Its no secret that I have criticism but empathy for the guy.

He is doing what he thinks is right, whether or not any of the rest of us agree.

So did Governor Pontius Pilate, Count Vladislaus Dragulia, Poet Bonnie Parker, and Prime Minister Hideki Tojo...

At least Peyton is in famous company for his legacy!

The ungrounded and inaccurate information in cyberspace would not be much of an issue if we had a mayor with vision and the communication skills to express his vision.
I don't know why the mayor is throwing stones at gadflies who were powerless to stop his money machine from buying the mayor's office for two terms.  If the criticism of his tenure in office is all 'misinformation,' why doesn't he explain to the city what he has done to truly help Jacksonville move forward.
He promised to be the best mayor for a city who wanted fiscal conservatism.  Instead, he presided over the slackest time in our city's recent history.  And, don't blame the economy.  The way he promised us the moon in his first race, you would have thought that he was going to attract a dozen Fortune 500 companies and that rainbows were going to come shooting out of all of his orifices.  His saving grace is that Jacksonville would rather gargle with razor blades than vote for a Democrat for mayor.

In the 8 years of his terms, I am sure Lake or Stephen has this somewhere, Peyton will have taken the budget from 500 - 700 million to over 1 billion. So in the good times it is growing and the bad times it still grows. For this runaway spending and the decentralization of control in departments, he gets an F from me for his terms. Nice guy, but the results over the 8 years show he could have seen this trainwreck from the beginning, but did nothing, for that and surrounding himself with GREEN city managers, I do not see his terms as a success. Not to mention, no discussion about critical mass downtown. I have more planning skills in the gum under my shoe than he does in all his 8 years.
And, that $115 will save Jacksonville from financial ruin. - Mayor John Peyton

"This is a game-changer. This is what I mean when I say taking Jacksonville to the next level."
-Mayor Alvin Brown on new video boards at Everbank Field
