Ok I just wanna be real with you folks. Tallahassee has served me well for a long time. I was born here and now im 24. I went to FSU and graduated from there.

But, for the last year I have been out of work. I have applied high and low, and not had any luck thus far. I know part of the reason is not just the city, or the economy, its tough out there for everyone.

However, I have reached my breaking point. Im tired of applying day after day, following up with calls, going in person speaking with managers and dropping off my resume in person.

The job market is just locked up here...

I know that its tight everywhere, but I would hope moving to a larger city that their would me more opportunities available..

I am well versed in tech and internet, and have a passion for this area.

In your best opinion and compared to the rest of your friends now currently employed or unemployed how is the job market in jax?

My grandparents live in Jax and my family lives here in Tallahassee.

I really think its time for a change. I want to be optimistic but its so hard coming up short for so long. Patience is not one of my strengths, but its been a year and I know their must be something I could do.

Thanks for your responses.

I Like Tallahassee but would advise you come explore Jax, and form your own opinion.... Put some resumes out ... See how you like it here when you visit.. learn patience :) just my 2 cents,,(no retail value)

There are always more opportunities in a bigger city....but also more "fish in the sea".

That said, I have lived in both Tally and Jax...and am very happy here

^ What they said.  Spend a couple days here handing out your resume (if you can swing it) and check out some apartments.  You can live here just as inexpensively as Tally and if you were to get bored with one area of town down the road just switch!  Its like a whole new city every time.  Also, I'd recommend staying within or along the I295/9A beltline to reduce time spent commuting.

Thanks for the responses... Maybe I should set up a day, stake out some businesses I want to apply at and make a day out of it.

By chance, do any of you know of any place hiring?

Thanks

TD,  There are a lot of tech jobs here in Jax.  I just met someone who was hired from Tally (state gov't) into the IT dept of Lender Processing Services here.

College towns can be tough job markets because of students working part time and graduates who want to stick around in their college town.

AT&T (just a suggestion) sends me weekly ,via email , job postings in the Jacksonville area.  You said your Grandparents live here ...so stay with them (suggestion) and pass out the resumes. Also gives you a chance to explore the City.  Jason suggested wisely, to locate with close access to the major thoroughfares .. I would agree..  I live in an area of the City , with the Beaches only a few minutes drive away... I like it here, but theres some good areas all over.. AVOID Baymeadows  West of Southside Blvd and East of 95.. Rough area.

Thanks for the ideas...

I wouldn't mind working for a cell phone company.. thats my area of expertise...

My grandparents live in Orange Park which is nice, and close to everything via i295 access, and Roosevelt blvd as well as blanding.... I can get into downtown easily if I needed to living in that area..

I would really really love to live in Riverside!! but i know thats a pipe dream and very expensive!

I love that area its so beautiful..

But before I start lusting over areas to live I have to find a job... which seems to be the hardest part.

Timkin

Well.....theres lots of cell phone companies in Jax.... AT&T has stores all over the place, as well as T-Mobile, Metro PCS ,etc.  I  have no clue of the payscale of these places..

AT&T is scheduled to lay off a whole bunch of cellphone technical people in September as well as their U-Verse backbone installation people.  Talk inside the company is that management wants to downsize the landline business and sell it off so that they can become just a wireless company.

Have no clue as to the accuracy of the talk.
