this will do a lot in terms of connecting the core to the new brooklyn areas.  could be just what we need to launch la villa.  and if it sucks we can just knock it over and build something else.  this is jacksonville after all.

The Park Street corridor could easily become very vibrant once the central park development takes off.  All of the old warehouses through there would make great lofts.

clearly many of the posters on this forum were correct in stating that very little could ever be built near the Prime Osborn!

Yes, they were right.  Nothing has changed.  Other than this lot, there has only been one block immediately facing the convention center that is city owned and not spoken for.  The area is also still significantly separated from the pedestrian core areas by blocks of parking and Acosta Bridge ramps.  Its one thing to want a convention center hotel concept and movie cinemas, but another to actually land them.

In the event they are landed, then the issue revolves around coming up with an urban layout that encourages pedestrian traffic from all four sides, which is really critical for the Prime Osborn to overcome it's isolation issue.  Hopefully, everything works out for the best with these guys, but its still premature to claim the Prime Osborn's location is not an issue.

That would make a nice little warehouse loft syle district.  However, the JEDC may have plans that involve taking out all of those buildings.

What about expanding the convention center onto the other block and build up, instead of out. It can look like one big building by linking them starting a couple of floors above the street. Kind of like the Prudential building. I would be cool to be able to "drive-thru" the convention center.

I would LOVE to be proven wrong, but I sincerely doubt I will be.

I remember back when Delaney was Mayor, there was a proposal to build a Movie Theater complex as part of a larger project on Philip Randolph.  It was just North of the ramp to the Matthews Bridge and the Arena/Fairgrounds area.  It made the paper and the TV, and then was never heard of again.

This location at least makes a LITTLE more sense, but seeing is believing.

Some bank is going to have to pony up some SERIOUS money for this project.  I'll believe it when I am eating popcorn next to FSUjax.

The skepticism is not without merit.  However, if this does happen it most definitely could be the shot in the arm to bring Lavilla and Brooklyn together and add much needed entertainment to that area.  I think everyone agrees it sounds really good.

you can forget anything close to renovating any of the old buildings along Park into lofts- Jedc has it's own plans and no one else's matters.  The only thing that will stop them from strong arming all of us out of our legally paid for land is if the Brooklyn businesses can get the media to listen and blow the top off of this "good ole boy" network of taking the property just because we can.  They get an ego trip out of it and it stinks for all of us in the neighborhood except Miles of course.

brooklyn-ite, is there anything Brooklyn residents can do to help save what little is left of the community?  As for the Brooklyn businesses, feel free to use this site to bring light on some of the things the public may not know about.

Vic...think it is safe to say you were not proven wrong on this one.  :)
