That means that UNF is officially the number 1 seed in the Atlantic Sun tournament. Florida Gulf Coast can't catch UNF regardless of what happens tonight against Stetson, although it would still be nice to win tonight, since it is the Homecoming game.

I just checked the NCAA brackets. The Atlantic Sun tourney winner has a play in game. The winner of the playin game plays the Midwest #1 seed which is currently Kentucky.

No way, how can the NCAA make a conference winner play a play in game for the 16th seed? Conference champs from automatic bid conferences should not have to play in. Oh well, let's hope UNF wins the A-Sun first.

First off....the 16 seeds are always champions from a conference.  So ever since the play-in game(s) was added, champs have had to play in it.

Second....the bracket hasnt been set yet...that will be two weeks from now....so it is only a projection at this point that the A-Sun champ would have a play-in game.

BTW. I was looking at the "Bracketology" site on ESPN.com.  It keeps a running total of projected picks and is not official.

The Atlantic Sun tourney champ gets the automatic selection, not the regular season champion. The regular season champ simply gets the #1 seed in the tourney which means UNF will host all of their tournament opponenets as long as they keep winning.

I checked the RPI's of the Atlantic Sun teams as of last week. UNF is 166, FGCU is 116. FGCU got a higher RPI because they beat 2 teams higher than them where as UNF has beaten only one (Purdue).

So UNF has to win the A-Sun Tourney to get the auto selection. And if they do they are projected to be in the play in game against Sacremento State in the Midwest Region. It is normal for the play in game to have to play the #1 seed in their region.

If A-Sun teams had RPI's higher than 64 than they would have a better chance of avoiding the playin game completely. This is one reason Belmont and Mercer left the A-Sun.
