Even with the plan to double Downtown residents, the reality of such a feat is a long time coming.

"It's not likely to happen overnight," Saylor said. "It will happen over a period of years. It will probably be a 5- to 8-year window to double the people living in Downtown and for that shift in demographics to have any tangible impact on traffic."

Part of the issue the Downtown Investment Authority has with attracting residents the area — where major companies like DeutscheBank, Everbank and Florida Blue have office buildings — is a chicken and egg dilemma.

"It's hard to decide if you first need housing or all the things that support housing," Saylor said. "In reality, they have to come up together.

That's a slow process."

He said that more people would live Downtown if there was a convenient place to shop or things to do. "The pioneers who moved Downtown 10 years ago finally have some things to do at night," he said.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you've only been saying it if by chicken you mean - things to do downtown.  And by egg, you mean - things to do downtown. 

I'm pretty sure you've been adamant about housing being pointless with nothing there for the residents.  That's not a chicken and egg thing (either/or), that's horse before the cart thing (a to b).  Might want to fine tune the analogies a little bit.

No one would claim that South Beach isn't vibrant. Still doesn't keep I-95 from clogging up.

OK....your wrong and I am glad you can admit it! Chicken and Egg refers to residents downtown, and the infrastructure to support 10,000 residents downtown. 5,000 seems a wee bit optimistic, but hey, its not many, period. No matter how many companies DIA bribes to move downtown, families and millennials are NOT drinking the Kool-aid. Chicken and Egg is part of the article, no need to add horse and cart, since it would have nothing to do with the article......

This has NOTHING to do with things to do downtown.....it has everything to do with providing residents the basic services, groceries, dry cleaning, shopping, more restaurants. So you can add all the residences you want, but if the people don't have the basics and prices are equal to what they have in the burbs.....why move?
