Tried the Deanston last nite.  Good, but I prefer blended scotch.

Dog - I'd be happy to make you a Sazerac if you'll forgive me for using a nice Absinthe wash in place of Herbsaint...I tried to get some, but UPS destroyed the bottle...see what brown can do for you?!

urban - As a veteran scotch drinker, I totally understand the appeal of a good blend... it's like a great orchestra vs. a solo musician... at the same time, I'll take Yo Yo Ma over the Cleveland Municipal Philharmonic...LOL (nothing against Cleveland, people...take it easy....)

You do know the Cleveland Orchestra is arguably the best orchestra in the world, yeah?  ;D That's not the Cleveland Municipal though, so your joke still works, but the way you included your disclaimer I wasn't sure if you were aware...

sorry, just a brief aside.

I went Saturday evening for the first time & met an old friend that I hadn't seen for 20+ years - it was a perfect setting.

Everybody, Jason now has some Herbsaint for making Sazeracs!  It has a much more complex floral flavor than straight Absinthe and Jason has some killer-smooth rye whiskey for the base.  Try one while it lasts!
When all else fails hug the dog.

Walker...thank you! Ever since UPS broke my bottle of H'saint (what can brown do for me??) I'd been gun-shy about having anything else shipped to me surreptitiously.

If you're a purist, I'll even make your sazerac with cognac....upon request only.

Finally got to Dos Gatos last week.Great spot and so close to the other venus. Its a start.

I stopped in Friday for a couple drinks. I had the scofflaw last time which was pretty good so I told the bartender to surprise me... she came back with a Orange Jalapeno Martini... I thought this is the last time I go with the surprise drink... then I tasted it... unbelievably good!

And though I long to embrace, I will not replace my priorities: humour, opinion, a sense of compassion, creativity and a distaste for fashion.

Shwaz

It was pretty mild... next time I'll request muy caliente which is listed on the menu as an option.

The gin julip is the best drink I've ever had. That's not saying much, but it's fantastic. The $8 price and wait -- every step is done at time of order -- are well worth it.

I went in for the first time this weekend to see my friend Seka (who is now serving there). I was really surprised! The place such a great atmosphere.  I appreciated the smoke-free environment (even though I'm a smoker myself.)

The drinks were unique and really great. The El Verano was almost *too refreshing* it was so good. The Mexicali was tasty with a little bit of a spicy kick that was absolutely enjoyable!

The girl they had spinning music (I can't remember her name but I've seen her at several places) spun a nice mix of stuff. Saw some people I didn't expect to see. All in all a great time!

Checked this place out last night after the Art Walk and had a great time.  Pretty good swing band playing, good crowd, and great drinks.  I'll definitely be back!!!

I finally made it down to Dos Gatos. My roomate isn't much of a drinker to my great misfortune, so I had to wait until I could find a date who was convinced going downtown at night wouldn't result in her rape and/or murder.
I had that Orange Jalepeno Margarita and it took some getting used to, but once it was about half done I started not to feel the burn anymore and really enjoyed it.
The ambiance was great. I am definately glad this place is walking distance from my place. I especially like that I nursed my drink for about an hour and not once was hassled about having another. Can't wait to go back.

I have the same experience when talking to people about downtown.  They really think that downtown is where murders and rapes happen on a daily basis.  If this was even remotely true, wouldn't it be on the news?  I think that the local media is partially to blame because of their blatant failure to properly identify where crimes are happening.  They use the unfortunate catch-all 'NORTHSIDE' to identify places as varied as North Riverside, Springfield, downtown, Eastside, etc.  Shame!
