Wouldn't you say our skyline would look sooo much better if the modis sign was taken off and the building was left blank. Its like a big billboard on our skyline, ugh!
SunRail, Florida's smart transit idea. :) (now up on the chopping block) :(

Isn't the building's actual name still Independent Square or something like that?

signs on buildings are great. Especially Indepenedent Square. The top of that building would look so blank with nothing on it. Just put the Independent name back up there!

What is modis anyways, its like a no-name company

I take it you don't work in IT, as least not dealing with employment.  Modis (and its sister division Idea Integration), are part of Adecco Group, one of the largest IT Staffing and Consulting firms in America.

I also think that some buildings fit with names on the top, and that is one of them (AT&T and CSX are two others), and look like a blank billboard without a sign.  Others, like BofA, don't really fit with a sign.

I said the same thing about the modis sign after watching part of a dinosaur jr video filmed on the southbank, it really stuck out in it for some reason.

I never knew what Modis was either, until I worked for their parent company MPS Group, but i'd imagine it will come down soon since they're bailing downtown.

The building name is a perk for a company that moves into a downtown building and takes up a  good portion of its space or floors. I am sure Modis is not the only company in that building but they pay the building owners the most money. Why would you not want an incentive for businesses to locate downtown?

But how is it going to be advertised to the city if the name of the building is changed to a generic name?

St. Auggie

I say replace it with an engine for the new CSX rail car signage.  We can make the entire skyline a theme.

I say put a large digital LED sign on top of it! and show the Jaguars games live!!! that will show Bill Brinton!!!!!

no

Plus, the large sections on the top of the building were constructed as such to accomodate signage. I think it would look like a large, blank wall on top of on of the most unique towers in the SE.

I can see both angles, but it also seems like it would encourage companies to feel more at ease to come and go if the name of the company isn't on the building. Less pressure to stay if the name of the building you've been in hasn't been engraved in the mind of people for years. I agree that it's there are problems with changing the name every few years, but there are problems with the flip side too.

I just don't get why their logo has a macron above the "o". I mean, it's pretty standard in English (and other Germanic languages) that a single vowel that is followed by a single consonant and another vowel is pronounced what we call "long" (which in English is now a diphthong rather than a difference in length). It's instinctive for us: the "e" in "code" marks the sound of the "o" different from "cod", likewise the "tt" in "ratting" marks the sound of the "a" different from "rating." We can clearly see it's not spelled "Moddis"!! Argh!! (The rantings of a language nerd. :P)
