Simple, government needs to protect us from foreign and domestic enemies. We cannot individually protect ourselves from the dangers that terrorists pose to our country.

Same goes for protecting us from environmental dangers. Those responsibilities are pooled in government oversight.

Probably no-one should waste their time, as 95% of incumbents get re-elected. Come to think of it, we might as well abolish elections altogether, except for situations where openings exist due to term limits. Would save us a lot of money,..........which we could invest in rail or other public transit.
