In the classical sense, in America, Conservative is Liberal and Liberal is Conservative.

I use the "N" word when it is appropriate (the "N" word as a metaphor, of course).  If you don't like it, call a cop or sue me.

Patriot Act was an extraordinary measure taken in an extraordinary time, and I believe there was a sunset on it. I am surprised it is still in effect considering the left leaning mixed up federal leadership we are now suffering under.   Makes one wonder if 09/11 was in fact a scheme cooked up by the Socialist Democrats and their acolytes.  What was that line I heard about the Commies or the Mujiis or whomever that it's just a matter of time?  Speaking of time, you have a lot more of that than I do.  I still have cakes in the oven.  Please research and report for the gang.

I was admittedly ambivalent regarding the Patriot Act at the time it was implemented. I even found myself defending it on occasion. I was wrong to do so. It was wrong to grant an executive such arbitrary power with such clear potential for abuse.

Seeing it repealed or lapsed was one of the potential positives I hoped for with the new administration. We as citizens need to be more vocal about having it done away with.

I'm sorry but limits on speech have gone too far. We have a law in Florida against "Verbal Assault against an LEO" which means that if a cop pisses me off and I call him a jerk I can be charged for it. No threat of violence, no other action, just speech/opinion alone is sufficient.

I'm sorry it's just ridiculous. Free speech is the cornerstone of this country but the public's right to engage in it has now been eroded to the point of virtual extinction. So I guess Jerry and I agree on the problem, however, we do not agree on the source. Obama hasn't repealed the entirety of the patriot act, something I'm gravely disappointed in him for, however the current trend of allowing law enforcement / government to do whatever the fcuk they want really took off following 9/11. By the time people woke up around 2005/2006 and realized the movie "Wag the Dog" had become reality, it was already too late to get back what was lost.

What statute is that?  I am not aware of such a law.

Also, could someone tell me how the Patriot Act has anything to do with freedom of speech?

Freedom of speech should never be infringed upon.   To stifle it even a little negates the entire notion of being free and sets a dangerous precedent that an authority exists to grant or remove said right in whole.


Haven't we figured out by now that the left wing and right wing are just 2 heads of the same Creature from the Capitol Hill?
