Simple question, and Gate isn't the main answer.

I like Gate's cheaper gas, sometimes, but I want a dang Slurpee!

It looks like they are absent from the entire southeast, except for Florida south of Daytona.

I've noticed that before. They're missing a gold mine.

last time they were here "little champ" ate their  breakfast, then invited their mother out for a nice  seafood dinner and never called them again.  ;)   seriously 7-11 was here back in the 70's but local competiton put them out of business

Wow! I haven't heard "lil Champ" in years. Here's another blast from the past: "Huntley Jiffy."

I've always thought the absence of 7-11 was weird too, they're a big national brand. They also have Slurpee, which is cool because they come out with some insane flavors. I remember about 10 years ago they came out with one that was Juicy Fruit (like the gum), I almost drove to Ormond Beach to try it.

They even have Crystal Light Slurpees, which is kinda cool, and tasty.

I'm sorry, but an ICEE or Slush Puppie just ain't going to do.

Connotations aside, I love the Big Gulp and the Big Bite. Cheap lunch and decent food. Having grown up in NY, they are a staple and Gate just isn't the same.

I have wished for years that we had 7-11s, Quik Cheks or WaWas.

I miss slurpees.  Being able to grab a fresh buttered roll & the paper.
And being able to get fresh-made subs with quality deli meats.

Even before Huntley Jiffy, those buildings were Handy-Way.  I think just about all of them are Kangaroo now.  I do remember a 7-11 at College Drive & Peoria in Orange Park well into the '90s.

When I grew up here in the 60's, 7-11 was widespread in this area including one where San Jose merges into Hendricks at Miramar.  There was a martial arts place there but don't know if it still is that.

7-11 was a part of Southland Corporation.  Not sure, but I think they went through a bankruptcy along the way too.
Hey!  Whatever happened to just plain ol' COMMON SENSE!!

Now 7-11 is it's own corporation with a big azz skyscraper off the Stemmons Freeway in Dallas.

Reednavy, below is a history from their web site.  Apparently, they just changed the name to 7-11 from Southland:

Quote

We Began As An Original. We Remain An Original At The Top Of The Convenience Industry.

Our company invented the concept of convenience retailing. But we didn’t stop there. 7-Eleven has captured the world with a proven willingness and ability to innovate. 7-Eleven, Inc. is the world’s largest convenience retail chain. Based in Dallas, Texas, the company operates, franchises and licenses more than 6,850 stores in the U.S. and Canada. Of the approximately 5,800 stores the company operates and franchises in the United States, some 4,400 are franchised. Internationally, 7-Eleven licensees and affiliates operate close to 29,600 7-Eleven and other convenience stores in countries including Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, South Korea, China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Mexico, Singapore, Australia, Philippines, Norway, Sweden and Denmark.

What has remained a constant is no matter which 7-Eleven® customers shop in â€" from Jersey to Japan â€" they expect to find fresh products and handy services in a clean, safe, friendly environment.

History Lesson

It all started back in 1927 at the Southland Ice Company in Dallas, Texas, when an enterprising employee had the idea to offer milk, bread and eggs on Sundays and evenings when grocery stores were closed. 1946 marked a name change from Tote’m to 7-Eleven, reflecting the stores’ new extended hours â€" 7 in the morning until 11 in the evening, all week long. (Note: The Company’s corporate name was also changed to 7-Eleven in 1999. It had been The Southland Corporation.)

The entrepreneurial spirit of that original employee has guided 7-Eleven to this day. We were the first company in America to offer fresh-brewed to-go coffee. More than six million of our Slurpee® beverages have been sipped since 1966. We ran the first convenience store chain television commercials. We were the first retailer with its own prepaid wireless program. And, to continuously stay ahead of the curve, we introduce more than 2,500 new products each year.

7-Eleven launched the semi-frozen, carbonated drink revolution in 1965 when it created an Icee drink, later trademarked Slurpee®. Slurpee drinks are served fountain-style at a frosty 28 degrees. Popular flavors include: Coca-Cola, Fanta Wild Cherry, Pina Colada, Crystal Light Raspberry Ice and Mountain Dew. For Slurpee fun, go to www.slurpee.com  and join Slurpee Nation.
