City Council has approved the $10 million incentive package for the Laura Street Trio and Barnett project:

Molasky is officially on the clock.

60 months to completion in order to get $8 million in grants.

It's a good day for Jacksonville.

Nice. Some of the permits for the Barnett have already been approved, so we should see some construction activity happening soon.  Also, nice to see 9th and Main move forward.

This is so exciting! Does anybody know if all three buildings are going to be worked on at once or are they doing them one at a time?

thelakelander

Evenutally, there will be some overlap but work on the Barnett will begin first.

Wow; it's about time; and...I like the way they are ensuring that the promised work gets done or near done first before giving them any money, grants, and other incentives. THIS is the way to do business. Hold them accountable while the work is getting done and being done; don't give them the money, they spend it or waste or fraud it and then the work doesn't get done and they file bankruptcy or some other proceeding to free them from their obligations. YAY!!!!!!!

Question about the garage the City of Jacksonville has to build for this project...Is it possible to develop it like the Parador garage by the Landing with space set aside for future retail/residential use?

acme54321

Retail is required down there but they can always ask for a deviation.  If they do in this case I don't think they will have much trouble getting one considering everyone wants to get this thing rolling.

thelakelander

Unless the plan has recently changed, this garage will not be built like the Parador garage.  It will be constructed with retail included and a pad for future infill development. Here's the old conceptual plan:

I don't know guys.  wouldn't a days inn and a longhorn steakhouse instead be a better fit for Jax?  they could probably put a self storage place in the Barnett with a drugstore in the lobby.  this is all just a little too ambitious.  gotta crawl before you walk ya know
