The branding campaign includes a new overall logo for the authority, new logos for each of its four airports, the renaming of three of the airports and new websites. JAA was created in 2001 by the Florida Legislature and has been using the same brand identity since then.
"The new 'umbrella style' logo concept integrates a more recognizable symbol of aviation while adding an element to represent each of the four airports in the system," JAA Executive Director/CEO Steve Grossman said. "The connection to aviation in the old logo was less obvious and didn't visually represent a four airport system icon."
The goal of the rebranding effort is to create a consistent brand across the four airports owned and operated by the Authority; Jacksonville International Airport, Cecil Field, Craig Airport and Herlong Airport. The rebranding effort will also be used as an opportunity to further educate the public about the distinctive differences between the four airports and the regional impact of the Authority.
Three of the four airports will be renamed as a result of the rebranding effort. Cecil Field will become Cecil Airport and Herlong Airport will become Herlong Recreational Airport. Craig Airport will be renamed Jacksonville Executive Airport (JAXEX) since its location not only makes air travel more accessible for executives, but also makes the Jacksonville business community more accessible to the world.

Ok Im feeling this! but I though Cecil Field was going to be a spaceport?? I mean thats what it says on their website. The logo is sexy, not too backwood. I had a dumb idea about connecting JIA & JPA cruise terminal via a people mover system. Does that exist aware in Florida? Where one can leave a plane walk to a platform and take a train to the cruise port? With Jax location compared to the rest of united states.
Is it just me or does that logo remind anyone else of the Dames Point Bridge?
I like it.
Yeah, right... IF IT AIN'T BROKE DON'T FIX IT...
Like the DAME POINT BRIDGE is the Broward
or
JACKSONVILLE TERMINAL is susposed to be the JRTC...
CECIL FIELD isn't likely to be Cecil Airport in our lifetime.
OCKLAWAHA
Like anybody cares what logo the JAA uses on its stationary?
Seriously, how much did we spend on this "rebranding" in the middle of a recession?

It kinda looks like the old Eastern Airlines logo tipped sideways.
Just what we need.........more and more waste for nothing! Let JAA take up a collection to pay for any changes they wish to make! Bet this would die in a heart beat!

Yeah, unless it's going to include a statement that the TSA won't be hasseling peeps...I don't care.
The only one that makes any sense is changing Craig's name to Jax Executive because that is it's main use.
JIA's website is an incredible improvement over what it was, even better than Nashville's http://www.flynashville.com/

I was previously of this mindset, then I married the Creative Director for LPS. It's amazing, even in a B2B company like LPS or JAA, how much of a difference good branding can make. If it helps us recruit business, I'm fine with it.

Call for change if you want but the people manning the lines do not make the rules and are not jerks.
Well I guess I should say they are not jerks for following the rules. I am sure some are jerks and some are nice.

Exactly! Sometimes I wonder what situation these TSA critics rather be in, going through a frisk/body scan, or be on a hijacked airliner.
Sigh. More names to unlearn. I'm still saying Independent Life Building, Gulf Life Towers and Gator Bowl.
Craig Field is going to be particularly hard since I practically grew up there, worked there and got my license there. (Jacksonville Executive Airport, Jacksonville Executive Airport, Jacksonville Execu........)
Do you think anyone thought of the acronym the new name forms??
Jacksonville Executive Airport
JEA, JEA, JEA
Easy to remember but.... ::)
Maybe they need to "rebrand" JEA to the Jacksonville Utilities Authority since they do it all now.
Why all the complaints here? The only major thing I see here to complain about is Craig's but I don't understand what the rest of the complaints are about.
I thought this forum was about making Jacksonville a better city for the 21st century? That's not going to happen unless you have change. Am I visiting the wrong forums?
Change includes marketing, which is standard for any successful company out there.

I am actually very pleased with the renaming of Craig. Craig??? Are you serious? Executive in the title already explains the purpose and role of the airport. Having Recreational in Herlong's name delineates that one as well. Executive sounds more progressive and inline with what other corporate air parks have as their names.
And a new logo is always fresh and does wonders to a company's image (provided they don't screw up the logo). A new logo is almost like presenting a new company, which gets people talking and brings about visibility. I also happen to like the new logo. It's not very stuffy/professional looking, but it brings attention and has good use of shapes/colors. (I am actually glad it's not a pure blue or one color logo)

Whose complaining? (besides CSFOltz--a given anytime money is spent) Everyone likes it.
I believe chriswufgator complained as well
The only one that should stay the same in Cecil Field, which rolls off the tongue better than Cecil Airport.
Gentlemen............a cowpie called a silk purse is still a cow pie! I don't have a problem with anyone renaming anything, but have to point out JIA is a City function..........paid for by the City.....is it not? Craig Airport is a private facility and just changing a name will not extend the runways! This looks like another end run around what was promised at Craig and nothing else! Jacksonville International Airport is just a name.....no customs facility there for outside arrivals from outside of the US! City is $58 Million Dollars in the hole, Metropolitan Park, Riverwalk upgrade and now renaming these spots............maybe someone can tell me just how the heck we are suppposed to pay for this along with everything else? We keep spending and we keep getting deeper, property taxes have been raised for the past two years, thanks Johnny, and the value is still descending and you guys wonder why I keep saying "WTF"?
QuoteCraig Airport is a private facility
Actually, no. Criag Airport is under JAA (as is JIA, Herlong and Cecil). JAA leases space at Criag to the operators. JAA generates its own revenues.
That JAX logo is a typographical nightmare. I don't even think that's helvetica... I think it's Arial.
Also that little round half airplane thing (and the whole web site for that matter) looks like it was made with someone's feet.

The logo is better than Atlanta"s thats for sure. Has that bluish teal going on. Depending on how one looks at it.

Your in the right forum, but there is a lot of politcal in fighting between a few members. Everyone is for progress in Jax until politics comes up, that when they start fighting in here. The logo IS sexy though.

If they are branding to define, shouldn't Craig be Jacksonville Executive Army National Guard Airport?
Don't print the stationery yet! Craig Airport will keep Craig (a Jacksonville Native who died at Pearl Harbor) in the airport name, per Jacksonville.com.
QuoteIt will most likely be changed to either Jacksonville Executive at Craig Airport or Jacksonville/Craig Executive Airport, Grossman said.

I personally prefer the latter, but glad to see them keep Craig's name and clarify the airport's function by adding "Executive".
