Jacksonville Historical Society Building and Casket factory. I'll be bringing a kayak and the fishing poles. Caught a red last year during the cleanup.
It is 9-11 and as Vivian Harrell would say "Hogans Creek, it's not a fluff site."
A positive event.
