Southbank Riverwalk isn"t that bad

Was there for first time yesterday - to see what kind of a sunset view it has. Those new towers block much of it, but if you walk all the way down in front of the School Dept building, next to the big vacant JEA lot, you can see a fabulous view of the city, and a nice piece of the sunset. Would be nice if you could rent little paddle boats there also (I know, I know...insurance...)

Wyndam owns a bunch of little storefronts right on that boardwalk - which would be great little spots for some retail and entertainment. ALSO, there is a vacant grass lot - about the size of half a football field - which would be a terrific area for a little stage for performances (where the current fireplace grill is).
I talked to several people about the JEA lot, asking them what they think Jacksonville needs there. Both of them said without much hesitation - an attraction. Something fun to do that attracts people.

Anyways, that boardwalk side has A LOT of potential and isn't that bad already.

Well, much like the Landing, when the RiverWalk was first opened I remember it being packed with people pretty much all the time. But as the City moves on to new projects it tends to forget to keep up the ones it already has.  How many vacant spaces are there along the SouthBank Riverwalk now? Our attraction is the River, right, isnt that what they keep telling us? Then take care of it!

Here's what happened with that - a company called The Related Group was going to totally redevelop that area, and basically had all of the tenants vacate - then the market went south and they said nevermind.

Kind of like when we knock down a building to build another one, then decide not to build the new one.
