Phở King Noodles?

Has anyone tried Phở King ( ;) )? There's one that just opened at that new little strip mall on Beach (next to Cattleman's BBQ) and we stopped and got a menu. It all looks quite good and the prices are excellent too (I think the highest thing on the menu is $7). I tried googling them and found a location that's closer to the beach but I'm not sure if they're a national chain or not. I've never had Vietnamese food before, but this place looks like it has all the standards, lots of pho, rolls, soups and noodle dishes, they even do the banh mi sandwiches.

If it's not that good, can anyone suggest a good place for the Vietnamese beginner?

If nothing else, they've got the funniest business name in town.

It is a funny name if you say Pho the right way (pretty much fuh)

And you seem pretty knowledgeable of the food for someone who's never had it before.

I think it's all good. You can't go wrong with the standard pho with rare beef and tripe, etc. There's spring rolls and summer rolls, those pork sandwiches you mentioned. It's all delicious.

And of course vietnamese iced coffee. Try that!

Sorry, I don't live in Jax and can't recommend any other places.

I have now been there twice and I have not been disappointed either time.  It has been a couple months since I went in so I honestly do not specifically remember what I got, other than the spring rolls, which I thought were quite good.  I think it is a welcome addition to the local dining scene, as I cannot recall another Viet restaurant ever being around.  It is pleasantly decorated inside.  Also, both times I have been there were several other patrons who appeared to be Vietnamese.  I always think that is a good sign of the authenticity of an ethnic place.  Typically if the only people who patronize a place are suburban white folks, you are getting a dumbed down version of the real thing.  No worries here, its the real deal.

Ah cool, thanks for the info. I try to research stuff before I try it and I've just been feeling a lot more adventurous lately (~15 years ago I had a really bad experience with indian food in DC, got the nerve to try it again a couple of months back and now I can't get enough), Vietnamese has been on my food to-try list for a long time.

I know there are a few other places in town but I think they're probably a bit more hardcore than PK and if I like it there, I'll try somewhere like Saigon over on Cassat ( I think it's one of the oldest in town but I'll admit that it looks a bit intimidating).

Oh and they've just put up their website too: http://www.pknoodles.com/

Saigon has always been good even though, yes, it looks a bit intimidating. Cant wait to check out Pho King.

Pho King is good(for the longest time we only had Pho Cali here, which was always closed on Wednesdays which just happened to be the only time I craved pho)... but I really have to give a big endorsement to Bowl of Pho off Baymeadows in the Publix shopping Center across from the old mall(which suddenly reminds me of the old Legal Tender steakhouse).

I agree, Bowl of Pho is a good time.  I've never been to Pho King, so I'll definitely give them a try the next time i'm in the area.

I like the pho at Pho King better but Bowl of Pho has that amazing tomato-based soup, so we frequent both of them.
