I knew Jax was in danger of losing the Football Tournament, but I wasn't aware that the Baseball tournament was already gone.  Is it in Jax for 2009? It will be in Boston in 2010. 2011-2013 is up for bid now.  Is Jax bidding on it?

2009 is in Durham.

Yes, pretty sure Jax is among the bids seeking the tourney after 2010 in Boston. Since the football championship has also been discussed, I'll throw in the ACC basketball tourney as well. Although the sites for that one have been locked up through 2012.

You know ProMax after actually doing some research on the ACC teams and locations. The Best place for the Football game is Charlotte, and the Best for the Baseball Tournament is Washington DC. ACC should go for Major venues...MLB. NFL, when it comes to its Championship series. If the ACC wants fans in Jax they need Georgia Tech & Florida State to play each other ever year in Jax. That or a FSU - Miami game annual game. If Jacksonville follows behind Boston or Washington, Id be proud of that. If it followed greenville...It would suck!

ACC baseball in a Major League venue? They could barely fill a third of the park.

Jacksonville loses out in bid for ACC baseball tournament

http://jacksonville.com/sports/college/2009-05-13/story/jacksonville_loses_out_in_bid_for_acc_baseball_tournament

QuoteThe Atlantic Coast Conference Wednesday voted to award the league's baseball tournament to Myrtle Beach, S.C., from 2011-2013, beating out a bid from Jacksonville to return the event to The Baseball Grounds after a three-year run that ended last year.

Also under consideration for the game were Greensboro, N.C., Greenville, N.C., and Winston-Salem, N.C. The vote came during the final session of the ACC spring meeting at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel.

Davis Whitfield, the ACC associate commissioner for championships, said all bids were nearly equal in financial scope, and it came down to the fact that Myrtle Beach was more centrally located to most of the league's schools.

"There wasn't a hair's difference in most of the bids," he said. "Myrtle Beach is more within our footprint, and economics did have something to do with it."

The ACC's decision to move the tourney to Fenway Park backfired and Jacksonville payed dearly.

I didn't kinow Myrtle Beach was bidding on this.  BTW, it was Greenville, SC not NC that bid.

QuoteThe ACC's decision to move the tourney to Fenway Park backfired and Jacksonville payed dearly.

It was a done deal, go to Fenway, of course it was signed during a growing economy. The people who run the ACC aren't exactly economics majors, they went with the path of least resistance. BC being in the ACC would have meant a shot at using Fenway, but who thinks Miami and its fans would have even travelled there? Airfare would have killed their expense budget!

The reason the ACC saved face and went to Durham was because the budget of money that the schools pay into the ACC for travel is getting smaller, due to the economy. For example each year in football, each school puts in 335,000 or 30% of the gate receipts for travel expenses, during and bowl games, for football. (Basketball and baseball and other sports all have different amounts due to revenue).

So while Durham looked like a dump compared to our baseball grounds, it made sense since Duke, UNC, Wake Forest and NCSU were close to it and other schools, except Miami and BC were within a decent bus ride, if needed.

The fact that Jax lost out on the bid for 2011-2013 probably did have to do with money and travel expenses. And the fact that the ACC is trying to expand their brand and go to Myrtle Beach, which is a haven for USC and Georgia fans. I do not agree with it, I think we brought in more revenue for the ACC, but you gotta remember, the ACC just has its worst showing for the ACCCG in football in Tampa, only 27,000 fans attended. Worse than any game in Jax.

They are not travel friendly these days!!!!!
