So tonight the fiancee is taking me to Ruth's Chris Steak House. I've never been but have heard good things. Anyone else been and what did you think/ advice on what to try?

I've only been to few upscale steak restaurants but Ruth's Chris is the best.  I should get out more.

Ruths Chris is fine and they do have a great steak (I prefer mine without the butter on top), but I think there are some better locally owned restaurants where you can get a great steak and a bunch of other fine dining items. Matthews, in particular, comes to mind.

The Ribeye with butter and salt and pepper is amazing at Ruth's Chris.  Definitely one of the best I've had.

Ruth and Chris Steakhouse is overpriced in my opinion.  Have ate at several across the country, been fairly hit and miss.  The one in DC was awful, the one here in jax pretty good.  Personally I'd hit some of the local spots myself.   Love the ribeye at cross creek

I've been to the downtown location maybe five or six times, and except for the last time, it has always been exceptional. The service is great, it's clean, the view is one of the best in Jacksonville, and the food is consistently awesome. We went about three months ago though for the first time in awhile and, maybe it was an off night, but it wasn't up to the normal standard. We had to send both of our dinners back (my wife's was undercooked by a good degree, and they didn't put the gorgonzola crust on my filet that I had ordered) and the service was surprisingly spotty.

As an aside, one of the funniest things I have ever seen happened at that Ruth's Chris downtown. About three years ago, there was a guy going around Northeast Florida pretending to be Ringo from the Beatles. Anyone remember this? Anyway, he went into that Ruth Chris and the snooty management there was just FAWNING all over this guy, thinking he was the real deal. They offered him free meal and drink, had him autograph all this plates and pose for pictures, and were just generally acting in an embarrassing fashion. Would have loved to have seen their faces when they found out in the paper a few days later that they had been hosed.

How's the Ponte Vedra Ruth's Chris?

Love that story, reminds me of the scene from Ferris Buellers Day off....The Sausage KING of Chicago.

I once had some shmuck get out of a limo at The Ritz in Jax Beach and introduce himself to me as Ron Jeremy.  I laughed in his face.

Ya coulda asked for proof... ;)
In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

Actually, I did!  He said "my publicist won't let me".  Then I laughed in his face.

Ruth's Chris is goooood stuff. If you poke around online, they have been running some specials lately, like two 3 course meals for $89, and things like that. Great place, and love the view.
