Hey I think I broke the code, Bosnia has a currency called the MARKA, and then there is the  Mozambican METICAL.

Maybe it's not in US Dollars? Might also be a clue as to where to find Peyton AFTER his reign ends...

Ock, come live up here in downtown Atlanta for a while and tell me whether you hold the same view of the homeless.  Don't get me wrong, they are people and I volunteer at a "Samaritan House" that teaches them comp skills, helps them build a resume and find jobs, and helps them wash clothes, etc. (and it's only open during daytime hours), but I refuse to give any homeless ON THE STREET money or attention.  There are too many places for them to go for help, they CHOOSE to be beggars many times and they often DO harass innocent tax paying charity giving volunteering citizens who deserve a thanks instead of a 'gimme' something.

Seattle homeless are way more aggressive than the Atlanta homeless. IMO the bums know who to approach, who to harrass & who to leave alone. Its kinda like a sales job. They sell guilt, either you are buying are not. Ive spent enough time in Woodruff Park & Hemming Plaza to know my nickles & dimes wont help them, THEY actually have places to go for food, shelter & help. Plus when in the city I only keep my debit card.

Could be because the bum's in Seattle like those in the Rose City of Portland have such a limited time to get r done before the next rain. The last year I was in Portland, 2,132 people fell off their bicycles and drowned!

Updated plan for the fountain & park area that I just received from COJ Public Works:

It will be nice to have it operational again.

This looks good. Are they going to retain the Kings Road/Cowford Historical marker?

I cant wait to see the finish project. I look out the window at work everyday and hope I see it complete. Does anybody know what they plan on doing with treaty oak park? Are there any renderings floating around? The only thing I have seen them do so far its add paved walkways through the park.  I wonder how Metrojacksonville missed that project.

If you'll enter the words "Treaty Oak Park" into our search window, you'll get a whole page of articles we have done on this park, including the improvements.

Friendship Fountain's new pumps get a work out

People out for their morning walk along the St. Johns river downtown were treated to preview of what's to come. Workers at Friendship Fountain Park were testing the water jets, including the inside jets that haven't worked for several years.

The $3.1 million Friendship Fountain renovation project started in August.  New pumps, pipes and electrical systems are being installed for the 46-year-old fountain.

In addition to renovating the fountain, a grassy area is being added along with seating, curving sidewalks and accent lighting.

The project is scheduled to be completed next month.

Yep, the fountain is active right now. Even that famous inner ring is working. Can't wait to see the lighting.

The highest in the world again?  In the States?  In Florida?  In North Florida?

Dapperdan

Theya re just testing it right now. I am not sure if they plan on raising itto full height or not.

Dog Walker

There used to be a wind gauge on the pump house that would limit the height of the fountain to prevent water from blowing all over the place.  When the wind was calm that sucker would be really up there.

Looking forward to seeing it working again as I was there when it opened.
