I can't quote it as fact, but a majority of the people I have talked to in certain business proposals i seem to be getting the popular answer... "first baptist won't ever let that happen." From what I understand a majority of the city's top officials are actually members there. I don't know how much truth it is, but when I talked to Walgreens once about moving into the old library they said they looked into it before, but the population of residents needed to be at a certain number. So I shifted focus to residence and thats where first baptist kept coming up. I do certainly hope that the things I have heard about it is false, but if it happens to be true maybe a little citizen uprising can motivate them to get on board.

Its pretty much all mythology, Auditore.  First Baptist is a suprisingly friendly place and the pastors would like to see downtown succeed and be part of a bustling urban environment.

Like I said just all what I have head from 3rd party. I have never had the opportunity to meet anyone that runs that congregation. I usually don't even bother when it comes to mega churches as the staff seems to be inaccessible sometimes. But thank you for the input it is good to hear both sides sometimes.

Stephen, can you tell me if the outreach efforts being made by the church include in any way a potential change in attitude about the gay members of our community and their rights.  I know Pastor Brunson was very vocal in his position against the GLBT community.  He feared them using the churches facilities etc.  I am just wondering how sincere their desire is to include all of our citizens when embracing our downtown.  Also, what is their view on the bars and lounges.  No snark intended here.  Just asking where they stand today on these issues.
