What's Disney willing to do for high-speed rail?

quick quiz....what's the largest employer in Central Florida?...and why wouldn't you want a mass transit system (regardless of type) to serve that employer?

If they are putting a rail line down I-4, Disney should have a stop, no questions asked.  However, it would be nice if something like the proposed Lake Nona cluster could be developed around that station, considering the Disney station will actually be in the middle of woods.

Even quicker quiz, what's among the lowest paying employers in Central Florida? ...and why wouldn't you want a mass transit system (regardless of type) that those employees could afford? The largest employment for males and females in the Orlando area is in the hospitality industry, which is around 13% of the male workforce, and close to 20% of the females. ...and people complain about Jacksonville!

Yeah......already know about Disney and their employment. I thought the days of "Slave Wages" was over till I checked into working for them! No way in hades.........for some reason the term "Monopoly" comes to mind. Unless HSR is in the Mouses favor and they get big time benefit for it, I don't see them doing anything of the sort! As has been pointed out "Magical Express" is a selling point and what comes to Mouseville ....stays in Mouseville, especially what is in ones wallet/purse which is the whole point of the Magic Kingdom, your money magically disappears. Nope unless it is to their advantage, Mouseville will not help either with funding or with property.

Sure the hospitality industry is low wage and should be served by transit...I'm all in favor of commuter rail for the Orlando region as well as the LRT system they voted down 10 years ago.

btw, that LRT system was planned to go down I-Drive (serving that industry)....which is why many argued extensively that the HSR route should follow I-4 to the Beachline with a stop at the I-Drive / Convention Center area....in the end, that route, which Disney didn't want, was the one chosen.

Maybe that throws a dart in the the theory that this train is being built for "the mouse"?

tufsu1 ........I have not seen anything hard copy wise that tells me much of anything! Too much smoke and mirrors, rookies, he said she said and different stories from different sources. I am waiting till I can put my hands on something that is in print! From what I've seen right now Mouseville is not in the mix, but would almost bet money that will change before they really start doing something.........as in digging dirt!

Ock........I can understand your frustration big fella! It would be greatly helpfull if all of the powers that be could sit down and come up with ONE GAME PLAN........rather than the splinter effort  that appears to be taking place. I think about the 2.5 Billion Dollars that will be going down the tubes and think "Gee...... Rube Goldburg would be proud"!
