As one of the "many people" Capt. Z earlier referred to, I need to clear up his misguided implication. I was a fan of Metro long before I felt I had anything to contribute, and joined in order to do just that. I've never had the desire to make sarcastic comments about other people's posts, so until I had something I felt worthy of talking about, I kept quiet. Would that Capt Z felt the same. I don't see the hilarity in sharing what I honestly feel. And though it wasn't written to or for him, if my/our posts made the condescending Capt. smile, so be it. The labs are a new and welcome addition to our Theatre scene. I appreciate the opportunity to honestly discuss my experience with them in Metrojax. I'm also looking forward to reading Capt. Z's fascinating independent comments on Culture related topics. Or perhaps I already have.

I made the comment on this thread, but I have noticed it across the board on many different threads throughout MJ.  “Glamour Shots” may not have been the best description, but I couldn’t come up with the proper term for the premeditated self portrait avatars that have been used by the newer users of this site.  I think it is a very candid and public identifying, which is usually unfound on sites like these.

Wow, it only took 2 posts for you to stoop to my level.

QuoteI've never had the desire to make sarcastic comments about other people's posts,

Then I suppose I forced you against your will to make such scathing remarks about me. For that I apologize.  No hard feelings I hope.

Re Capt Z's last-- If that's where someone wants to play, I have no trouble immersing myself in the mud & guts & beer. With that said, Understand. Done.

As it happens, I fancy myself an actor.

Friends have long suggested it due to what they have described as an "expressive" face. (whatever that means)

I've never tried it, and likely never will, which is due to my own admitted cowardess. That and the fear of failing... or worse; being successful.

Thanks Stephen. I wasn't sure what door I'd opened when I read the first 2/3 comments, but alls well that ends well. I was talking to Josh Taylor yesterday about Metro and our local theatre. How wonderful it would be to generate some real city wide press involvement. And it seems to me that MJ is the perfect tool to reach our untapped audience. We all bitch about "culture" in Jax, but that's usually about as far as it goes. Here's a chance....
In any case, thank you sooo much for opening Metrojax to a myriad of possibilities. Theatre practitioners and our city deserve it.

Ive been using a premeditated self portrait avatar for hundreds of years, jn.  I rather like it!

I will only say that my avatar and my name are me, therefore if I say something here you know I said it, and I stand behind it.

Captain Zissou

Devlin, I respect the transparency.

If I could do my name over, I probably would.  As it is, I was 18 when I made this name on whatever that old forum was (who kicked us all off for critiquing the moderators) and The Life Aquatic was popular at the time.

Thus, I will forever be known as "The Captain".  In reality I'm a 23 year old financial analyst for a local company.

Thanks Captain  Let me ask you something how do you feel about a professional theatre company in Jax?  What would it take for you to attend (if you don't already)? and if you don't mind all the questions, what kind of things would you like to see?  I am looking for honest feedback to enhance our goals for the year, we have some things set but also some flexibility and I am extremely interested in what people want to see, after all we strive to serve our audience without whom we are nothing...

devlinmann

I started another thread titled "what to do?" to solicit suggestions for productions, I invite everyone to please drop their ideas there.

thanks

Captain Zissou

I'm not sure what it would take for me to attend. Unfortunately, I haven't attended many of the live performances our city has to offer.  I was actually thinking about that on the way to work.  I saw a sign for the Marilyn Monroe exhibit at Moca Jax, and wondered what kind of art scene our city could realistically support at our current size and level of sophistication.  I applaud any of the pioneers willing to take the risk, but our current market seems to favor monster trucks over monologues.

Attending an improv show would be a lot of fun.  Anything geared towards humor or lightheartedness with the option of beer would get my intention.  I'm in touch with my emotions, but I don't know if I could sit through anything too dramatic.

devlinmann

Thanks for the input CZ.

I hope that more people will weigh in on this...

JaxNative68

I wish I could be more transparent with my avatar and screen name as well, but I do not want to jeopardize the company I work for by some of the comments I have made and will continue to make against our city leaders.

I agree with the Captain on anything geared towards lighthearted humor; hell even black comedy is up my alley.  Judging by the posts of many people on this site, there isn’t enough of it going around, because they take everything way to serious.  I would also be interested in family entertainment as well, I have a 7 year old who loves theatrical performances, and we have taken him to productions both locally and on Broadway.  Unfortunately the local events offered in this wheelhouse seem far and few between.

devlinmann

thank you jaxnative68...

we may have something for you soon...

Since I've been in the thick of this site's discussions, let me attempt to explain my responses. Re yr above quote: Yes, I take acting seriously, but not myself. Nevertheless, I found Capt. Z's comments insulting, and would suggest that if your motives on a subject you hold near & dear were sarcastically questioned, you might also respond.
I'm looking forward to future topic related posts.
