Quote2009 Lincoln Day Celebration
An Evening with Karl Rove

Lincoln is spinning in his grave.

copperfiend,

Why?  The only person in history with less respect for the Constitution than Rove & Co was Lincoln.

Florida wouldn't be under the Constitution, but for Lincoln. It would be in a third world banana republic called the CSA.  Floridians would probably be swimming to Cuba, instead of the other way around.

Speaking of Rove ...

"This is like getting interview lessons from Sarah Palin."

-- Obama campaign manager David Plouffe, quoted by Politico, to Karl Rove who said that President Obama "is failing to fulfill his bipartisan promise in Congress."
"The problem with quotes on the internet is you can never be certain they're authentic." - Abraham Lincoln

"A 3rd world banana republic"?  Hardly.  Had the CSA survived, it would have become a major trading partner with England.  England's banning of slavery would have put economic (not political) pressure on the CSA to reform/end slavery.  So slavery would have still ended, likely in a more organized and beneficial fashion, circumventing viciousness like Jim Crow laws.  Also, the South's natural beauty and draw (especially in Florida) would still have resulted in increased tourist traffic & economic development, only with a better (that is, more local) tax scheme.

But that's all fantasy.  Now we've got the Union, indivisible and perfect.  All hail the Union.
