It is amazing how the city allows outright neglect of historic properties.  heaven forbid that I don't mow my yard for a few weeks b/c I will quickly receive a letter from the code department, but these douchebags can allow a roof to collapse on a historically significant property with no repercussions whatsoever.  In fact, it works out pretty well for them in that it allows them to demolish the rest of the structure without much of a fight.

As a native of jacksonville it disgusts me that our "leadership" has allowed this city to be so ass backwards in so many ways.  Its no wonder that so many of us get the hell out of dodge and never come back.  But when you have a mayor with thousands of acres to develop, what do we expect?  Let's all go shopping at Walmart or the "town center' and everything will be alright!

Jaxson, sorry, I did not mean to be so cold, but the horse known as PS4 is dead, just the fire station is dead on Riverside too, but I did see a police cruiser parked there yesterday in back, free parking for the City still.

Do your business, make a difference or get off to the next crusade. If more people wanted PS4 or the Riverside FS saved, don't you think it would have already happened? Let's get real here.

Jaxson.... appreciate your sentiment....but you are trying to reason with a Jackass.... M-train takes the cake for being the most negative person on this forum.. I ll be happy to hand him the trophy too.

You know what M?  you may be right... PS#4 may fall in on itself.  And it just may not.  What would you care one way or the other?  Your words do not hurt me so attack away.. Youre a F*$(@*g  idiot!

Gee thanks for dropping the F-bomb, it only took 3 posts for you to lose your cool. Nice and mature!

you're welcome.  All of your postings are equally (or less) mature  :)

Stephen - If Wayne thought PS4 was as important as RAM, where is the leadership from RAP to save the crumbling structure? PS4 is the red and purple haired step child of Riverside, but no one from it, not even Corrigan has said MUCH if ANYTHING about it.

Glad you brought up Wood, cause he is the only one who could get any traction for the building, if he can't put a fork in it.

Well you see, Stephen THAT WAS DIFFERENT!   That was something that probably mattered to him.

But I will admit...it is not mature to name call.  I will refrain.  But I will never give up on PS#4 or any of the other historic buildings I feel should remain.  M-train chooses to remain part of the problem.. I choose to be part of the solution.... M is entitled to his opinion, and I will stick with mine, personally I could give a damn if he likes PS #4 or not , or if he likes me or not.. really neither matters.   :)

Regrettably probably the only thing that has kept the school in place was that it was placed in historic status.

For one thing M-Train , PS #4 is in BROOKLYN not Riverside or Avondale ... RAP has little jurisdiction over it.  Probably short of HPC and those of the community who, unlike you, would see it saved, it does not get the support that Riverside and Avondale does.  That is for one.   The only idea for the School has been primarily residential.  I personally do not believe it will ever work there.  But something will eventually. I seriously doubt someone would have just purchased a named historic landmark and had to , right off the top go through HPC /City Council and apply to tear it down , only for that to be denied.  I think the School has a chance.  This probably urks you to no end but that is how I see it.

Timken - RAM placed their show under on the boundary of Brooklyn and Riverside, so go with it, use Wood for your crusade. I know RAP has no jurisdiction over it, which is why nothing has been done. Why not try and have it rezoned into Riverside? I don't see Brooklyn coming to life anytime soon, although those darn signs at Forest and Riverside paint a different picture.

I know that places are being saved, to my dismay, in Riverside (Christmas Cottage, 5-Points theatre, stockton shops), so why stay in Brooklyn where nobody has any love for you? In Brooklyn, you might as well be in Mandarin, no one seems to care.

DARE I ask why this dismays you to see historic buildings saved?  PS#4 is not nearly as structually unsound as you would seem to think.. The friggin building is Steel ,Concrete and at least 20 inch thick brick walls.. What needs refurbishing are the wooden elements/windows/electrical/plumbing as in any old building. The wooden elements may be gone in 20 years but I do not believe that brick or concrete is going anywhere without assistance.   Thanks for the tip .  You may well be right that the building needs to be rezoned into Riverside.   Most think it is an attractive building still.  I regret that you do not see it this way.
