Exciting new empty lot!

Does anyone else find this hilariously embarrassing?

The City is advertising the former courthouse lot as – get this – "an event lawn with a view". The article comically goes on to admit that no one has reached out to the City with interest to schedule an event there. This is a prime example of the City's flawed thinking that empty grass space will magically attract life downtown.

It is embarrassing that this is what $8 million in public money gets you during good economic times. It feels like we're living in a real life Springfield.

They are on drugs for sure; what the heck are they thinking? Like I said in a previous thread...next time I visit Jax, I will have my lawn chairs ready I guess; don't have to pay anything so, I'll bring my barbque grill, food, drinks, numerous lawn chairs, and maybe others will see me doing my thing and thousands will join me; what a bunch of idiots that are truly not earning their pay/salary in whatever shape or form!

I'll bet downtown Baldwin or Mayo is more exciting than downtown Jax; hear that Lenny Curry? Oh yeah, that's right, you don't even care. I'll bet I could get more business in this city that works for the people, including retail and commercial projects, than you non earning paycheck people now in city hall. Wow. Wow. Wow. WOW!

In all seriousness, it would actually be a pretty good spot for a Landing demolition watch party.

MusicMan

Nice spot for an Ultimate Frisbee game!

Isn't the Hyatt blocking the view?

One should expect as many people to flock to this lawn as they did when the Shipyards got new sod a decade ago. No restrooms, no playground, no grills, no shelter, no amenities, adds up to no life.

No thanks.  I'll wait for the soon to be newest empty lot at the site of the former Jacksonville Landing.  That's where I will decide to hold my event.

Dammit Charles.

Had to go and ruin the joke with logistics, didn't you?

From Nate Monroe on this:  "I honestly thought this was a satirical editorial. Until I read it."

I can't help but wonder if the Daily Record would have run this article with this headline using the word "lawn" instead of. "lot,", "parcel," "block,", "property," "site," "riverfront," or so many other nouns if not for Lake's article on "Lenny's Lawn."   Seems like a tip of the hat. 8)

I haven't been downtown in awhile, I thought maybe Lenny had blown it up since I was last there?

The embarrassing part is they want to charge people to use it.

That's true. They should be paying people to come down there.
