Oh give me a break, DVI. What they're no doubt pushing for is to have street parking enforced/ticketed and the garages open to collect everyone's money.

So this goes out to DVI: You're not fooling anyone.

The first parking ticket I get when I'm at a downtown club will be the last time I go to a downtown club. Parking tickets are already the reason that I don't go downtown during the daytime, and who wants to be trying to hang out with their friends and have a drink only to have to go feed quarters into a meter every 45 minutes?

The only people who go down there normally are the captive audience who work for COJ or its affiliated organizations, or their employer works down there. That's it. This is why all the businesses closed down already. You already screwed the pooch, there is no guesswork, we already know how your ideas turned out. Failure.

The new businesses opening down there are...DVI: LISTEN TO THIS...the ones that are open during times that the asnine parking policies are not enforced. Haven't you learned anything from that?

Clubgoers are not a captive audience, and the only thing you're going to accomplish is killing off the one block worth of growth that is actually occurring down there.

I totally agree with you. I'm just reporting the FUD I was pointed to.

The courthouse parking lot is open at night(rarely full on non-special event weekends) and I believe the Water Street garage is open at night as well(as is the private lot next to Suntrust and soon-to-be Landing parking lot next to the Omni).

There isn't a physical parking problem at night, and I really think the parking 'perception' problem(which is very real) is slowly being chipped away.

We as a city have had these before and the results were great for parking lot owners, not so great for business owners
QuoteEstablish a parking authority

And I hope that this quote isn't referring to economic incentives b/c the parking lot owners already have an outstandingly sweet deal with the city
QuoteEncourage and incentivize private parking operators in the core to make monthly-only parking facilities available for evening and event parking for visitors.

That being said, I really like this idea
QuoteStudy and consider innovative approaches to parking, such as multi-stop valet parking, which allows visitors to drop off their vehicles at one location and pick them up at other locations.
and think this has started to happen with the nice blue parking signage that popped up within the last year but there is still opportunity for more signage
QuoteImplement parking wayfarer signage throughout the core of Downtown and take steps to improve signage at parking facilities.
.

For the most part, DVI does a good job IMHO.  But there is still opportunity to be better and to DVI's credit, they are very open to feedback from my experience.  Of course, Mr Moran has more experience than I.

I do vote for the pee video as an FYI  :)
