Find out why JTA's plans for downtown could mean the end of Art Walk, as we know it today.

It's always the same old story.  The City comes out in defense of their BRT plan saying, "we're just giving the people what they want".  WHAT PEOPLE!?  Who in the hell are they talking to that is so jazzed about this ridiculous, expensive and unnecessary program?!  Let them show themselves, stand and be counted with City Hall.  It's insane.  The entire Core has been up in arms about this issue since it was announced and still they want to move forward.  This is no longer a political faux pas.  The light is on but no one is home evidently.  It makes me sick.

I agree - this is just plain nuts - make sure you all contact JTA right above the comments to voice your displeasure.

Dear JTA:

Why did you build the Skyway? Why is the Rosa Parks the only Transit Center we have since the Skyway has at least 2 other ends to it? What is the Rosa Parks for and why did you build it? Why does anyone think you built that for cross-platform transfers? Why did we have to rebuild the Skyway? Who payed for the Monorail conversion when we could have gone with a sky-train of our own? Couldn't the Sky-train have been expanded at ground level into the suburbs? Why did this not come up? Who silenced Rail? Why was the Monorail pushed on us? Wasn't the whole thing going to be free? I seem to remember something about it being a "Free Gift, a Federal Demonstration Project," isn't that what you told the press? There was a well published warning that you were up to no good, funny how that voice was silenced. Could it be that we were sold a bill of goods?

Further, Why didn't we build the heritage trolley system in 1981 and become the first city to ever do that? Couldn't we have used a Heritage Trolley as the corner stone of Light Rail? We could have built 30 miles of "High Priced-High Speed" light rail for the cost of that Skyway, but you had a better idea, why? I want to know who in the JTA or City administration gets their shorts in a bunch every time that four letter "RAIL" word is mentioned? Why was the "Trolley" blown off because you told the City it would "HAVE" to compete with automobile traffic? 30 miles JTA, 30, and yes, that IS based on the cost of the San Diego Trolley, 15 miles built at about the same time for half our Skyway's cost. Did you know about that JTA? Did you study San Diego? Are all of your "Expensive Light-Rail" studies limited to Trolleys on elevated railroads, or subways? Do you really think the public in Jacksonville or anywhere else would prefer a bus to a LRV? What about a Heritage Trolley? Would anyone out there prefer to ride a bus to a historic streetcar? Really? I just want to know where these ideas come from? Do you have a "think tank"? Why in the World would anyone call it a "Think" tank? Does anyone at JTA know what a Heritage Trolley is?

Really, isn't it time for some explaining, before we jump into another Billion dollar fiasco?

Art Walk was great last night.  Did anyone else go? It is always nice to see do many people out enjoying Downtown on a Wednesday night.

I for one, like buses! I got into this business through the good agency of Trailways...back in the day! Just imagine, a parade of buses AND the Art Walk together.

"Transportopia"

Bus, artwork, bus, music, bus, wheeze, bus, artwork, bus, cough, bus, ahem, bus, gag, bus, choke, bus, bus, bus, bus, bus, bus...

"Make mine a Sweet Tea dusted with carbon please..."

HEAVEN!
