Ghost signs, the remains of hand painted signs common before the Great Depression, can be found all over Jacksonville's historic urban core. Originally created with lead-based paint that easily bonded to masonry surfaces, many of these advertisements have survived the test of time. Today, they provide a glimpse into the city's forgotten past.

Enjoyed the article.  BTW, there is or used to be a 'ghost sign' on a tall brick wall (which actually could have been the back of the drive-in movie screen) out at Jax Beach.  I seem to remember you could read "drive in" and the Coca Cola writing on it.

I have a picture of the Coke sign out at the beach, but I am clueless how to post it here. My father worked for the Coke Company back in the 50's painting signs, I've always been told it was his.

Nice find! At one point that was a warehouse for Cohen Brothers.
